Well I think this story justifes a second post from me, it came out yesterday but we haven't discussed it yet:

Arsenal's Fanshare implemented.

Hats off to Arsenal on this, their ownership situation and the way the club is run are things to be admired.

Kenny Huang is apparently tired of "Huanging" around (see what I did there?) waiting for Liverpool's board to act on his bid.

In all seriousness, I believe that unless a successfull change in ownership is made now, Hicks and Gillette are going to be poised to run Liverpool into the ground, regardless of what heroics Roy Hodgson and the players can perform.

I don't know, I think I'm getting old and cynical, but I've seen these ideas touted about before, most recently with Rangers as an option to buy out David Murray, but they've fallen through. Like the article said, the Barcelona model would have been a good one 20 years ago before the Premiership money, but now the clubs values have rocketed and so a fan buying 1/100th of one share in a club hardly counts.

Now here is an idea - surely fans should be given shares in the club every time they renew their season tickets?

Well, I don't see how clubs are ever going to be owned by the fans so long as the asking price is above half a billion pounds.

Under the circumstances, this at least ensures some ownership presence and representation by fans, which can't be a bad thing. But you are right, the actual ownership percentage is tiny.

Aston Villa is off to Vienna again. Surely they aren't looking dressed for success with a scratch team spearheaded by Heskey? I hope Brad Guzan has a good game though.

Glad to finally get rid of Milner and welcome Ireland. We are going to have a great group if Albrighton, Clark and sometimes Weimann/Bannan play. MON doesn't know what he's missing.

Currently listening to my Villa vs. Rapid Vienna. 32' equalizer by Rapid. NOW Davies knows why he doesn't see any time. Cripes!

Young American defender Eric Lichaj is having a torrid time out there, he was beaten for Vienna's equalizer. Villa look a bit weak defensively today. Vienna are getting behind them a lot.

Yes - Dunne, Cuellar, Collins and Young are all missing due to injury and/or resting.

...took me a while to wonder why the old thread wasn't being updated, and find the new one - but I am here now! Had a fun trip up to Liverpool last weekend, nice city, nice ground, and an enjoyable game :)

Ah! There you are! Timing impeccable as ever. :)

Jay Simpson – what say you?

Seem to remember watching him in the FA Youth Cup a couple of seasons ago, and he was very good. He went on loan to Millwall I think, either last season or the season before, and scored a lot of important goals for them - also was given League One player of the season award I think? A lot of people had high hopes for him, but for one reason or another he obviously hasn't made it through at Arsenal. He is still young, and clearly has a lot of potential, so I think he's a good signing. He has been at Arsenal since he was 9! 12 years.

Yeah, he seemed to go down well at Millwall and QPR as well, where he was last season. He had a spell at West Brom as well the season before last – he scored against us in actual fact.

Mr Wenger apparently describes him as '...a very nice boy', which is good to know.

I imagine he'll be straight into the team against Watford on Saturday. My concern is that there's been a lot of talk of him signing over the past few weeks and this – coupled with the fact that we're incredibly light in the striker department – has raised some people's expectations a lot. But we'll see how he gets on.

Any further away trips pencilled in? We're off to Doncaster Bank Holiday weekend. Superb.

I imagine at some point in these most of these young players' careers Wenger simply decides they are not good enough for the Gunners - which is still no disgrace considering the level of play Wenger demands from the seniors (Bendtner excluded :D)

Sounds like Hull City are strengthening the squad decently this season, without spending tons of money.

EDIT: Ryan Babel, in one of his rare moments of quality, has just put Liverpool up over Trabzonspor at the end of the first half. Assist by Cole. But should I care about the Europa League?

I have decided this thread needs to be called 2010-2011 Soccer Thread...
No, I really don't think it does.

The problem is, we've also lost a lot of quality players. Our squad list is looking pretty thin, there are a lot of kids in there at the moment. Case in point, our starting lone striker in both our matches this season is actually a winger.

I am eager to know how he'll fare as well. I have a feeling he might be a very big player for you.

Off to Blackburn on bank holiday weekend - equally lovely! Then Chelsea as per usual in October.. the most expensive away trip of the year. £56 for a ticket.. ouch.

Presumably that judgement is made. I'm sure someone like Wenger, who will have invested a lot of time in each player, will find it very hard to let them go after such a long spell. The kind of training and football education he will have received at Arsenal will benefit him a lot I'm sure.

Man City have loaned us Vladimir Weiss for a year, which would be great if I had heard of him before. I also saw on Sky that Rapid Vienna's Nikica Jelavic "refused" to play against Villa last night because he hopes for a transfer to Rangers (I assume it because he didn't want to become cup-tied). He seems rather useful, and already has a pedigree of scoring against our arch rivals!

The boy's a great talent with lots of potential, and one I fancy for the future. He'll be entertaining to watch, if nothing else.

Just make sure it's not Dad or Grandad Vladimir Weiss.

You know the way things are going if dad turned up to watch his boy and just happened to bring a pair of boots with him, he might just get a game.

Fizz, Paul's record is only intact when the teams involve Germany (I think he was just lucky for the WC final). It wouldn't surprise me if those crafty Germans put him up to this.:D
