sorry to say this... "Not Hot" and "Super Fast" is just your imagination..

It is indeed fast, but not "super fast" compare to other laptop at half of the price.

It's certainly not hot. Using it on my lap right now, and it's cool to the touch. It's loaded up with the highest spec processor and a 512GB SSD. It's about as fast as you're going to get without using a desktop processor. What's your point?

Been using mine for just over a month now (15" core i7 2.3ghz, 128Gb SSD) and haven't had it freeze up once; I did have an issue where one core was going bizerk after installing macports causing the fan to go nuts and the cpu to spike but after doing a complete re-install the machine has been rock solid. Interestingly I tried selling it and it seems a lot of people are aware of issue 'issue'....barely got anyone even asking questions about it.

Complete reinstall required is a bit scary, result sounds good though. Large variance in experiences with MBPs evident. Many say they run hot and freeze while just as many seem to have zero issues. Maybe points to QC issues? Macs are built from ground up by Apple to a limited range of specs. Would think such variance would not exist.

Might just take the plunge on a base 13" MBP and see what happens........maybe the next iteration. Got to find out what "you people :)" are on about.

HUH?

You are probably the only one who find it not hot.... Then what is this thread for? Why people redo thermal paste?
Pretty obvious huh?

Try to watch youtube or talking on skype with video chat on your laptop..
Be sure to film yourself using it... And no cover under.... :D

About the processor, you can get the same thing with half of the price on other laptop like DV6T.
Btw, Apple does not offer the highest spec CPU that Intel have for mobile..;)

This thread is for an issue that was resolved long ago by a firmware update. Like everyone else, my MBP locked up under high load. It hasn't done it even once in the months since the firmware update. Even the website dedicated to the problem admits the firmware fixed it.

As for other manufacturers, who cares? You provide no argument that my computer isn't blazingly fast. And those other computers don't run my software, so they are useless to me.

I guess this link has already been posted on this forum many times before in previous posts, however I am directing towards this new post which has just been posted about an hour ago by someone.

Here is the exact comment that shows on the link above:

"For those who are still facing trouble in regards to hard freezes of Apple Macbook Pro under intense graphical work or even in any normal circumstances, I must say, it is really a shame on Apple, reason being, I am currently on HP Compaq Presario - CQ56 Notebook PC, this laptop was purchased recently by a friend of mine and I was the one who suggested him this laptop as his main work is document processing and watching movies online, talking to family overseas through skype and sometimes listening music and he had the budget of less than 250 pounds, also he didnt want to go for a netbook.

I suggested him to go for this laptop, as on tesco clearance sale, this laptop was available only for 239 pounds and it has 1 year warranty, after purchasing it, the first unit that arrived home had some problem with trackpad, so he called up tesco on just second day of delivery, and they sent a new unit and collected back the old machine.

This is not even on a Intel Processor, it is running on AMD V140 2.3 Ghz processor only 2 GB Ram, no Extra GPU except the AMD Processor its on a Win 7 home premium 64 bit operating system.

I tried Webgl Aquarium, works perfectly fine, it was running on it for over 1 hour under full settings of 100 fishes and all graphical options selected, it works like a charm.

Tried watching some 1080p full HD Movies on VLC Player, works perfectly fine, tried watching a live stream Full HD Video on Youtube for about 20 minutes non stop one after the other without any breaks in between, works like a charm. I am on a normal Home DSL Wireless Connection which gives download speeds of upto 10 Mbps (not MBps) and this is working perfectly like a charm.

I have been looking forward to buy a macbook pro very soon, and now I am thinking, this is ridiculous, a 250 pound machine is working better than hundreds and thousands of Macbook Pros 2011 editions... Doesn't Apple really need to think over this?

I am posting these details on the Apple Macbook Pro feedback form, that I earlier posted on this forum, lets hope Apple does do something to sort this mess out. Cheers
"

So the question that really arises in my head after reading this post is, why would someone pay 2000 pounds for a machine that is not even capable of doing some really basic day to day tasks that a 250 pounds machine can do?

I mean playing normal HD Videos, watching movies listening songs, etc etc.. Macbook Pro 2011 is crashing even when the computer is just booted at times.. People have got it replaced over 5 to 6 times in just 2 weeks time of purchasing the Macbook Pro, thats almost half the total number of days in "2 weeks", and this is happening globally.

I would really emphasize on asking for a replacement or refund as and when you see any such problem arising on your Machine, as there is no meaning in waiting for others to take these steps so that Apple gets things into their notice and start to roll out some solution to this, its rather better to yourself take some steps so that when apple sees their month end or quarter end reports, they do realise how many refunds and replacements have they processed in just 1 quarter after the release of Macbook Pro, such things, do really affect and I am sure the higher the number the more likely, apple will surely do something to sort this out!

What are you going on about? My 2011 MacBook pro works perfectly, as does nearly everyone else's.

hi there,

this is m first post in this forum, long time I was just a watcher and now I decided to write.

Let me describe my situation. My name is Dmytro. I live in Austira.
I am a student of architecture, mostly working in windows 7/64bit.
This is my second mpb, first one I have bought in NYC in 2008, that was almost TOP model 17''/2.5ghz/2gb/512mb video nvidia). Like I said before I am using windows to mac like 70% to 30%. So all this time from mid 2008 until the end of the last autumn I have been using this laptop for hard works (like render in 3ds max or HQ graphic editing). Everything was perfect, but at once my mbp probably was overheating too much and I got freezes. One guy helped me to change thermal grease on video chip. After A while I have got the same issue, and after couple more changing the thermal grease my lovely laptop died! Graphic chip completely blown..

About a couple month ago I have bought a new mbp (15''/2.2ghz/4gb/1gb video ati). I installed windows 7/64bit immediately. At first everything was good, but after changing the RAM from 2x2gb to 2x4gb. I noticed that some problems started to appear. When I am watching video (doesn't matter LQ or HD) after an hour or so the laptop just freezes. Sometimes it is just short-term freezing, but occasionally I get "blue death screen". Only rebooting the device help me.
Myaby I accidentally damaged something when I was changing the memory, but I don't think so.
I installed all updated for boot camp and for EFI. Nothing helps.

When I am using LubbosFanControl 1.1.0 and my fans works about 4000-5000, then I can watch a video. But it is stupidly..
When I am playing or renderind - everything is ok, no freezes.

If somebody have the same symptoms, please help me!
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks but smcfancontrol doesn't seem to be available anymore. There's another temperature app that costs $6. Worth it?
