Funny enough, they werent the first words that jumped into my head.

I also like the way the use of the letter F followed by three *** still didnt manage to pass the MR profanity filter!

(apologies for the lack of apostrophes, my keyboard is playing up)

******* me that was embarrassing, needed the 7th minute of the 5 minutes added on (i.e. time added on to let Man Utd win) to score the winner against Lichtenstein. I was near suicidal.

A shocking scoreline and performance. What's going on up there? Of course, a sobering, labored victory against a minnow is probably going to produce a more realistic assesment of Scotland's abilities than England are experiencing after an easy win over Switzerland. I'm sure the papers are going to get all gooey over Fabio again. ;) ...England still leaked a goal though, that should be worrying.

The thing is, it wasn't that bad a performance. We just missed a few chances, Liechtenstein just got their tactics spot on. They felt it was their time and went for us. Problem is we are still trying to play like we're in the world top 30 :)rolleyes:) but the minnows see us as their big chance to get a few points. We're going into matches with a 'don't lose' attitude rather then 'let's win'.

Swiss goal was a cracker, no shame there. Papers all over Rooney this morning, I think it was poetic justice he scored the first.

the austria game against kazachstan was not far from a nerve wrecking game either with our boys blowing 5 clear chances in the first half hour and then getting none only to score the goal in the 91. minute and then score another one in the 92. minute
deserved but lucky win.... (70% possession )

though the germans now start to get into shape slowly .. hammering their little country 6:1 with having chances missed every 1-2 minutes

Columbus won last weekend, beating DC United 1-0 in a dour match and that takes us top of the combined table, even on points with LA Galaxy. I don't think Columbus have ever looked spectacular this season but we just seem to grind out results and get good contributions from the bench. We are still in the hunt for three trophies this season, so all is well for us so far.

Not overly so, I'd say — the Swiss are a decent side and Shaqiri's goal was a fine strike so no complaints there.

Meanwhile, I've officially decided that I don't like the new England kit. Gah.

True, the Swiss scored on a well-taken goal that would have gone in against just about any team, though one might say England's lack of pace in defense was a contributing factor. In the end it's a good, if somewhat expected result. A. Johnson's goal really vindicated all those who have been advocating his inclusion.

The England kit looked fine to me, but it didn't look like an England kit, if you know what I mean.

Yes, most of the criticism I hear about Scotland stems from an overly defensive style of play, or a focus on not leaking goals which results in weak pressure on opponents. Still, you won, if only just. What's the general opinion of the manager up there?

...

i'll take another title... even one they have to grind out. ;)

Columbus has won three major trophies in the last three years, the league title and two Supporters' Shields (which in any other league would have been the league title anyway). We are as successful as we've ever been. I think Columbus' big strength is that by MLS standards they are a deep and well-balanced side. We're not sensational but we get results.

My big dream is to see Columbus and other MLS clubs start competing with the better Mexican clubs in the Champions League.

the thing with the swiss is that over the last years under hitzfeld focused too much onb the defense and thus somehow can't really pressure teams if they have to make the game
that's what seperates the big teams like germany, england etc. from the smaller ones

I'm driving home tomorrow and got a weeks worth of podcasts to get through on the journey so I'll be reliving the highs and lows on the way. But I've got I have a rough idea whats being said about Craig Levein; I reckon he was 30 seconds away from being sacked on Tuesday, but in football there is such a fine line between these things; we are now top of the table so I expect the view will be golly gosh that was a close run thing, don't do it again.

Things are moving apace at Anfield....RBS look set to force Hicks and Gillette out, and if there is any justice in the world it will leave those two substantially out of pocket. H&G were always looking to sell Liverpool at a handsome profit when the time came, but they timed things badly and also turned down some potentially profitable offers because they were greedy and wanted to make more.

The bad news for Liverpool is that the surgery required to remove the Hicks and Gillette cancer is going to be quite painful and who knows what the complications will be? I wouldn't even be shocked if the owners fought tooth and nail against RBS and the club ended up insolvent with a points deduction.

It's like watching a police chase video - horrifying, but I can't look away.

I always like to save up podcasts before a big journey, it makes things go much, much faster. :D

It seems like Europe is a more competitive place to play these days - Eastern Europe is a bigger force than ever now - and Scotland is going to find it that much more difficult to compete, both in club football and internationals.

Fortunately it looks like UEFA are on our sides. From France 2016 the European Championships will be expanded from 16 to 24 teams so it should make it easier for us to qualify. Unfortunately it means we don't have the infrastructure to put in a bid for the 2020 competition unless it's a joint bid with Wales or the north of England.

Well if the RBS owns Liverpool and the British taxpayer owns RBS, that means I own Anfield:D. But rather than RBS looking after the interests of Liverpool, I think (and this might be wrong) that by classifying the debt as toxic they are able to transfer the debt to a government holding company (UK Financial Investments Limited) who look were set up during the sub-prime "crisis" to look after toxic debt, and thus RBS can make more profits.

I wonder about the new qualifying scheme...perhaps it will make it easier for the bigger teams, because they are more likely to face a relative minnow in the group stages?

It's just a mess. The notion of a firesale price is likely to attract the next Ken Bates, and there's no guarantee the next owners will be better than Hicks and Gillette.

The United/Everton match has to be one of the best i've seen recently. Crisp goals, brilliant saves and what a fightback.

These three games in 7 days will be crucial even at this early stage. Got off to a good start with a great result against Swansea, though I'm sad to say we were pretty awful.

Naylor must be dropped. I don't understand why Grayson persists with him. Every single goal we've conceded has been his fault. He even scored one of them.

We have a lot of options in terms of attackers and most of them staked their claim for starting on Tuesday against Barnsley (in front of nearly 7000 travelling Leeds fans). Watt looked a bit tired today but still a classy player, Gradel is busy and really unpredictable and always dangerous, Watt is like a calmer version of Gradel with a bit more class but less raw pace and technical ability and tricks, Becchio looks tired and should be dropped but scoring makes that a tricky thing for Grayson to do, McCormack is quality and he looked it even with a cameo today, and Somma is our hidden gem.

I'm happy. Gonna be a decent season.
