hissing - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?

Apple in all their glory has a hardware issue in many if not all of the newer mac book pros and airs. When you plug the Mini Display Port in, and at the same time plug a 1/8” cable in for audio, there is something called a “ground cross” going on inside the computer, causing it to emit a very strong 60 hz buzz through the speakers. The way around this, is to route the audio into a DI, ground lift it, and patch it into the mixer via an XLR cable.

WHAT is going on with these people?!?!?! did NOBODY try out the headphone jack? is there any acountability with these people?

Sorta related but has anyone also got an electric shock when they have touched their MacBook Air on charge when touching a metal, grounded object? (a sink in my case)

Put your hand on the MacBook, and the noise is almost gone (grounding of the case...). I think the problem is that the device is not connected to ground in the socket (not grounded at all).

Is there a solution?

Yes.. if your problem is an Impedance mismatch.. See my Sep 10, 2012 post for a couple of lo-cost solutions and an explanation..

My 2011 MBP works perfectly with all my Low Impedance devices (including molded IEMs that cost me $1000) with one of those adapters added..
