Bought my 13" MBA a few weeks ago at Canex here in Kingston.

SSD & Display are both Samsung :D Not sure if the SSD matters to me, I'm really tempted to get an OWC 6G SSD already just for the extra space vs my 128GB stock drive.

Hi!

I recently purchased a 2011 13 inch Macbook Air computer and I have the following question: Where/or how do I find out what the display identification is on my computer?

I am a relative newbie with the Apple OS, so I would appreciate it if one of the members could provide me with the information needed to find out what panel I have on my computer. Thanks! :)

Open Terminal and execute the following string, you can cut and past it...

ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

If the display type begins with LP it is a LG Phillips
If the display type begins with LT it is Samsung

Mine is a LP133WP1-TJA3 display with SM256C SSD

Thanks! I hate to sound ignorant but what is the "open terminal" and how do I access it?

Open Applications -> Open Utilities -> find the Terminal App and open it. Cut and paste the line I posted into terminal. Press enter.

You should see a response that looks similar to this...

LP133WP1-TJA3
Color LCD

I put our two MBAs side by side and the part about the screens is true.

The LG is brighter, but the Samsung screen seems sharper and less washed out.

I don't see any difference between SSD.

I have to retract what I said.

After adding the Macrumors Custom Color profile & sharpening text, the LG looks just as nice as our Samsung display.

I've just got my 13" MBA back from a repair which included fitting a replacement display due to damage to the screen.

Just out of interest, I ran the terminal command to find out who the manufacturer was and I find I've gone from the original LG that I had to a Samsung display.

Upon using it, I can't tell much of a difference at all. I was very happy with my LG and I'm equally as happy with the Samsung. :)

Macbook air 13 inch core i5 128 gb:
SSD: TS128C
Display: LTH133BT01A03

Im happy because i mainly use an external drive anyway and that small difference in speed doesn't bother me one bit. The main thing to me is the screen because on my old hp, if you moved an inch in any direction, the screen would look terrible. It was also much more blue tinted which i corrected. But the blacks were especially bad. They were so bad that even if you stared straight on, you would see gradients in the black.

Apple 13" LTH133BT01A03
SSD: sm256

Can you please verify if this is Samsung?

Thx

I have a Samsung SSD and the LG display. I'm very happy with the display and don't see any problems with it, black levels are great and it's very bright, no backlight leakage and thankfully no dead or stuck pixels.

just got mine from amazon :

lp133wp1-tja3 SM128C

gorgeous display, surprisingly...just happy I got the samsung SSD.

Samsung SSD
Samsung LCD

Funny thing is... I have the combination deemed most "desirable," but I decided I wanted a bigger screen (MBP 15" here I come) so I'll be selling it. It just feels kind of wrong to do that with a double Samsung machine :p

Even worst.. I first bought a 128Gb model (both Samsung) but decided to change it for a 256Gb (still both Samsung) and had to exchange it for a new one with Apple (many issues) and I was lucky enough to get double Samsung as well.. I'm a lucky bastard :)

An LG/Toshiba to Double Sammy

Bought the 11" Ultimate before Christmas from an Apple retail store. Had the LG display and Toshiba 256GB SSD. I was a bit sad about the SSD, given the performance specs. And the LG display had a fairly uneven brightness at low-levels. But I could deal.

About 3 days ago, one of the trackpad microswitches stopped working reliably, so I took it in to the store. Since it was new, and I'd been doing my backups, etc, I had them do a retail swap for a new one.

Lo and behold, once I restored, I noticed I now had the much vaunted "Double Sammy," and its quite nice. I notice the difference. The keys on the keyboard also feel a bit "tighter," which I like a lot.

Quite glad I had a ****** trackpad. :D

Bought the base 13" MBA today :)

DISPLAY - LP133WP1-TJA3 (Phillips)
SSD - SM128C (Samsung)

The SSD was more important to me seeing as how everyone here says Samsung is faster. (Well actually both weren't important, but reading macrumors everyday makes you paranoid :D)
