To be honest, I'm not sure about those Hybrids. They seem like a stopgap solution to me, and I'm not sure if they offer that much of a benefit over a regular HDD. If you're giving up on SATA-III, you could still get a fast, tried and proven SATA-II SSD - I think that would be a better value than a Hybrid.
I'm not sure how you can argue that an SSD is a better value than a hybrid. I bought a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive for an older MBP of mine for only $130. An SSD with that capacity would run well over $1000. I'm not suggesting that a hybrid drive performs like a true SSD; God knows my OWC SSD is lots faster than my Momentus XT. But hybrids like the Seagate have been well-reviewed, certainly perform better than standard spinning-platter HDDs, and are TONS cheaper than true SSDs.
