I think Rooney may need to hire another PR firm. Let's see, was it his poor showing in South Africa, the family issues with his wife, wanting out of Man U? He's not done a whole lot to endear himself to his fans. Has he peaked as a player or does he still have some gas in the tank? Does Fergie know something we don't? It will be entertaining, to say the least, to see how this all plays out.

I can't believe I actually wasted my time following this stupid story. I feel so... used..

Well that was anti-climactic, what a complete waste of time. Bloody poser...

Everyone ends up looking the fool except Sir Alex, David Gill and the Glazers.
Nor Rooney I'd say, who has more than likely come out of this with a longer and more lucrative contract than that which was originally offered to him.

What a crock.
To be fair, I don't think this had anything to do with Owen Hargreaves...

It's a reasonable assumption, whether it be at Manchester United, Manchester City or elsewhere. Footballers tend to start talking about other clubs when they're haggling over contracts...

Stevie G did the same, though in a somewhat less public manner. Still, I think Rooney comes out of this a bit tainted, because of his theatrics. More tainted are the "fans" that went to his house in masks, that was shocking.

Fergie is the one really laughing here, because the media were sharpening their knives over this one and he's won the day once again. The man is untouchable, which annoys me to no end.

Rooney's agent, that's it really

Rooney's agent, Paul Stretford (what an ironic surname to have in this instance!), is a real piece of work. He fancies himself a real Jerry Maguire type, all about making the big deal and screw everyone/everything else. Andy Cole wrote an excellent piece about him this week. I think he planted some bad thoughts in Rooney's head in order to unsettle him, potentially driving him to a bigger payday at City or Real.

It's going to be really interesting to see how Rooney re-integrates with the squad and the fans now.

Wonder if the balaclava-wearing band was the same group of "protesters" who staked out Rio Ferdinand's house five years ago when he had his own protracted contract saga. Rio actually opened his door and confronted them in a tense standoff. I could never see Rooney having that kind of courage.

Man United/Fergie win too, since they can't afford to lose Rooney. But they've had to pay for it.
Don't think it's a win for them really. Yes they get to keep Rooney but at what cost? Fergie looked genuinely let down by Rooney in the press conference and the rest of the team aren't going to be too happy with him if he basically publically announces that they're not good enough to win anything

In far less interesting news (to all you lot), Columbus won in Trinidad & Tobago last night, besting minnows Joe Public 4-1. We sent out a reserve squad as excpected, and it showed in our general disorganization; had both sides finished all their easy chances it could easily have finished 6-4.

Still it's our first win in 7 matches and will hopefully provide is with a little momentum as we try to make a credible run in the playoffs. Strikers Mendoza and Renteria both had good matches, and since we've been short on goals lately that's a promising sign. Sometime New Zealand International Duncan Oughton stroked in our fourth at the death from a great backheel by rookie midfielder Dilly Duka after a good run up the right by Renteria.

It was a dead rubber, but we won...

Very true, though the situation could have been much worse, Rooney could have left. It would be interesting to know what Stretford and Rooney were planning to do if United called their bluff.

Going forward, one wonders how this affair will affect Rooney and Fergie's relationship, Rooney's form, his relationship with his teammates and the teams ability to perform as a whole.

Yes, I have to agree with you on this, especially the way Rooney has acted. That picture of him and Fergie smiling away like long-lost friends-priceless. With regards to the Boss, Fergie does tend to wear a teflon suit.

Sky Sports News are reporting that Portsmouth's administrators are set to liquidate the club In the next 24 hours after failing to reach a deal with former owner Sacha Gaymadak. We play them at the KC tomorrow in what potentially could be their last game, should these reports be correct.
