True, but that's what happens when you have a top heavy roster and no depth. Witnessed by the fact that the Colts picked up Simeon Rice, who's been released by two teams in the last year..

The Dungy defense really depends on this speed rush. I think that folks here in New England underestimate his worth to "that" system. Actually, this underestimation is similar to the colt fans view of Seymour. Different systems require different players.

Freeney is as important to them as Wilfork is to the Pats. Perhaps this puts it in better perspective. Remember when the Pats didn't have the big fella in the middle, or when he was still learning the position? (he moved back a little in order to allow some space) Well, before he got it down, the Pats were vulnerable as heck. We got gashed. I think that without that speed, (and he brings significant speed/moves/power to the spot) the colts young secondary will now be way more suspect. Dungy will have to generate that rush somehow. So, they may blitz more often. This will work against some oponents - those with younger QBs. But, when they play the good ones, it could get ugly for the Colts.

well i think it's a tough loss for the colts, but again, he's just one player. i remember the other defensive end got a sack or two on Brady in the NE game, so it's not like they don't have players. every team goes through injuries, and the defensive end position isn't a deal breaker (like the QB position is).

but i really like to see the colts lose anyways

trust me,I'm not making injury excuses.I don't wanna hear em from the Colts or the media..Injuries are part of the NFL. Being able to plug in players to pick up the slack is the mark of a good front office/GM. Unless Manning is the one who is injured and out,Colts have no excuses....

See the thing is that teams always have had to double team Freeney, which left only one guy to block Mathis. With Freeney out, you double team Mathis and then the Colts have no pass rush at all.

That's so true. Look at the 2004 Patriots. Didn't they set an NFL record for the most different starters?

They started the Superbowl with these corner backs:

2nd year Asante Samuel (before he got good), Rookie Randall Gay, WR Troy Brown, and Earthwind Moreland.

In 2003 and 2004 the Patriots used over 40 different starters due to injury and had to move guys into new positions. In 2005 the Pats lost Light, Harrison and Koppen for the year. Seriously you shouldn't go the injury route, the Pats been down that road for years, hell they paved and widened the road. Cripes,Troy Brown even played DB.Welcome to the NFL. You play the teams on your schedule with the players you have available.

they still have players. if they don't step up, then their team suffers. every team goes thru this

6. Kansas City at Indianapolis: Peyton Manning has a slight edge over Tom Brady in the Pro Bowl voting, and what he did against the Chargers shows why. At his worst, he's still one of the best. Manning threw six interceptions against the Chargers. Despite that, he almost overcame a 23-0 deficit without most of his offensive weapons. Incredible. The Colts still have the injury problems, but the schedule shifts mostly to the RCA Dome the rest of the season. The Colts play the Chiefs at home without Larry Johnson and have three AFC South home games remaining.

The loss of DE Dwight Freeney was devastating, but this Colts team is feisty. Tony Dungy has defensive players flying to the ball. This week, they will have to fly in the path of new Chiefs starting quarterback Brodie Croyle.

The media ballwashing of Manning is bordering on nuaseating/insanity.. If Brady,Romo,Favre,McNabb etc had that kind of game, and lost, they'd be getting skewered this week. They wouldn't be getting ballwashed. The only reason the Colts were in the game was the ineptness of the San Diego offense. It had nothing to do with Manning. With 6 interceptions, it should have been a blowout. Six int's is an incredible performance? Gimme a break..

And to top it off,Manning leads Brady in Pro Bowl voting for AFC QB.That's despite the Colts losing to the Pats in Indy AND the 6 INT performance..

The Pro Bowl doesn't mean ****. It's just a ****ing popularity contest. I mean, Tony Romo got in last year just because he was on the Cowboys.

Oh and John Clayton is an idiot.

Romo DID have that type of game a few weeks back (5 interceptions) and they let him off the hook too.

The Cowboys won that game. Romo actually had a couple key passes on that game winning drive..Soooooo,different result.. And the mediots actually were giving Romo a tough time during the week, tho not as bad had they lost...
Had the Colts won,the ballwashing would be 24/7..

Nope,it isn't. at all..My point is...Don't call a six INT game an "incredible performance".

Some guys are teflon. Farve has been terrible for the past few years... reckless, foolish, sloppy... but everyone said he was great when it was clear that he was in a slump for three seasons.

The thing I dislike about Manning is that he reminds me of Dan Marino. When things go right it's because of the future hall-of-famer but when things go wrong it's the idiot kicker, the route the wide receiver ran, or the coach calling a time out when he shouldn't.

For the past twenty minute Aikman and Buck displayed their man-crushes on Jason Campbell of the Redskins. "What a day!...", "...maturing before our eyes...", "...this is how you define your reputation!"

And then he throws an interception with 1:50 left in the game.

"Er, never mind."

These announcers should hold off on the man love until after the game.

The Jets beat the Steelers??WTF  What an embarassment. Watch the media get off the Pitt bandwagon real fast.

Jason Campbell: the Week 11 Trent Edwards...

Wow Maroney just walked in to the end zone.

Maybe the Bills were listening to ESPN too much saying the Pats don't have a running game (they're ranked #7 in the league, even higher than Indy)

Oh please..That "theory" is as lame as it gets..

The FREAKKK!!!!

Brady to Moss touchdown :D

the ironic part about the running game thing is that everyone was raving about Joseph Addai and the Colts running game when they're ranked 9th in the league and the Pats are ranked 7th.

Oh please..Don't even get me started on the Colts.. Here's Manning's line for today's game against the friggin Chiefs

Passing CP/AT YDS TD INT
P. Manning 16/32 163 0 1

Can't wait to hear the ballwashing this week...

Did anyone see the Cleveland - Baltimore game? Crazy ending
I did indeed. That was one of the weirdest endings I've ever seen in my life.

It looked to almost everybody that the ball had bounced off the crossbar back into the field of play. I was curious and confused when the officials stood there looking at each other, not calling the play either a score or no good.

Upon further review (as they say), you could clearly see that the ball went a little bit past the uprights, bounced off the support beam, and then fell back into the field of play.

I can just imagine how the Ravens fans feel about this. Here in the Cleveland area, we tend to have a pessimistic attitude borne of decades of failures and missed opportunities. We've had lots of things like this go against us. So with all due respect to Baltimore, it's nice to see something like this happen to somebody else for a change.

Sux for them, though.

Well, the Ravens were born from the old Cleveland Browns, so either way the curse of Cleveland strikes :)
