kudos to vettel's crew. they gave him a great pit stop. Alonso has a lot of work ahead of him if he really wants it.

still pit stops for guys ahead of Alonso....crossing fingers. Maybe he'll get a break. Wonder what happened to him on the start? Didn't seem like he was on it.

As I said earlier, Webber, Massa and Alonso pitting was not a good idea. Webber could've pitted under the safety car but would still have ended up in fourth only at best. Alonso needs failures (Hamilton to pit?) but tbh it's Red Bull's to lose.

Yup. Race isn't over yet but sure looks like it.

Ok, it's over. Congrats Red Bull and Congrats Vettel. Ferrari/Alonso, it's time to get up and dust off and get it on for 2011. I can't wait!

I would have preferred Webber, but Vettel will do!
:D

EDIT: nice bit of Alonso showing his true sportsmanship at the end...

I don't like "The Finger" much but you have to hand it to him: he did what he needed to do and challenged the others to follow and they failed to do so. And it's nice to see the champion crowned by winning the race too.

in the end the most consistent qualifying racer finished first ... despite RBR early technical problems, unnecessary mid season driver conflicts

on the plus side RBR didn't resort to late season pit orders which makes the victory over Ferrari sweet sweet justice

Webber on the other side blew it completly ... 2nd weakest qualifying of the whole season and then when it was his job to put Alonso under pressure to help his teammate ... well he took a nap for the rest of the race when he realized he had no chance to win

mad props for the fast thinking teams who went into the pits during that early saftey car phase.. could have been a great opportunity for Ferrari for using Massa as a Joker to help Alonso ..but well .. they didn't

Too bad for Webber. I believed this was his last and best chance to win the DC and with Vettel now DC, his status as #1 within RBR is now truly official so I can't see Webber being able to beat Vettel in 2011, either.

I'd agree with that, Vettel's certainly being the most consistent over the season of the three that were going for the championship today, and given the circumstances the most deserving as well… he saved his team from an embarrassingly farcical situation today. :p

Strategic-stupidity today from Ferrari, but the Championship wasn't lost today, it can be traced back to the handful of errors by Alonso all the way up to Spa, without those… who knows. :(

Though taking the title down to the last race in the 3rd best car is really rather incredible when you think about it, quite an achievement in itself, he really shouldn't have been in the fight today given his weaponry.

Fantastically futuristic circuit… tremendously dull race.

Congratulations to the future Ferrari racing driver though! :D

That isn't technically true. Toro Rosso deliberately let webber past Aluguersuari. That was more obvious than Ferrari in Germany.

The way I see it, he let Webber past because Webber was fighting for the championship and he didn't want to be the one to ruin it for anyone. Massa wasn't so he couldn't have had an effect.

STR use Ferrari engines, so it wouldn't be in their interest to anger Ferrari either.

I think Webber still has a chance next year, but it will be harder. Hopefully having won both championships the team will feel under a little less pressure, and still allow both drivers to fight.

Well done Vettel

only watched highlights but did not expect that outcome.

Think one of the commentators said something of not using team orders during the last two races helped Red Bull.

Already looking forward to next season.

I think it's probably been overplayed for several races that Red Bull should use team orders, when really when you think about it, there's never been a need for them to do so when their drivers have been so close (on both points and general performance) all season. A situation completely unlike Ferrari where Massa had and indeed has been severely under-performing and struggling (much like Kovalainen at McLaren in 2008). The final points differential between their drivers alone, demonstrates that Ferrari's decision in Germany was ultimately the correct one.

But don't think for one moment had it been Vettel, Webber & Alonso at the start of the last lap yesterday, that it would've been by the end of the lap, because it wouldn't, regardless of Dietrich Mateschitz's pontificating to the contrary. He's not stupid, and neither are his team.

Yeah, this really irked me. That little act right there tells you all you need to know about Alonso.

He is irritating isn't he, old finger boy. Monty should be on the phone to Philip Morris this morning, raising funds to poach Vettel, Hamilton and Newey. Whatever the cost of breaching contracts... it'd be worth it. :D

exactly he is not stupid ... and he is also a genius in points of brand marketing- .. and because of that there was _no way_ RBR would have resorted to some obvious takeover/pit order maneuver... it would be such a huge blow to the Red Bull brand image that it would take years to get rid of such move

He'd f'in need to be to turn the sh*tstorm that would have followed into a positive had they lost the drivers championship in those circumstances. ;)

no way_ RBR would have resorted to some obvious takeover/pit order maneuver...

Is this the same team that pinched a new super-duper wing off its other driver to give to its prodigal son?

They wouldn't of course, what would've happened is that Vettel would've moved over of his own volition, much like Massa had to, I mean chose to do. ;)

Can't say I'm happy that Vettle won the title. For me he acted too inmature this season. Plus, his victory finger was just damn scary - not the same as say Tiger Woods fist pump. Regardless of my opinion though congratulations to him for finishing first when it counted most.

Alonso too has been a brat despite how well he can drive so I'm glad he didn't win it. Ironic he was held up and couldn't get by despite potentially have a faster car. No team mate to move aside for you that time. :p

I really feel gutted for Webber. He drove very well this season. Sure he made some mistakes, but all of the top 5 did this year. I think his were at least self damning, whereas Vettles screwed over other drivers. It's a shame to see a team that didn't support both of their drivers. I think Alonso's reactions this year give additional insight into what was going on behind the scenes in 07 at McLaren as well. Now Massa gets the brunt of that.
