Seems the embarassment was too much for the Coventry board ;)
Ah, but we've been responsible for quite a few sackings/leavings by mutual consent over the past few years... ;)

Boothroyd joins the likes of Peter Taylor (Crystal Palace), Steve Cotterill (Burnley), Phil Scolari (Chelsea), Paul Simpson (Preston) and Gary Megson (Bolton) in being sacked in the aftermath of a poor result against the Mighty Tigers in recent years. The hapless buffoons. :D

Such a haul of scalps is sure to strike fear into opposing managers' hearts. Had you been in the premier league, surely Roy wouldn't have survived his first meeting with the Tigers. :D

Just yesterday on the Guardian football podcast they were talking about the oldest players in England, who were in their 70s - but I think they played for a non-league side.

Sounds like Deano's got another 30 years in him then. :D

EDIT: Brown and Smalling made an extremely unconvincing pair in central defense for United, but Marsaille failed to score and Hernandez continues to do so rather freely. I may be oversimplifying things, but I feel like this season's Champions League has become a little boring - it's obvious that the Champions are going to be Spanish. Barcelona will win it, and even if they are knocked out by some fluke result Mourinho's Real will likely be lurking to take the trophy. Inter could, on paper, mount a credible challenge (they just knocked Bayern out but leaked two goals in doing so) but the rest of the remaining teams are just not good enough. The Spanish giants are all but invicible at home.

They'll be playing for an SPL team next year.

I've been busy with other things so not really been following Scottish football since the old firm fiasco, probably best to keep my head down until it all blows over. Or until the next one. I did see that Celtic's Gary Hooper got a call up for England which is well deserved. He was a good looking prospect until Celtic signed him!;)

I think the oldest top flight footballer in England was Sir Stanley Matthews, who played past his 50th birthday. He actually played beyond that into his 60s for lower ranked sides but picked up a cartilage injury during a match in Brazil at the ripe old age of 70. In his autobiography he bemoaned the fact that this injury curtailed a potentially promising career. :D

LB, you made me laugh so much there!

Something that I've failed to mention so far is that there is free SPL football available on an irregular basis to those with satellite dishes (Sky or Freesat but not on Virgin for some reason) on the BBC Alba channel. The what? I hear you ask.

It's a Scots Gaelic language channel (that's Gaelic pronunce like gaa-lick, not Irish Gaelic pronounced gaylic.) But the player names are the same in the commentary. You can also pick up the occasional cookery show which is a bit of a laugh (Gaelic for microwave = microwave:confused:)

So Dundee Utd v Hearts tomorrow for free, which should be a reasonable match.

Father Ted always kills me. Classic. :D

That scots Gaelic channel would be great to watch. I occasionally watch the Spanish language channels here because they sometimes show games that aren't being broadcast in English (even some involving MLS teams ). My Spanish has deteriorated to the point that I can't really follow most of the commentary any more, but they make it obvious whenever a goal is scored. ;)

Shocking news about Abidal, hopefully it's a routine procedure and he's back in action before too long. Not the kind of "injury" you expect to hear about!

On a more serious note, I've just seen the news about Barcelona's Eric Abidal. Helping knock Arsenal out of the Champions League one week, diagnosed with a liver tumor the next.

Hopefully his upcoming surgery will be successful.

That is sad, liver cancer doesn't have a great survival rate although maybe as a footballer he gets six monthly X-rays the size of the tumour is the major predictor of outcomes.Sad about Robson as well.

*puts fag out surreptitiously*

Well, I wonder what Fergie has to say about this :)

On the surface of it, an appeal won't get him anywhere because he already got off with a suspended ban last season (contingent upon good behavior), which has now been enforced. The FA have made it clear that his behavior was unacceptable. If there is a single shred of credibility to the "respect" campaign Fergie will be serving the full five games. But I don't count on it.

I hope not, what he said was right! Anyway Fergie's not one to fall in line :D at least he has some passion for the game. One of the greatest managers ever (along with Sir Matt Busby) but maybe I'm biased :)

Oh, I'm not saying at all anything against his abilities, they are pretty obvious. But he needs to follow the rules like everyone else. Depsite his press boycotts, Fergie still manages to open his mouth too far by half when he loses, and if the FA are going to be too cowed by his stature in the game to hold him to the same rules as everyone else then they might as well not get up mornings and go to the office any more. I suspect nobody would notice in the latter case.

Many grounds have statues outside, commemorating former greats or immortalising key moments in a team's history. Wembley has Booby Moore and Co lifting the Jules Rimet Trophy aloft, Old Trafford features Sir Matt Busby, while a statue of the recently discussed Sir Stanley Matthews can be found outside Stoke's Britannia Stadium.

Fulham are the latest club to unveil a statue, and the great they want to immortalise in bronze is none other than Michael Jackson. That's right. Michael Jackson. The singer.

As I believe the kids say on the internet – WTF?

Whacko Jacko at the Cottage? Why on Earth? Clint Dempsey must be shaking his head. If they are going to immortalize an American in bronze, it should be Fulham and Columbus Crew legend Brian McBride.

Anyways, in a shocking turn of events Chelski and Real are through to the next round of the Champions League.
