EDIT: it continues to fascinate me that the English have almost zero interest in managing outside their own country. There are a few in MLS, but apart from McLaren's short Budesliga adventure, England's European coaching presence is nonexistent.

Don't forget McLaren won the Eredivisie with FC Twente last year.

Thought I read that Sam Allardyce was weighing up taking a job outside of England. Guess we'll see.

There are a few English managers plying their trade abroad, but certainly the bigger names tend to stick here, and those who do move overseas tend not to do so in the top leagues.

In fact, that's not too different to our players...

Merry Christmas to all!

Leonardo got an early delivery from Santa, as he is now Inter manager.

Lady Blackadder got me a Jabulani replica ball, and I nearly knocked a wreath off the wall attempting a few little flicks with it. It's -3F outside so I'll have to wait a while before I can have a real kickabout.

I know the Eredivisie is a good league, but could it be termed a "top" league? I consider it a step down from the very best, like Ligue 1.

Well, he is an example of an English manager who went to a foreign league and succeeded. But yeah, can't say the Eredivisie compares to the Bundesliga or Ligue 1, let alone the BPL or La Liga.

I'm happy for Leonardo. It was foolish to make him the scapegoat for ACM's struggles last season.

Here's hoping Santa brings me a late Christmas present tomorrow: a Chelsea / Arsenal draw! :D

Milan had an unbalanced squad and under-performing players. Rafa's poor record at Inter really takes the pressure of Leonardo as well, because Inter can only go up from here.

Good result for Manchester United, excellent result for Arsenal, bad result for everyone else as it opens the gap. If Chelsea don't get their act together, United are going to stumble straight into the title.

I'll be interesting to see how United cope with fixture congestion- I can see them competing on a few fronts for a while to come, and while Ferguson is good with rotation I just don't think they have the same quality in depth that they used to. The Chelsea United game rescheduled for March should be pretty important in deciding the title imo

I (desperately) want to see someone other than Chelsea/United win the title, but I simply don't think Arsenal will be consistent enough to do it. Redknapp is making noises about a title challenge but I don't see United dropping enough points for Spurs to pass everyone up, especially with their leaky back four.

United have the best defense, if they win the title it will be because of Ferdinand and Vidic. If Arsenal do win the title, it will be due to defensive improvement and a stumble from United.

If anyone can deal with a congested fixture list, Ferguson can. I'd be more worried for Ancelotti, for whom a couple of bad results that turned into a blip has now turned into a full on slump. They were saying on the telly that Chelsea are now the second worst side in the division based on form – not what you want when you're the defending champions.

For Arsenal's part, they look good going forward – as they invariably do – but whenever I see them play I always expect them to concede. And again, they invariably do.

Yeah, I haven't bet on Arsenal keeping a clean sheet for a long time now- although the two new defenders have kept the status quo I can't wait for Vermaelen to get back, and I reckon we could do with a brick outhouse coming in to boss the back. (can't see this happening)

It''ll be depressing if they do take it but I think United look likeliest, and the worst is that they've not played well this year. I really would be sad if they made it unbeaten though- that really would be undeserved.

How so? If no other team in the division can register a win over them in 38 attempts then I'd reckon they'd deserve the achievement.

I very grudgingly must agree. I imagine Wenger would have been much happier with a 1-0 or 2-0 win rather than the 3-1, with the goal coming on a predictably Arsenal-esque defensive foul-up. United will not leak three goals like that, so to concede even one against them almost always results in them snatching a result.

Of course, if United (or Chelsea or even Arsenal) DO win the league this year, that means all this talk about the league being "especially open this season" is absolute bollocks, once again. Manchester United, all by themselves, are the Premier League's Old Firm.

As a rational man I concede what you say is right- but my statement comes from a wish to see great records being broken by truly outstanding feats. Just like Usain Bolt has brought hope back for the 100m and wonder at what might be truly possible.

If United match this without having to excel themselves due to an inconsistent and haphazard season across the league (unfortunately the teams who have found consistency and put in the heroic performances are aiming for a europa place- and I wish it could be the prem) then I think that achievement is the same measured only by the numbers- and I'd like those milestones to mean a little bit more than cold stats. (overly romanticised thinking, I know)

I think we all know your true reason – you just don't want Manchester United equalling the achievement of the true Invincibles, renowned for going a whole title-winning season undefeated due to the skill and verve of their superior football.

I am of course referring to the Preston North End team of 1888-89.

Quite like Preston- they looked like getting into the play offs a few years ago but seem to be struggling now. Should sack the manager and get someone in with more experience:p

But yeah, seriously, that does come into it a bit- probably not as bad as for the Scousers right now though. Still, at least we've got some jam to look forward to tomorrow!

They did things properly! With proper facial hair, uniforms made from sackcloth and a medicine ball to kick around. They didn't mortgage themselves into perdition to win, or utilize foreign billionaire owners, or put out a squad of Euro-prettyboy youths with no bollocks.

Now, this "Premier" league has a distinct tendancy to become silly! The same people keep winning everything over and over and over again!
Graham Chapman for head of the FA. Even in his current state he'd do a much better job than the incumbent rabble.

Well, it looks like Zigic finally did something useful for Birmingham - though he did rather break the rules...

Looked like an awfully boring match, doesn't really change the title race but from a Birmingham perspective it's a gift point, which they badly need.
