Is the problem youre having only appearing in "In depth" photography work or can you tell while just browsing the web? im scared that i have a crappy pannel now too!

I first noticed just using it for normal stuff. I was looking at my itunes library in the "Album view" just thought everything looked very flat and desaturated, which I never noticed before. The more I compared though, the more it shows.

I'm not sure what the technical definition of vibrancy is, but it's how I would describe the colors on my 2010 MBP. It's not a matter of oversaturation, it's just how it renders greens and reds in a very pleasing way which I haven't seen other displays do.
The new 13" MBA does not have the same color quality, as the 2010 13" MBPs. It seems Apple is slacking on LCD quality lately.

I've always wanted to calibrate mine properly, but couldn't decide
if I should spend big bucks on something I'd only use once or twice.

Off topic:
How'd you manage to get a replacement? I too have a Late 2008 Pro.
The first one had dead pixels and was exchanged within a week.
Second one flickered. In the first repair, they replaced the display assembly.
Flickering came back, so I called Apple and elevated to the senior level.
I was told they would authorize a replacement after a second repair.
Logic board and ram were replaced in this repair.

Lately I have noticed the flickering again. I spoke with a senior hoping
they'd offer me a replacement. However, they told me to repair it once
more. Which makes sense due to the 3-lemons rule. Problem is, my
AppleCare is running out. In the last repairs, I waited until the flickering
became serious and easily reproducible. Sorry for my long, off topic post.

You can read up on the story here:
3 pages long... but it tells the whole story.

I don't feel like writing it again. :p best of luck though.

I have 13" MBP. The screen looks worse than my dell inspiron 15r.
Here's what I see:
00000610
00009CC7
C6C4B780

thats the same one i have on my 13" i5, the screen sucks compared to my prev dell e1505 from 2007

Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed something very interesting.

I ran the termal command
Code:
 ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
to try and figure out which monitor I truly had. It gave me the result LP154WP4-TLA1 -(LG-Phillips)
which is GOOD!

However, in ColorSync Utility, it says I have a 9CA3 which should technically be a LTN154BT08 -(Samsung) which, from my research are supposedly the bad units.

I'm leaning towards trusting terminal more, but I'm still unsure. I feel my whites are slightly yellowed. I called Apple, and they were useless. If I bring it in, I feel the Apple reps will just laugh, and say it's fine.

Same issue with color vibrance

Hi, I am facing the same issue with the color vibrance on 9CA3 and when I enquired the same in apple store they asked me to run the screensaver for 24hrs which inturn proved waste of power and time. Did you resolve the issue by anychance ?

thanks

There was no resolve. It's just a fact that the screen on the 2011 is less-superoir (in some cases) compared to the 2008. It has less color-quality overall.

It's the glossy screens, I saw the same thing. I won't get into why (ok I will, I'm picky), but I had a antiglare, then a glossy, then back to the antiglare - 90% of the reason was the color vibrancy. I noticed that even side by side with my late 2009 white MacBook - the glass MacBook Pro lacks real vibrance.

I say real because it is definitely a brilliant display, but it's a artificially brilliant display. There is some seriously odd vibrance applied to it, and I couldn't put my finger on it - but it's there. Another serious problem is the calibration seems to attempt to overcompensate for this, which results in a finished product that does not look very good when viewed on any other display.

In contrast, I've found the Antiglare display to rival even the best panels I've used - including a "DreamColor" display on a HP EliteBook, which is downright brilliant and the RGBLED on the Lenovo W520. Best part is that the content produced on the antiglare still looks good anywhere else, something that's quite hard to find.

Again I can't put my finger on it, but the calibration is terribly odd for that display. I can see why Apple sells it, but at the same time I wish they would put the same effort into it as they do with the iPhone.

Sorry, you cannot say X screen has better colors than Y screen till you calibrate both screens. And although the built in calibration procedure in OSX is pretty freaking detailed. Without a proper calibration device + software, comparisons mean nada.

I would suggest the X-Rite i1Display 3 (actually I think they are calling it the pro now). Actually what I would really suggest is the Spectracal Calman v4 + the above meter + CalPC. But you are talking over $500 when all is said and done, but you can calibrate TV's with that setup.

You can also find a i1Display2 setup for cheap. Which is a great meter for the money. But the issue with that one is it is open air. So over time the sensors drift out of spec. Even "brand new" ones can be out of spec if they have sat on the shelf for a long time.

What panel do you have? Go into System Preferences->Displays->Color and click on Color LCD and then click Open Profile. Open it, and look on line 17. My Manufacturer is 00000610, my model is 00009CC3, etc... The 0's don't matter. What are your manufacturer and model numbers?

**mine says:
0610
9CA3

what does that mean?? (later found the list - LG it is)
(terminal gave me an LG - based on my googling at least)
terminal gave this: LP154WP4-TLA1

which seems to give me the same issue as the person above.

Interesting - now what?!
(see my other post with major Panel issues (non-retina 15" MBP) contrast/color - yellowish/ashy whites - overall lacking in brightness, etc.

Oh my g!d - we are having the EXACT same issue. I even mentioned the exact same thing on my FIRST post re: this issue (my reason for joining this forum!). I noticed SOMETHING overall but that issue in iTunes - YES
it's the whites...you can't get a pure white - you can get a cool white only if you tint everything bluish or a warm white and then everything gets 'warm.' so that contrast you are looking for in itunes - that blue against the grey - you can't get it for both - you have to move everything blue-cool or everything warm-yellow - it's making me NUTS -
and the guys in Best Buy saw it too when I put my computer up against their floor models and they couldn't get the calibration to match - 2 "experts" and then my obsessive playing around and it's impossible - it's the white of the lcd - it's also not as bright - i'm maxed out for brightness and normally I add shades to the MBP LOL.

glad to know it's not me -
but,
NOW WHaT?
:(
(even if they would take it back, all their stock is probably coming with the same panel, and they can't keep opening boxes hoping to find a different panel....(best buy)...but can apple do ANYTHING? ?????? short of my returning it and having no computer?
this sucks
