The white band on red socks is wrong for Sheffield so it must be Sunderland 1997. I'm sure it will all become apparent soon!

Quite liked the 3rd Lanark strip, £35 though... Might just lump for a 1982 Scotland stip instead, my hair is already longer and curlier than usual, if I could grow a 'tache I could be Souness!

Not having seen a schedule I'm guessing Hull City will play Sunderland...?

Sunderland? Sheffield United? Either way RAUS!!
RAUS? I've not come across that one before...

It's certainly not Sheffield United, down in the doldrums after their derby humiliation and destined for a Fifth Round FA Cup massacre this Valentine's Day.

Nowt wrong with Sunderland though, I've always found their lot to be very friendly and knowledgeable. And of course, we share a mutual respect for the legendary Raich Carter.

Late 1950s actually, the same era as my Jaffatar's™ regular kit. But well done on identifying the correct club, it is indeed the Black Cats.

Brazil are dismantling Italy in their friendly, which is just getting back underway after the half...Scoreline is only 2-0 but it should be 4-0. Italy look very old, especially at the back. Robinho scored an excellent individual goal.

I actually got my hands on a pair of tickets to the USA-Mexico game. :D:D

Bad seats and double face value :)o) but at least I'll be there. Everyone is supposed to wear red, but the only red I have is my Liverpool jersey...It should a good game. Word is currently that a Mexico loss (and they have never won in Columbus) would mean the end of Sven Goran-Eriksson's tenure as national coach...freeing him up for the Portsmouth job.

Like I said earlier, tickets sold out in 90 minutes and the supporters' groups got the lion's share. But since I have zero chance of going to the WC in South Africa I want to see at least one qualifier, and the match against Mexico is arguably the best on US soil. They will try to win this match, and we will have our European-based stars out on the pitch.

I simply could not bear the thought of being just 120 miles from the stadium (which qualifies as "nearby" in the USA ;) ) and missing the game.

Not EPL, but what a fantastic goal by Messi in the Argentina / France friendly. And props to Tevez for setting up the run.

He-he...

Norway, who didn't win a single game in 2008 under Åge Hareide and have dropped into fifty-something on the FIFA ranking, just re-hired Egil "Drillo" Olsen, the coach who took Norway to two World Cups and as high as number 2 on the FIFA ranking during the 90s, and then went down to face Germany (ironically numer 2 on the FIFA ranking before this game) in Düsseldorf.

Well, what do you know...Norway won 1-0 and played really, really well...Germany had its chances but so did we.

Two effing training sessions, simple messages and a nice game plan, from the old master.

Cannot wait to see what he can do when the Norwegian league starts up again and we have people like Carew and Riise back from suspension and injury...

Maybe the Norwegian national team might be worth folloing again after 10 dreadful years (since "Drillo" stepped down after the 98 World Cup).

Agreed. If I did't have to work I' be there with you lot. ;)

Hope you enjoyed the game, Blackadder! A tidy 2-0 win for the US. No Messi-like brilliance on the goals, but they count just the same.

Crowd looked into it -- bet it was a great time despite the cold and the rain.

So does this mean we're not going to win the World Cup with ease? Blimey. I was under the impression from the papers and stuff that recent performances had demonstrated we were the Best Team In The World and everything...

I think they are starting to cotton onto the fact that Englandshire are not as good as they think. I bet this loss will be put down to the lack of Gerrard, Rooney and Ferdinand.

I must admit, as good as the Spanish were/are I thought England were exceptionally poor last night. Couldn't keep the ball for more than 2 or 3 passes, and we allowed them to keep it at the back for periods of 10 minutes without a great deal of pressing before they actually started going forward.

England were, without doubt, given a lesson in how football should be played last night.

The way Spain passed the ball was just far too much for England to cope with. The moved the ball into space with England just watching.

The won at a trot.

Yup. We needed to, for want of a better phrase, get in their faces more. Rather than just watching the space, maybe chasing it down a little. Although, the referee was poor as well. I was left wondering if football is still a contact sport...

You say England where poor, which they where, but maybe they where made to look poor by the way Spain played. Spain where on another level and their closing down was so good England where pressed into giving the ball away.

Yeah, I don't think anybody is taking away from how well Spain played (especially me, as I support them). I just think that England are built up so much and their performances are so poor that people want to be more realistic about them.

When you've got Heskey, Jagielka and Agbonlahor all starting, you know that things are not as good as they are made out.

To be fair, last night was the perfect sort of match to play youngsters like Agbonlahor in – a non-competitive international against class opposition. We need to see how well he and other players who have been successful at under-21 level cope with the step up to senior level.

Otherwise we're left in the position where we have a vital qualifier or a key tournament match and we're missing key players due to injury, suspension or lack of form, and the only options we have are untried youngsters.

To be honest though, the position that's causing me concern is in goal. There's a real lack of quality English keepers at the moment and this is something we really need to address.

For the last 20 minutes maybe. However, I don't think that's the reason he did it. He played James, Heskey, Barry, Carrick, Terry, Cole, Beckham, Lampard et al. I don't think his mind was on developing youth.
