It's Either November 14 or January 15 • Just Bought The HP LP3065 30" Monitor For MP

Tuesday's come, no new Mac Pros....

Three weeks until Tuesday, 13 November.
You're the one who convinced me Apple can't say anything until November 12 anyway. Since that will be Intel's Monday, Wednesday November 14 looks really good to me. :) Monday November 12 is a national holiday - Veteran's Day. So that means Apple won't do their announcement until Wednesday November 14 instead of Tuesday the 13th.

Otherwise - Hello January 15. :(

BTW FYI I just ordered the 30" HP LP3065 monitor from PC Connection for $1239.95 after the $100 HP rebate that expires after next Wednesday - Halloween (the last day) in case any of you forgot. Both FREE shipping and no sales tax. In case you are unfamiliar - it has High Color Gamut + THREE 3 THREE 3 YES 3 Dual Link DVI Inputs on the back of it. This monitor is the lowest priced 30" and yet it includes an $800 integrated 3 port Dual Link DVI switch inside. That's a MIRACLE folks.

dang that HP monitor sounds really tempting. I'm trying to decide between that or two 23/24's for the mac pro i'm going to order (when they get updated). i've got two 17's now and just need more room for photo/video editing.

*praying for Nov 13 release*

Next thing we know, Multi is going to be using one of these.

Of course, he'll probably hold out for the 003. ;)

My 8 Screen Plan

I'm planning on driving 4 screens on the 8 core. I would add a second 24" to the 30" if only two. I already have a 30" dell non-HC model. So I will dedicate that to the 8 core plus hook up the 8 core MP, Quad G5 and the Quad MP to the HP and simply push the input button on the front to flip around amongst all three. Plus I will have 3 ROTATABLE 24" Dell 2407-HC monitors on all three as the second or third screen on the 8-core. Forth on the 8 core will be the 23" ACD HD I got with the Quad MP in August.

That's my screen plan. Two 30", three rotatable 24" Dells, one NON-rotatable 23" ACD HD for a total of 6. Plus I will have a 20" Portrait hanging off my old G4 PB like I do now - until I get the MBP in January when I will add a second 30" HP to that one. So a total of 7 screens plus the MBP 17" HD screen so it's really 8. I love being surrounded by screens. Oh I forgot I will also have the 40" Samsung HDTV hooked up to both Mac Pros. So now I'm confused. :p

Multi, what's your electric bill like?

Your carbon footprint has got to be larger than those of some small 3rd world nations.

I Don't Have An Electric Bill

I don't have an electric bill. Utilities are included in my rent. 30" HP LP3065 uses 118 Watts. Pretty amazingly energy efficient. It's going to be LESS than a dozen total - including the MBP screen.

Nice.

The Feds must have their eyes on you as a possible skunk farm. Imagine the looks on their faces when they burst in and all they see are huge Mac towers and dozens of enormous LCDs.

Trying to follow your logic there... If Intel rolls out Penryn on the 12th, and the the 12th is also a national holiday, why can't Apple make an announcement on the 13th?

The Historical Record Is Apple Does It On Wednesdays After National Holiday Mondays

Well they could. But they never do on a Tuesday after a holiday. They need a day to prepare the release or PR has meetings all day when they get back from a holiday on Tuesday or whatever. So it puts them one more day out. Historically any national holiday Monday puts the announcements to Wednesday without fail. So it appears to be a rule.

I'm really glad I decided to take the plunge with the 4 core Mac Pro earlier this year. It's already paid itself off from writing/video work. I ordered an additional 4GB of RAM Monday morning to take my system to 9GB - I'm hoping this will eliminate page outs in Apple pro applications such as Aperture.

I Need To Order More Ram Too Glen, Thanks For The Reminder

Me too. turns out the MP runs Handbrake more than twice as fast as the Quad G5. And Toast is also a lot faster too. I also need to order more RAM for both Quads. Thanks for reminding me. 2x2GB each for $398 total from Omni. Less than $50 per GB. Amazing.

RAM is dead cheap now. I'll looking to stock it up to 12GB by Christmas. I've currently had:

3GB, 5GB, 9GB (On Weekend).

Mult your planned setup is mind boggling! I am not too sure how spaces is used in Leopard but am guessing with all your screens it could be used to fantastic advantage. Thank you for letting us know about the pc connection monitor. I phoned them but unfortunately they don't ship hp products to Canada. Will wait for Dell to go on sale. Hope Nov 14 is the day for you!:)

8 screens? seems like a bit overkill.

you preparing to launch a rocket to the moon or something? :p last place i saw 8 screens was in like NASA launch control center

More Screens Are Fun

why do you need so many screens? It is hard to efficiently use that much real estate, it promotes eye fatigue.
For fun because I can.

You can never have too many screens nor too much ram. :p

Or be skinny enough.

Apparently Apple used to think that too...they soon changed their minds though... :)

Didn't AppleInsider or some other site state that Apple would have several announcements this week?? I am still naively hoping for a Mac Pro announcement on Friday. What better way to showcase Leopard's speed and power than on a Penryn Mac Pro, with an nVidia 8800GT on board!

Good point - but "showcasing" multi-core capabilities of 10.5 on a "future" Mac Pro is one thing.

Announcing or taking orders for the Penryn/Stoakley MP is something else.

Anyway, I'll stand by my belief that Apple won't want anything to distract the press from 10.5 for a couple of weeks after 10.5 is shipping. Conveniently, Intel has a press event about two weeks later ;)

Dont think new mac pro is coming out this week. The soonest would be in November following Intel's press release.
