Was the initial purchase made on a debit/credit card? If it was contact your credit/debit card company and tell them what happened and they should take care of it.

I dugg the story :)

On your blog it says that you were contacted by Apple... what did they say?

I also call shenanigans on this ruining his college education. I also call shenanigans on him having a legit copy of CS3 before his parents gave him the one he is returning. I'm just throwing this out there, but maybe he stole CS3, in which case he broke even, losing the money given to him for returning it...

fanboy indeed because this problem isnt really about whether or not this person is trying to scam Apple or not, IMO, the problem I see is that Apple's security of their gift cards are terrible. That if any one of us were given store credit we could be in the same shoes.

Even if you are a fanboy, wouldnt you be terribly pissed if Apple would do NOTHING about your $2000 bucks that dissappeared?

Well if he is a scammer, which honestly is doubtful, but still possible, then apple didn't screw him over, he is just asking for $2000 free.

But yeah, the more likely scenario is that the security in an apple retail store is lacking. This is probably the result of one or two employees, not the company itself.

he said that the back of the gift card security code was still covered. obviously it is the company itself that has some security issues.

also in his blog I think he said that the security cameras caught the card in use was definitely not him and has admitted of a fraudulent charge, yet they arent giving credit. I think it is a company problem...

hello all

thank you again for all the help, advice, and kind words...and criticism as well. I made clarifications when they needed to be made, and i appreciate you all on here for keeping the whole thing civilized and without the unnecessary profanity, etc over on the other sites.

Apple is rectifying the situation as we speak.

I am still filing police reports, because i feel it is necessary to.

And yes.. i hope to pursue making sure apple is looking at their gift card systems and policies.

From my estimation, something clicked over at apple and they got the ball rolling further on my case, (despite them saying it was closed)

and on a side note...i never meant any of this to be bashing apple. I love apple and their products. I have had many apple products over the years.

Although i did not appreciate those bashing me in a way, and calling me "whiny," (which i never was doing in any way) i appreciate the community here most definitely!

thank you all!

If they are fixing it then i don't think its worth a police report unless apple wants you to put one in related to whoever did the steeling but i don't know.

I'm glad you found us helpful, even if a few of us ^^^ thought that you were a whiner. File the police report, even if Apple does give you your money back quickly. It's always good to have a paper trail in certain things. I hope you enjoy your purchase, since it seems you're finally getting what was truly yours to begin with:rolleyes:

I am guessing this has happened more then once lately {the gift card theft} and Apple have spotted a bit of trend while investigating.

Glad you got some closure on this, finally.

Just for the record, i don't think suggesting that this person contact a tv station consumer action desk was throwing Apple under the bus. Sometimes it just takes a little more than just the consumer complaining to break through the bureaucracy and get it seen by someone who can do something. Usually these news stations are good at giving the company a chance to rectify the situation before it becomes a story that they air after many attempts to get something done. And, if it succeeds in uncovering a problem and Apple quickly fixes it, then it actually becomes a good news story, if they end up airing it.

Well he seems legit. And I'm glad he got his money back. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a full legal copy of CS3, but few of us here are totally innocent of anything like that.

But on the other hand, he's been banned from MR. And now he's back under a different identity, which is against the MR rules. Still, the mods seem to be treading lightly here, which I agree with.

hi all

just want u all to be sure i am certainly not a scammer. and also, my intention with everything that happened was NOT to bash apple to shreds, or to hate on apple, but to merely create attention to the little guy that was getting screwed. I love apple, and their products (obviously) and through all of this, I hope to be an apple customer for years to come.

As far as the CS3 i DO have, it was put on my computer so i could do work for my internship over spring break and during these summer months. From what I understand, because it was under a business license, I should have no problem as far as the legality of it being on my computer goes.

Thanks all again for the support..and lets close up this thread now that things have been officially taken care of.

so you arent even going to tell us what apple did to rectify the problem?

They sent me the mac i needed/wanted (what i was using the gift card for anyways.) It will be on my doorstep monday!
