Can't believe the amount of people that think the 2011 Imac is a better gaming machine then a 360 or PS3.. wow
Better CPU, better GPU, better control interface – easy enough to believe.

Moz, just wait, adapters should come.

No way :)

The CPU is good, the GPU is just a mobilty unit, The standard mouse and Keyboard are ordinary for gaming. An iMac is a long long way behind a PC when it comes to gaming and the amount of games. The PC is behind a console with ease of gaming. The iMac is not better then the crappy PC all in ones to be honest. It all made worse by the fact that a mobility unit has to power a 27" monitor at high rez. Though if you have a nice gaming PC, its an Excellent 27" monitor.

The Kanex XD do this with iMac from 2009 to 2010. Unfortunately, this won't work with the new iMac's, but, luckily, Kanex are updating their product, so it'll work with the 2011 iMacs. However, there's no time frame, price or 720p / 1080p confirmed specs, yet.

Euuuh .. what?? 6970M is excellent GPU for gaming .. it´s not just ¨another mobility unit¨ .. sure it´s not the highest end, but high already to kick console´s butt and make you forget about them .. Plus it´s packaged with 1440p monitor, no consumer HDTV made with that resolution yet

And to be honest too, iMac is thousand times better than all in one PC out there. The highest-end of iMac compete with base MacPro, and you still say iMac is crappy .. wow

The GPU is great. It's a 6970M which is based off a 6850 desktop but with ~12% lower clock speeds. Performance should be no more than 15% less than a 6850.

And, any other all-in-one will be made of plastic and have a rather cheap non IPS display, compared to the beautiful aluminium case and IPS display w/ edge-to-edge glass. You'll also not find another all-in-one which offers a more powerful GPU (most of them suck), nor both a powerful CPU and GPU.

what just pop the console game into the Imac.... yeah that will work. OR visit the local games store and browse through the latest game release... for a MAC??? I think your confusing an Imac for a dedicated Gaming PC running SLI/Crossfire. Your second best MOBILE processer is not going to tickle the 360 or PS3 especially at the resoultions it has to support on a 27" imac.
Any dGPU in any modern computer is better than either the Xbox 360 or PS3's GPU. The Xbox 360 or PS3 has a hard enough time running games at 30fps at 720p let alone 60fps.

Im comparing it to a gaming PC, you cannot call a card slower then a 6850 running at "1440p" an excellent gaming GPU. If you idea of ideal gaming experience is a 6850 kudos to you, I have a 5970 dual and thinking up upgrading. A 6850 for me is average, each to thier own.

Agreed, as an all in one its the best you can get. And if your happy with performance of a 6850, its great for you. 6850 is underpowered for myself though.

Yes but games are written for PS3 and 360. They still look great, given they run on big screens. Got my point lost, the 360 and PS3 have heaps of games, if you do not load bootcamp on a mac, your choice frankly sucks. I just do not see an mac as a gaming solution. The few non graphic intensive games I ran on my imac were great, but the choice is not there.

The iMac was not developed by apple with the sole use of gaming in mind , but still some strange people think " it has a big display and a intel i3 i5 i7 CPU inside , a ATI GPU and can run windows "and their conclusion is it has to be the absolute most perfect gaming rig of the century , and are disappointed if they dont get 400fps while playing their preferred game with all settings to max .
The answer to that is very simple the iMac is not a Gaming Rig .
But most are really happy about the performance from their iMac
if you are not you need more something like that here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqHI2xiDMWE and do some serious overclocking and modding that rig inclusive watercooling

Indeed it is, and yeah it depends on what you're happy with. It's a big upgrade for me, coming from a 4850M 512MB :p

7xxx series should be on its way soon, 7990 FTW? :D

Not to feed the obvious troll...

For the average home user the new iMac is a very well positioned machine with a decent CPU, GPU, reasonable amount of RAM, sufficient HDD... If you are buying in hopes of an uber gaming machine, well you're going to be a little underwhelmed.

6XXXM is a very decent GPU, it will run most games well, so I don't understand where the issue is? If you want an uber pew pew gaming rig then visit Falcon-NW-rumors or Alienwarerumors....

You can't backpedal that easily. Your initial statement compared the iMac to the Xbox 360 or PS3. The iMac has an undeniably superior card to what those consoles are equipped with.

I dunno...could the earlier imacs do this?

...I think I'm about to have a nerdgasm.:eek::eek:

I'm sorry... what are you trying to say here?

I have those desktop consoles. Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 play GTAIV at sub HD resolutions (640p) at 30fps, whilst my 6970 1gb runs it at 1080p at 60fps at higher settings. I'm afraid you're quite wrong.

TF2, L4D2 and Portal 2 at run at 60fps at 1440p, everything on max (console versions run on med-high settings at 720p).
