Sorry for insulting your research in my above post but it's full of inaccuracies. Hang on, you're one of them so I'm not bloody sorry. :p

This might help with your research. :)

Well it was still fun writing up the articles :D And I'm not sorry that your team is bottom of the table! ;)

An an aside, Paul Merson (who is covering the game on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday) seems to think that OllyW's boys are called Wooose. :D

Given the cost-based 'badassery' rating that we're apparently judging grounds on, I'll wager that Hull City (or 'Haw', if we're back on Merson) would top the table easily given that we didn't pay anything to build our ground – the Council did and we basically rent it from them. Superb. :)

What the hell was that? I hate to see Man U win, but that was a cheat of a goal if I ever saw one. How much foul play happened on that second goal??

Spurs played well, were unlucky on the first goal, but once van der Vaart went off I knew they were sunk. Ugh.

lol, rant over.

P.S. Man City looked quite unconvincing, despite a spirited Wolves performance.

P.P.S. A nice brace from Clint Dempsey saw off Wigan. My Fantasy squad thanks you Clint. :D

That second goal confused the heck out of me, mostly because the video feed was too busy showing highlights of Nani going down in the box. When they cut back to live footage, the ball was rocketing into the net, Nani was celebrating, and I was very confused.

It really looks like Gomes got caught napping. He assumed a free kick was given, but it wasn't, so Nani nipped in and scored.

The goal was kind of superfluous, anyway. After VdV went out with his injury Spurs didn't look like scoring again. Rafael did a fantastic job on Bale today. And how was the first goal "unlucky"? Looks like Nani finally hit a good free kick and Vidic made the right run to power it home.

Wow, Dempsey bagged a brace? Glad I didn't drop him from my fantasy team.

And once again: let's all laugh at City...

The Liverpool goal against Sunderland was much more scandalous if you ask me. ;)

I agree with Silencio, I blame Gomes, not the ref, for his lapse of concentration which, given his PSV history, is nothing new.

The handball should have been flagged, it was a foul, and nobody knew that better than Nani. Gomez should have played to the whistle, as Nani did. But it was foul play all the same. In the end it didn't really affect the game, but it was unpleasant to watch.

Bale played well, Raphael did a good job marking him but he still managed a few good chances. I say the goal was lucky not because Man U didn't do well to create it (they did), but it was an open match and it could have easily gone the other way up to the point van der Vaart went off.

Best American outfield player in Europe.

They are just three points back, mind. And Arsenal have you on goal difference, with Chelski five points ahead of 2nd place. It remains tight at the top.

"Not really sure what Clattenburg is meant to do. No point giving the handball, since Gomes had the ball in his arms, advantage Tottenham." Micheal Cox twitter page, must say I agree.

I disagree - IMO refs should always blow up immediately unless they intend to play advantage for the very reason that you might have a situation like what we had today. It's a farcical goal, but I do agree that once the goal is scored it has to stand.

In the end, it didn't matter in this particular match - but had it been a deciding goal the controversy would be much larger.

Brilliant game today at Newcastle and we have them next at the Emirates. Should be fun.

Another day another controversial win for United yesterday

Hope Liverpool does well today

The goal came at the 84th minute and it was only a 1-0 lead prior to that. 6mins + Extra time in Premier League football means United might have won it.

Yeah but spurs were offering nothing at this point. Van der Vaart was their main outlet, once he went off they weren't the same

The point is we'll never know. At 2-0, no, they were never going to win it. At 1-0, it's likely they'd get one more chance to equalise.

A win for Liverpool, against a decent opponent, away from home. "Turning the corner" is still a ways off I think. Cole is now injured, and our play was inconsistent. However, we are unbeaten in three matches, which provides some momentum.

Konchesky gets a lot of criticism but I think he's a good player. Maybe not quite top starting quality, but better than his many detractors paint him to be.

That is true. van der Vaart was their biggest threat but Spurs still could have equalized. The Nani goal effectively sealed the win to what was a pretty open match.

EDIT: Newcastle are playing like a very different side from the one that was relegated tot the Championship a couple seasons ago. They work hard, and work together. Questions may remain respecting the individual quality of some of their players, but there is no doubt that relegation and Championship football has resulted in a much better product than the premiership outfit from two seasons ago. Chris Hughton has proven himself a decent manager as well, though it remains to be seen whether he's a Premier League quality manager.

Well, if he keeps them in the PL then I think he's done a good job. Considering they're currently 7th and seem to be good for it, I'd say so far so good. I don't expect them to finish 7th but I certainly think they'll survive

I've just come to accept the fact that Spurs aren't going to beat Man United. It's easier to deal with when you know going in.

They put up some crazy stat on MotD, something like 47 games in 13 years against the 'big 4' - haven't won a single one.

I hate it when attackers go down and deliberately handball to stop play when they are down, they should be yellow carded. But the ref was quite right to ignore the hand ball and allow Spurs to play the advantage. Play to the whistle, as my old school coach would constantly tell us....

It had a lot; defender pulling and clipping, attacker thinking he has to exaggerate to get the penalty, handball, and a dopey keeper.

Yeah, in Premier League games against Spurs, the ones that the Big Four care about winning, they never lose. Unless Spurs can take more points from those games, they probably won't crack the top three any time soon. Especially if Man City makes it a Big Five.

van der Vaart was less seriously injured than first thought, looks like he may be fit to face Inter.

I'm still undecided about it. On the one hand, once the keeper gets control of the ball, you'd assume it's safe to play on. On the other hand, it might be dangerous to play the advantage when there is an attacking player nearby with only the keeper to beat. It could be argued that Nani ultimately had the advantage after the foul because he had isolated himself and Gomez in front of goal, and all it took was a cheeky little maneuver to regain a huge advantage. Gomez still deserves blame for his mishandling of things though.

In more serious news, Dundee have gone into administration and are being docked 25 points. All over a relatively piddling debt that Wayne Rooney could pay off with a couple weeks wages. It seems unfair that the fans have to watch their club plummet because of decisions the ownership and management have made.

I've been following Dundee FC's troubles, they are a big club, got a big fan base and proud history - this isn't a Gretna. But that is just an outrageous fine that does nothing to punish the directors who have mismanaged the club and walked away, it just makes the sale of the club impossible by the administrator by virtually guaranteeing the demotion to Div 2. I believe the administrator is in talks with two parties, the debt is ‘only’ around £300-500,000.

If you look at previous SFL precedents (Livingston and Gretna) they both got relegated 2 divisions so if anything Dundee are getting off lightly. If they keep this up soon there will be nobody playing in the top flight!

The Man U goal was similar in a way to a controversy currently raging in the back pages back home. The Dundee Utd v Celtic game last week was balanced at 1-1 when at 70 minutes a Celtic player went down in the box. The ref pointed to the spot, blew for a penalty, then after a confab with the linesman, changed his mind and gave a drop ball, which Celtic didn't contest because they were confused. The Utd manager wasn't happy because in his opinion the ref was far too quick to point at the spot, and the Celtic manager wasn't happy because they didn't get the penalty. So everybody had a go at the ref and linesman, despite TV evidence showing that they did exactly the right thing.

Now linesman Steven Craven has resigned because of the abuse and also says (allegedly) that SFA head ref Hugh Dallas (no stranger to controversy) influenced some post-match statements by ref/linesman. Now if I were being cynical I would point out that the linesman was due to retire next month anyway but now he's free to sell his story to the newspapers.

Now onto more pressing concerns; with the tasty looking Tottenham v Inter Milan and Bursaspor v Man Utd on telly tonight, I've got no chance of finding a pub showing Valencia v Rangers
