Doesn't upset me, I'm loving watching movies on my 2018 12.9 iPad. Will always look "better" on a smaller screen with a similar PPI as a bigger screen.

So true. Our LG OLED TV gets used 2 hours a week on a Thursday for late film night and maybe for 20 minutes a night for part of a film or vlog over late dinner.
Whereas the MacBook...

Just noticed 2001 is back on UK iTunes in 4K and Dolby Vision.

Good spot, it is indeed back in 4K/DV Although the other Kubrick films which are part of a box set are still in HD only. Fingers crossed that they return too.

So strange you iTunes folks put up with this. The 4k UHD rip sitting on my NAS never suddenly changes to HD or SD.

You'll be crying when your entire NAS fails in 2 or 3 years time!
Do you really think a guy that gets a big 8-bay NAS like myself doesn't have a good system of backups?

When my current NAS fails, as it is likely to because it's a model that suffers from the infamous Intel Atom C2538 CPU fault, I will gleefully research the latest and greatest NAS to upgrade to. Most likely, I'd be able to just slide my old drives right in without issue. Or, if it comes down to it, I can restore from backup.

Either way, from reading these forums, it seems far more likely that Apple/studios pull out the rug out from under digital purchasers than my NAS is to fail.

But why go to all of the bother, time and expense just to watch a movie? Surely, if you prefer to watch a film on your TV then just buy a really high quality UHD BluRay player like a Pioneer or Panasonic?
For me, I prefer to watch a favourite film whilst travelling on my iPhone X or MacBook :) I only have 10 or less favourite films so it's super easy to keep them downloaded on my iPhone and MacBook and then when i'm in my home, I stream then from the iCloud which is a flawless experience :) I'm a less is more kind of guy and everything in my iTunes & Apple Photos - music, film, home videos, clients videos, photos all in one place works beautifully for me :)
