I am Heat fan, and I expect them to make it to the Finals again, but Im very worried about the Pacers. They have the perimeter players and size down low that will give the Heat problems. The Pacers really beat our butts good so far this season, and while I still think that we can get past them, they are by far our toughest competition in the East. Some might also say the Knicks, especially considering how they have beaten us twice so far by double digits, but I expect a different game come this Sunday in NY.
I dont know if the Thunder can beat the Spurs in a seven game series this year. While Martin is a good pickup, Harden gave them a slasher that seems to be lacking with the Thunder this year. They have Durant and Westbrook, but Harden complimented those two better than anyone they have this year, and I do see them running into problems in the playoffs. As a Heat die hard, Id like to see the Thunder again in the Finals, because I think they would be easier than the Spurs, but I really want to see a Heat Spurs Finals.
The NBA has always been about the big market teams. The stars want to play with other stars in big markets. It is ironic that the Spurs are a small market team and have won four with Duncan and Popovich and OKC is competing for a title. I think the new CBA is really going to hurt teams from trying to have three stars. We've already seen that with the Thunder and James Harden. Miami is going to have an interesting situation on their hands in 2014 with Wade, Bosh and Lebron being able to opt out of their contracts.
The NBA is not about big markets anymore. Its going to be real hard for teams to keep three stars on their team. If the Heat are to keep the big three, by 2015, Arison, the owner, is going to have to pay nearly double the teams salary, as they are going to get hit hard with cap penalties. He mentioned that they will spend what they need to, but its going to be tough when you have to pay over $120 million a year. Like you mentioned the Thunder, they tried to make it work, but Harden didnt want anything less than a max contract, so they had to do whats best for them. The big three will probably opt out, and everyone is beginning to talk about LeBron going back to Cleveland, but I still dont see that happening yet, especially considering that the Heat have one of the smartest front offices in the game, spearheaded by Riley.
