Display: LTH133BT01A03 (Samsung, right??)
SSD: APPLE SSD TS128C Toshiba

13" Base model, bought from powermax.com

Just took it out of the box.

Display = LTH133BT01A03
SSD = SM128C

Brand new MacBook Air 13" core i5 bought at my local Apple store in Montreal, QC.

I guess I lucked out, seem to both be Samsung which is the better combo.

13" MBA ordered from Estonia.

I have the SM128C SSD and LP133WP1-TJA3 display.

I'm experiencing the common dark gradient at the bottom of the screen, but the screen also looks kind of grid-ish to me. It's like there are weird horizontal stripes running across it. It's kind of hard to discern but I find it very annoying.

Just upgraded from the 2010 MBA with 128GB Samsung SSD to the new 2011 MBA and I've been lucky again getting the 256GB Samsung SSD

  • Core i5 1.7 GHz
  • LP133WP1-TJA3
  • SM256C

I've just calibrated and profiled again the screen with basICColor Display 4 and Spyder 3. It isn't IPS-like quality and it certainly lacks some color spectrum, showing a narrow gamut, but it looks pretty well.

The performance of the Samsung 256GB SSD drive is OK too...

Looking at the system profile SATA section, it shows that the chipset supports SATA 3 up to 6 Gb/s, but the SSD drive has negotiated just half this speed.

Inspecting the Samsung SSD drive from within the Bootcamp Windows 7 with CrystalDiskInfo it shows that it's SATA 2 with data transfer speed up to 300, so there is room for more speed using a SATA 3 drive.

The speed tests in Windows 7 using CrystalDiskMark shows this results, I'll repeat them because it's a bit odd getting more writing speed than reading with the 512K blocks

And really happy with the backlit keyboard...

DeBibao, Do you mean that after calibrating your screen, it is pretty ok now?Could you share your calibrated profile to me? Thanks a lot!:apple:

I also have this combo: LP133WP1-TJA3 , but still not satisfactory ..:(

I got stuck with a toshiba in my mba 2011 i5 its the 11" i5 64gb toshiba drive :( will apple exchange it? I got it from an authorized reseller as an open box and do not want to lose the great price I got it for.

People report there is no noticable difference in daily use.. I'd say keep it and ENJOY!!

The Toshiba drive is actually quicker on small file transfers and opening applications. Since you have a smaller 64GB drive blade I would think that is the best combo you could ask for. So enjoy the great saving you got on the open box.

That's strange, looks like a totally new brand altogether!

From Googling it, it seems to be from AU Optronics. Apple has used their screens before but not in the 11" MacBook Air. Until now it was just LG-Philips and Samsung. What is your screen like? Are you happy with it?

Edit: Sorry: Someone else also had this screen a few pages ago, I must have missed that. But it is a relatively new addition (since the 2011 model) and I don't think any of the major reviewers have compared this one to the other two. There has only been one other mention of it in this thread so they don't seem to be common.

Although each screen is unique and sharing a profile doesn't guarantee that it will work for you... I've uploaded mine so you can test it.

Remember, it is an ICC profile generated by the basICColor Display 4 running in Mac OS X Lion and with the Datacolor Spyder 3 tool.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1GRVS2TA

These are the results of the calibration and profiling. I selected 6500º Kelvin (D65) color temperature and also to go for the maximum brightness and darkness. The contrast obtained isn't that great 400:1 with a brightness of 287 cd/m2 and the black no so black... 0,71 cd/m2.

Nothing extraordinary but rather good for a TN LCD display. If wish the MacBook Air come with an IPS display... but it seems that you can't have it all.

It's far away from perfection, but it's much closer to reality. When I run the validation process to get the ΔE deviation in each color, most of them are insignificant belo 1, but there's always one color that shows more than 3...

Remember that you must copy this profile in /Users/<Username>/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder

If you're using Lion and you can't access the Library folder, you must unhide it by issuing the following command in Terminal app

Code:
chflags nohidden /Users/<Username>/Library

Or even easier with this

Code:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/

I put our two MBAs side by side and the part about the screens is true.

The LG is brighter, but the Samsung screen seems sharper and less washed out.

I don't see any difference between SSD.

MacBook Air 13", i7, 256GB

SSD - Samsung:)
Display - Samsung:)

Purchased today at Apple Store, West Edmonton Mall, Edmonton, AB

Yesterday was a busy day, I sold my '08 15" Unibody C2D 2.4 (w/ 120GB Vertex 2) for $1250.

Went to the Apple store and bought:

MacBook Air 13" Core i5, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD.

I turned it on and the screen was very 'red' which went away after about 15-20 minutes. Checked the panel and hard drive:
Panel: LG-Phillips, SSD: Toshiba

I was a little bummed but it seemed OK and it was faster than my MBP so I just ran with it.

At 8:30PM after restoring my time machine backup I decided I wanted the top model and drove back and got the 13"/256/i7

Got home, unboxed it. Samsung SSD & Panel. Woo Hoo. Plus they gave me $100 Edu discount instead of $50!

I'd also like to say that the vertical and horizontal viewing angles are noticeably better on the Samsung.
