So one of my buddies is having problems with updating from Snow Leopard to El Capitan (Told him not to update to sierra as the majority of what we do can't run on sierra) due to his dad putting an admin password on there. I've been looking for ways to bypass the password without changing it so he can update the system to a newer version and be able to download newer software, namely Discord.

There are methods to reset, or change the password while booted to single-user mode. You don't have access to a recovery partition on Snow Leopard, but you can reset the password by booting to the Snow Leopard installer DVD, and run the Reset Password utility.
If your buddy's dad checks up occasionally, then you don't want to just reset the password to your own.

So, can we assume that your friend's dad doesn't particularly like his son gaming with his buddies?

If the dad is OK with that, why not just ask the dad to enter the password when needed?
You would need to convince him that you have a good reason (more gaming, eh?)
Maybe all you need to do is ask :D
