If Berbatov's transfer makes Keane cost more Liverpool are sunk...but I'll be really peeved if we end up without either Barry or Keane by the transfer deadline. Drogba has whined about leaving for months but now finds that nobody wants him. Lampard needs to go - he's been offered a spectacular deal and refused it. What on earth does he want? A five year deal at his age? Ryan Giggs wasn't even offered one of those.

Maybe that's what the delay is about with Spurs over Berbatov and Keane. Obviously losing both in the same offseason would be rough. But their selling points might never get any higher than they are now. If I were them, my price for the second one would go up once the first one leaves, whichever order it happens. Because once they lose Berbatov, Keane becomes more valuable to them. Keane doesn't necessarily get any more valuable to Liverpool, however. So there's a bit of a chess game over how much they can get for both players combined. I think that if Keane is sold too, then it will happen immediately after Berbatov goes. But if any time passes after Dimitar leaves, then the odds of Keane staying improve.

I see that Ramos is now trying to lower expectations for the coming season, probably to prepare the fans for the possibility that this season's turnover will be too high to really put a strong season together. At this point, sixth place and a decent run in a cup competition would be acceptable to me if it feels like Ramos has a plan coming together.

Mourinho is being very smart about this Lampard thing. He knows Chelsea will lose Frank a year from now anyway, so they might as well get some cash back instead. He also knows that Chelsea really would rather not to do business with His Specialness because if he gets the better of them, they'll look especially lame. Either way, he torments Chelsea and Roman. But as an Inter follower, I'm not at all sure that Lampard improve the team that much.

New rumors today[/URL] that Spurs are about to sell four players to Sunderland. Not that any of them individually are major losses, but who replaces them in the lineup? Ramos' makeover seems to be getting bigger all the time.

Sunderland Echo have run this today:
Spurs star's agent rules out Cats move
Roy Keane will have his work cut out getting Spurs' Younes Kaboul to Sunderland, according to his agent.
Kaboul is one of four Spurs players – that Keane is hoping to bring to the Stadium of Light.

But Kaboul's agent, Rudy Raba says: "Younes wouldn't join Sunderland even if there was an earthquake,
"We have more interesting options than Sunderland. Don't even think about it."

hahaha, who says footballers have no standards!

I don't follow them closely, but don't they have a pretty crowded midfield as it is?

They aren't short on midfielders, that's for sure. Off the top of my head, Zanetti, Vieira, Stankovic, Jimenez, Cambiasso, and the Artist Formerly Known as Figo, they would seem to be in pretty good shape at those positions. But you have to figure Mourinho will want to ship at least one or two of them out, just because he can.

...And managers like to work with familiar players. Not to mention that Lampard helped bring in some silverware at Chelski. His age will be less of a problem in Serie A as well.

Tottenham have complained to the Premier League over Manchester United and Liverpool's pursuit of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane.

Sir Alex Ferguson's comments that he expects a deal to go through for Berbatov have infuriated Spurs as has Rafael Benitez's interest in Keane.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy singled out United boss Ferguson for criticism.

"It is unbelievably hypocritical given his comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid," Levy said.

I've been feeling more confident over recent weeks as our signings have taken place.

I'm under no illusions, it's going to be a long, hard season and one that may well ultimately end in disappointment – but it looks like we're going to be making a real go of surviving rather than just pocketing the cash as some clubs have done in the past.

Whatever happens, it's certainly going to be interesting – for one thing, we're seeing something that no City fans have ever witnessed before in our entire history. Bring it on, we say.

All you have to do is have 3 teams finish below you. I could argue that there are 3 teams worse than Hull on paper.

I agree, we're by no means the worst team in the division despite what some would have you believe. One thing that is going to be important is that we acclimatise ourselves as quickly as possible, and aren't overawed by our opponents in any way. We're fortunate in that our first few games are relatively easy (as much as they can be), so hopefully we can get some points on the board early and build some confidence.

Most of the pundits seem to be giving Hull and Stoke zero chance of survival, with West Brom being rated as having a slim chance. But then again, the pundits said the same thing about Sunderland last year, and also confidently predicted that Fulham would go down. Hull have certainly shown determination to stay up with their signings, so whatever happens they'll come out fighting.

The Guardian is reporting that Chelsea have bid 80 million pounds for Kaka, and that Milan are negotaiting...THAT would be a major coup. Abramovich is nothing if not determined.

Fixed that for you ;)

Transfer fee's have gone stupid. £48m was crazy but it was for one of the greatest ever players to kick a football. £80m or more for the likes of Ronaldo and Kaka is nonsense.

Ha, thanks. :D

It's only going to get worse I'm afraid. It all comes down to financial muscle, but when you have a group of very wealthy men playing financial chicken with each other the stakes get very high indeed.

I thought Real's rumored offer of ~70 million for Ronaldo was madness, but this is 10 million more. And that's just the bloody transfer fee! Wages haven't even entered into it yet!

I wonder if Levy is bluffing or if he seriously intends to try and keep Berbatov and Keane. If I was a Spurs fan I would want to keep them at almost any cost, but if they want to leave...Berbatov in particular has a reputation for being a sulk, so keeping him might not be an option if he really wants to leave.

Of course, once the first whistle blows, all this wheeling and dealing will be less important that which shirts people are wearing.

Ah, Keane is coming to Liverpool, there is no doubt about that. Can't speak for Berbatov but I would wager he'll end up at United.

The problem is if they have any real evidence of 'tapping up' because I don't think answering a question in an interview quite does it. Even then, it's only going to be a small fine and slap on the wrist.

Steve Sidwell has just scored an own goal on his debut (?) for Villa. Ouch.

In propper news, Carlisle have been linked with former Stockport County striker Anthony Elding. What would we be getting dynamicv?

berbs and keane both could be gone! spurs will piss this league...

Oh my word, are you sure it's not a misquote?

I didn't think it was possible for the FA to take a realistic perspective on anything.

In other news, West Ham United played a friendly this weekend in the stadium of my home MLS team, the Columbus Crew. To make the atmosphere more authentic, a group of real football hooligans was imported from Old Blighty and promptly began fighting with the local supporters. You can't take the English anywhere, I suppose. ;)
