I'm interested in comparing my temperatures to other people.

On 10.6.6, my fans were spinning up and going crazy after watching only about 5 minutes of any demanding video. (Either 1080p or 2 youtube videos).

10.6.7 seems more stable, but not sure why.

Question: What temperature software should I use? I want to make sure I am comparing apples to apples with other people on this forum

Using temperature monitor i'm currently seeing these temps under load (2 videos running for about 5 minutes now):

Core 1: 91c - 95c
Core 2: 89c
Core 3: 87c
Core 4: 85c

CPU A proximity: 69c
CPU A temperature diode: 78c - 85c

(temps vary by around 5c depending on how the load fluctuates)

At idle, I'm seeing around:
CPU core: ~ 70c
CPU A temperature diode ~ 60c
CPU A proximity ~ 57c

Which should I be looking at? How do these look?

Should I wait to buy mbp because of this problem?

Hello,

I just read through all these posts about overheating and loud fan noise. I am a macbook user (high end macbook), wanting to upgrade to mbp. I generally do not use huge amounts of crunching, but am increasingly working with large numbers of photos and songs, and hitting the limits of this machine. So, I am ready to upgrade to a mbp. I could wait 6 months or a year too.
question 1: Could this problem be just in the early mps just released? I read that the first sandy bridge chips were flawed and they had to try to fix them, and I wondered if those machines were somehow affected?
2: Is it possible that the mbps will soon be built a little better, even if they do not do an official upgrade?
3. Most important, do you think I should simply wait like 6 months for the next upgrade?

What are your thoughts?
thanks, Aaron (aj@ebold.com)
