One could argue that they have washed up talent, and a great center. Just saying...

The coach isn't causing the turn overs on the court. The coach isn't shooting 30%.

Just playing devils advocate.
I don't know what a head coach in the NBA really does. These guys are grown adults who should know the game and how to play as a team. What can a coach do to make a team win.

Great center, still a good SG, close to washed up PG, and no depth. I think its ridiculous that the Lakers are actually talking to PJ, considering the requests he is making. The guy wants to only travel to certain road games? Is that really the type of example you want your head coach showing, regardless of how many rings he has? Oh, Ill go to coach against the Heat, but Ill sit out the Pistons. Ridiculous.

A coach does a lot of things. He is a leader, a facilitator, creates offensive and defensive plays, and the right ones get the best of their players. Ive played with a lot of current and former NBA players, and I can tell you that they arent the brightest crayon in the box. Without any type of coaching, and the organization that comes along with it, the NBA would be just like your local pick up game, and wouldnt be successful at all.

The Lakers bench is sad, Mike Brown wasn't rotating them right at all. The Lakers were up 20 in the fourth against the Pistons, as soon and the bench came in for garbage time the Pistons started chomping the lead away. Kobe and the rest of the starters had to come in and secure the victory, that's sad.

Please let Phil Jackson come back in. He can get the most out of everyone. Not sure if Steve Nash can play the triangle or any set offence but, we will see I guess.

I hope Lakers fans get exactly what they want, it will make watching the Lakers lose even more enjoyable. I mean, you really want a coach that is demanding that he not travel to certain games? Seriously? That is absurd. Greatest coach ever my arse.

Sheesh, act like you're one of the more storied franchises in the game, and not some desperate expansion team.

Not to mention, Los Angeles has a good starting five, but it's not Team USA like people are making it seem. Nash is older now and just imagine him trying to defend Russell Westbrook for a moment. MWP is overrated as all hell in my opinion. Dwight Howard is great, but he's also a giant baby. Kobe's knees are like the odometer on a 80s Volvo, and their bench still blows.

Getting past OKC, Miami, etc. is going to be no easy task. Even the Clippers can run LAL out of the building.

i went to the knicks- mavs with my kid
great game and lots of fun but if they keep this up this might the only game i go to this season as it is getting impossible to find affordable tickets

at one point it looked like the entire geriatrics department was on the floor
had to be the oldestt line up in the history of the nba

I joked around after the Rockets traded for Harden that the Knicks could have gotten him, but they didn't want him because he was too young. :p

Regarding the prices, it's one thing I appreciate about living in Houston. The sports are so much more affordable. I have season tickets to the Texans and I didn't have to murder someone to get them. The Rockets prices are getting worse, but they have decent weekday specials. And the Astros are literally giving tickets away. We also have minor league hockey and a MLS team. My kids will not go without sports. :D

So D'Antoni is the new coach of the Lakers and my world comes crashing down. I couldn't stand him in Phoenix, hated him in New York and now I have to watch him get outcoaches again in LA.

I don't know what I did to deserve this.

Your team traded a broken down Andrew Bynum (out until January the earliest) for a perennial all star in his prime. It's called karmic correction. ;)

Better than Mike Brown. My problem with D'Antoni is his offense limits the roles of guys who aren't the 1 and the rollman. He's an offensive genius but he can't do much outside a pick and roll based offense. Basically I think Kobe is gonna get bored like Melo did last year and screw up the offense on purpose. Hopefully I'm wrong

At least we get McMillan as a defensive coach though. D'Antoni's switching switching switching defense is horrible

Still scratching my head on why we didn't get PJ and Tex back

Because "PJ" didn't believe he should be required to attend every road game. Is that really the statement you want your HC making?

I've also heard reports that he also wanted some type of ownership stake - and he's surprised they went in a different direction?

It's crazy. He wanted $10-$15 million per year, control of basketball operations, the ability to choose his successor, and the power to skip certain road games entirely. I mean, what? Is he kidding? I'm not sure his ego would fit in the Staples Center.

I'm a little surprised the Buss family didn't kiss his heiny and give him everything he wanted anyway, as everyone in this town seems to forget how disinterested he was his last season coaching the Lakers. Part of me wishes they'd hired him, that would have been a fun saga to follow. Although it is fun watching Lakers fans melt down after being denied their binky.

That would have been entertaining for sure.

And, seriously Lakers fans, it's time to get off the teat, ya know?

Most Lakers fans think D'Antoni is the wrong move. I don't know if you non Lakers fans know it but PJ is pretty much culturally embedded in the franchise. Jeannie Buss has been his girlfriend for a decade and that whole basketball operations demand was most likely a response to Jim Buss sacking his entire staff last year. Every few years he leaves the NBA, the Lakers are stuck with some mediocre coach and underachieve, then he comes back, shapes up the team within a year and gets the city a couple parades.

Far as D'Antoni look at your Knicks last year when D'Antoni was trying to turn Toney Douglas into a north south guard and couldn't figure out how to use Melo correctly, the Knicks were a sub 500 team and Knicks fans were chanting Fire Pringles.

PJ has never looked that bad. I'd rather take him sitting out Pistons and Hornets games than some other coach with 100% attendance screwing up the team. He really is that good

Those so called demands PJ asked for were proven untrue.

.....
Now hopefully my Grizz can put a end to this Knicks stuff.

Bumping for the NBA fans

I've spent half the season watching the Lakers playing like trash. Should've brought back PJ

Rockets OTOH are so much fun to watch. Harden is a top 3 SG. Their transition basketball is awesome - ton of football passes and sometimes the ball doesn't even touch the ground.

Rondo was on my fantasy team. Screwed me over repeatedly lol

How about them Clippers?

Still early, but my Finals Prediction:
Spurs vs Heat

This has definitely been an interesting season. I didn't think Harden would be quite this good and Dwight was that big of a cry baby. The Clippers and Spurs both look good, but when it comes down to it I don't think either team can slow down Durant and Westbrook enough to make the finals. I think the Heat will beat the Thunder for another title this year.

I am happy for the Clippers. I was a season ticket holder until this year when I knew I'd be out of LA a lot, as they seemed a natural fit for me as a Celtics fan living in LA. However, this year all the jerk bandwagoners have come out of the woodwork and ruined it a bit, especially with the Lakers stinking up the joint.

I don't think the Clippers will be able to hang with the Thunder and Spurs in the West, but I'm glad they're enjoying a resurgence. Another year or two and they could win it all. It's nice to see.

Unfortunately this has been a nightmare season on injuries and inconsistency for the Celtics. I love the grit they're showing without Rondo, but I don't see them beating the Heat or Pacers in the East.

Looks like it will be the Heat and Thunder/Spurs again. If that gross scenario plays out, I will be rooting Thunder all the way. :(

I'm a Lebron and Heat fan so I'm hoping Miami makes it, but I want the Thunder in the finals also. I think it's pretty cool for the two best players in the NBA to play the same position and play each other for the title. It's not often that happens.

That's what the NBA wants though unfortunately. They don't want parity, they want a few powerhouse big market teams and everyone else to basically be the minor leagues.

The NBA has always been about the big market teams. The stars want to play with other stars in big markets. It is ironic that the Spurs are a small market team and have won four with Duncan and Popovich and OKC is competing for a title. I think the new CBA is really going to hurt teams from trying to have three stars. We've already seen that with the Thunder and James Harden. Miami is going to have an interesting situation on their hands in 2014 with Wade, Bosh and Lebron being able to opt out of their contracts.

I am Heat fan, and I expect them to make it to the Finals again, but Im very worried about the Pacers. They have the perimeter players and size down low that will give the Heat problems. The Pacers really beat our butts good so far this season, and while I still think that we can get past them, they are by far our toughest competition in the East. Some might also say the Knicks, especially considering how they have beaten us twice so far by double digits, but I expect a different game come this Sunday in NY.

I dont know if the Thunder can beat the Spurs in a seven game series this year. While Martin is a good pickup, Harden gave them a slasher that seems to be lacking with the Thunder this year. They have Durant and Westbrook, but Harden complimented those two better than anyone they have this year, and I do see them running into problems in the playoffs. As a Heat die hard, Id like to see the Thunder again in the Finals, because I think they would be easier than the Spurs, but I really want to see a Heat Spurs Finals.

The NBA is not about big markets anymore. Its going to be real hard for teams to keep three stars on their team. If the Heat are to keep the big three, by 2015, Arison, the owner, is going to have to pay nearly double the teams salary, as they are going to get hit hard with cap penalties. He mentioned that they will spend what they need to, but its going to be tough when you have to pay over $120 million a year. Like you mentioned the Thunder, they tried to make it work, but Harden didnt want anything less than a max contract, so they had to do whats best for them. The big three will probably opt out, and everyone is beginning to talk about LeBron going back to Cleveland, but I still dont see that happening yet, especially considering that the Heat have one of the smartest front offices in the game, spearheaded by Riley.
