The NBA is not about big markets anymore. Its going to be real hard for teams to keep three stars on their team. If the Heat are to keep the big three, by 2015, Arison, the owner, is going to have to pay nearly double the teams salary, as they are going to get hit hard with cap penalties. He mentioned that they will spend what they need to, but its going to be tough when you have to pay over $120 million a year. Like you mentioned the Thunder, they tried to make it work, but Harden didnt want anything less than a max contract, so they had to do whats best for them. The big three will probably opt out, and everyone is beginning to talk about LeBron going back to Cleveland, but I still dont see that happening yet, especially considering that the Heat have one of the smartest front offices in the game, spearheaded by Riley.

Keeping the Heat as a title contender with their cap being maxed out and Wade aging is going to be a big challenge. It will be interesting to see what Miami comes up with.

It will be interesting, and Im glad we have Riley to figure it out. Wade has shown that he hasnt regressed at all. All the talk when the season started was how he lost a step, and how he is nowhere near the Wade of years past. Well, those same people forget that he just had knee surgery torwards the end of June. Aside from scoring, he is having his best shooting season of his career, and his athleticism seems to be the same. Has he taken a slight step back, sure, but he still has a few years of high capacity play in him.

Im curious to know what the Heat are going to do with the cap though. Arison is a billionaire, and has stated that he would spend whatever Riley needs to keep the team together, but will he really spend $120+ million to keep the Heat at a championship level? One possibility, which I think is unlikely, is that the big three opt out next summer, and re-sign for lower deals, say $10 million a season each, rather than $16. It might be difficult for a guy like Bosh, who doesnt have the endorsements like Wade and James, but if its an option that Riley comes up with, Im sure he can represent it better than anyone, so it is a possibility.

Heat win franchise-record 15th straight against Timberwolves 97-81.
Miami Heat, champion. :D

They are looking really good. Dwyane Wade finally looks 100% after his knee injury last season. He has been playing extremely well lately.

Heat should be a case study on how to build a system around a team. They suck at the 1 and in the paint so Spoelstra created a system that covers up these weaknesses and exploits their strengths. Offense is usually run through the 2 and 3 instead of Chalmers. Bosh is used as a stretch 5 to draw the other team's big man out of the paint. And since they suck at defending the paint, they use traps to make it difficult for the other team to even get the ball in the paint and now have the best trap defense in the league. Those traps also force turnovers and lead to easy transition baskets, which negate the times they do get scored on in the paint. And everyone on the Heat has bought in.

Spoelstra deserves more credit. He's a lot better than coaches who just coddle their star player or try to force square pegs into round holes.

I agree that Spoelstra should get more credit. The way their team is built is really unusual, but they really are successful with it. Of course it doesn't hurt that their best player is one of the best players of all time. On defense the Heat have been good from day one, but it is amazing how well the offense is working. All the struggles they had in the early going have been worked out and they are really flowing.

Yes, Even after off-season knee surgery, Dwyane Wade didn’t let doubts about how much productivity he had left bother him. And During the Heat’s winning streak, Wade has scored 20 points or more in 14 of 16 wins entering Friday. He has scored 30 or more points five times. He plays extremely well lately and hope it can last for a long time utill Miami Heat get its second champion.
In addition, I like Lebron James too.

----------

You don't win championships in March.

Miami win champion in June. :)

Last two games LeBron scores 28 points total, and they win both games convincingly. That goes to show you how good of a team they have around LeBron. Lets see if they can go for 20 in a row tonight.

I used to watch NBA. Then LeBron went to Miami, and all I ever hear about is Miami this, Miami that.

not enough parity in the NBA to keep me interested.

Good to see the Cavs have got a star with Kyrie though.

There has never been a lot of parity in the NBA, or at least since the early 80's. Each year only a handful of teams have a realistic chance at a title. I think the new collective bargaining agreement will help that somewhat, but at the expense of seeing teams at a high level like the Heat, Thunder, Lakers and Clippers. I would rather it stay like it is. If I want parity I'll watch the NFL or college basketball.

Yeah that's the thing. I just can't really get into the NBA because of that. But I still like NFL football. Maybe it's because they have less games?

NFL, college football and college basketball definitely have a better atmosphere than regular season NBA. The playoffs are generally pretty lively though.

Yeah but that's the problem. When you get to the NBA playoffs its....

The Lakers, Celts, Heat, and like 3 other teams. Over and over and over again.

There's actually a lot of cool stuff going on this season

- After moving to Brooklyn, Nets are relevant again
- Lakers were a mess and sub 500 before the all star break, now somehow they've crawled back in
- Rockets redid their whole roster and were supposed to be dead last in the west, they're currently playoff bound
- Clippers are dangerous and have a ridiculous dunk highlight every week
- Warriors were a scrub team last year and everyone was pissed at their GM for trading Montes. This year they're playoff bound
- ROY isn't Anthony Davis, or Kidd-Gilchrist, like everyone thought. It's gonna be Lillard, who instantly become a top 15 pg as a rook

This has definitely been an interesting season with lots of storylines. I still think only three teams have a legitimate shot at a title, but teams like the Clippers and Grizzlies will make it interesting.

Warriors get past first opponent Denver in playoffs. Now it's onto San Antonio and the Western semis.

We have to believe and if one of our football teams could have a QB replacement and still make the Super Bowl and one of our baseball teams have unlikely runs with two trophies, there is always hope.

Maybe our region could be like Boston where multiple teams in recent years have at least made it to the big dance. I am waiting either for Sharks in hockey or Golden State in basketball to at least reach a finals. These last few years have been exciting for the San Francisco bay area in sports.

Last time it was like that was 1989, when the 49ers won the Super Bowl and both the Giants and A's went to the World Series. Couldn't complain about that sort of thing happening again, though the Warriors are still a ways away from being genuine title contenders. Still, they have been to the playoffs so infrequently since the Run-TMC days, I'm just enjoying their run while I can.

To me, Warriors are the biggest surprise of the season. Lacob is a pretty lucky guy. He bet everything on Bogut who was kinda useless the regular season. Now that the game's slowed down, he's like Asik on the Rockets or Tyson on the Knicks - the anchor who needs to be on the court for them to win.

I'm guessing Lacob is no longer getting booed? :D

Warriors - Spurs will be a fun matchup to watch

Completely unrelated to basketball but the Sharks looked pretty damn good against Vancouver the other night. ;) Hope they can pull off that series, I'd quite enjoy seeing Vancouver lose in the first round again. :D

Go Celtics tonight!
