If Capello is the disciplinarian he's painted as, I would think it will keep him out of the next England match at least - though I suppose it will depend on the extent of Gerrard's involvement.

Best of luck to Hull, though Villa are firing on all cylinders at the moment.

If Gerrard is guilty then he is a very silly man and should accept whatever punishment he gets, either way this will have a big impact.

My lift to the match arrives in 40 minutes, it'll be hat and scarf weather tonight methinks...

I might treat myself to some Bovril at half-time. :)

I am in two minds about tonights game. I want Hull to win as they are the odd ball team of the year. But I also want Aston Villa to win for two reasons, Ashley young is a brillant player and Aston Villa are playing some great football at the moment and also they will go above Arsenal.

They would go above Man U if they win 10-0 ;)

Though I can't see that happening, it's good another team is up there this season worrying the "big four".

Come on Hull..

^ A worried fan of one of the "big four". :D

Villa are the opposition who I was most concerned about this December, we'll see what happens. I doubt it'll be a 0-0, though.

I've abandoned the half-time Bovril purchse plan and have instead prepared a flask of the stuff to take. This officially makes me an old gimmer, I think. :p

From what I read on the BBC live text the last few paragraphs sums up the game quite well

2159: It all means that Aston Villa move back up to fourth, three points ahead of Arsenal and behind Manchester United on goal difference. Hull stay eighth but they are only seven points above the drop zone and are now on a run of three straight defeats.

2155: A catastrophically dull game finally comes to life in the last few minutes. We'll here more about that penalty that wasn't, but basically the right decision was made in the end. It's probably just as well, because Martin O'Neill was in severe danger of actually exploding. Steve Bennett has had a bit of a nightmare today.

2154: FULL-TIME Hull 0-1 Aston Villa

2152: Massive controversy. Hull win a corner and a header loops towards goal. Two Villa players leap with their arms in the air and Steve Bennett gives a penalty. Villa's players complain vociferously as the Hull fans make their feelings known. Bennett goes to speak to his linesman and then points to a goalkick. Replays show the ball hit the bar - not an arm. Phew.

2150: We're a minute into three of added time. Well done Villa, but I feel very sorry for Hull. Their supporters look desolate.

The part in bold I feel is a little harsh. Yes it is 3 straight loses however this was a hard fought game against a team that are on the very top of their game at the moment and it was an unforunate goal as well. This was a massive improvement over the previous two games. Hopefully can craft a result on your travel to goodison park next.

Saying the referee had a bit of a nightmare is understating it a tad...

Nothing wrong with our goal at the start of the first half – it happened right in front of us and Barmby's challenge was perfectly fair. Friedel sank his face into the turf in embarrassment at his fumble and made no attempt to appeal – he looked rather surprised (and relieved) when Mr S. Bennett (Kent)* disallowed it.

* No, 'Kent' isn't a typo.

Indeed – it's like a few games back. We'd lost three games in a row (two of those against Chelsea and Manchester United, which we weren't really expected to win in all honesty), followed by three straight draws. The pundits reported with some relish that we hadn't won in six games, until we followed that run with our win over Middlesbrough. Suddenly, we had an impressive four match unbeaten run... :D

Onwards and upwards.

Jaffa, you're still eighth, which is at least 10 places better than the pundits had you at before the season started.

After the Man City match, Phil Brown talked about getting back into a clean sheet mentality. Hull might not have gotten the result today, but they definitely tidied up their play against a better team than Man City and with a little luck (or better refereeing?;)) could have drawn or won.

Indeed, hence the onwards and upwards. A Goodison Park-based mauling of Everton would more than make up for tonight's disappointment, and as an added bonus it would also annoy Mitty too. ;)

Roar!
Well, with Evertons abysimal home record this season, I'm not confident at all even if the team is in excellent form at the moment. An over(?) confident Everton against a wounded Tiger (;)) is not something I look forward to...

8th with plenty of other teams struggling for points. After all the main goal for a newly promoted team is to avoid relegation, everything above that is just gravy. Hull, it seems, like their gravy.

Perhaps not over confident but coming on form after having to adjust their playing mentality with the injuries. An upset I would love to see. :p

How frustrating was last night!

I must have been sat quite close to Jaffa as I was behind the Barmby goal and there was nothing wrong with it. At this rate we are going to turn football into basketball with no physical contact.

And what was going on with the penalty at the end? OK I know it hit the bar and not the players arm but the ref gave a penalty and the linesman got into position for the penalty to be taken. It was only after all the Villa players ranted at the officials that he decided to change his mind, how can he do that?
If the linesman didn't think it was a penalty why didn't he flag at the time?

On the whole Hull where unlucky and deserved to get something, the game against Newcastle on Saturday is a good chance to build upon this performance before a number of really tough games.

I am glad to see the 'respect' campaign still applies to the big clubs. The behavior by some of the Villa players was a disgrace.

Mmm... gravy. Northern boys love gravy.

Where were you sat then, R? I'm to be found in E3.

I was in the North stand, so I was pretty close to it.

I will be up with the prawn sandwich brigade in the West Upper for the Newcastle game. Parts of the West Stand where empty last night, too cold for them, maybe the mayonnaise would freeze?

you two must have a pint together!!

I'm sure they'll get their butlers to prepare warming snacks instead.

I've got my Newcastle ticket, I've also picked an extra one up so I can take along my young nephew. I'll therefore have to watch my language, which is a bit of a pity as I was looking forward to using some naughty words in the direction of Danny Guthrie...
