Just got back from the game. Pretty cold through out the game. To me, the keys to the Broncos loss:

1. 3 Peyton Manning turnovers.
2. No pressure on Flacco - we only got 1 sack.
3. Defense gave up several huge plays.

Overall, while the Manning turnovers hurt, I think the defense was the reason for our loss.

talk to me when he wins something else moving forward ... Rodgers and GB are miles from dynasty status.

He doesn't even make it to Jim Kelly QB status ... and people want to compare him with Montana and Bradshaw.

Because games are only played by the offense...

He plays better than a lot of people puts up good to great numbers and seemingly always without an at least good running back, then his D goes and let the other team gain gazillion yards (579 this game).

Yeah it's all his fault he can't win anything...

I agree. Of course tomorrow, everyone is going to be saying same old Peyton. Amazing regular season but can't come through in the playoffs. It shouldn't even have gone into overtime. Playing the safety position, I don't see how you can let a WR get behind you like that, especially with under a minute to play. But I do question two of his three turnovers. First one, I really thought it was pass interference and the second one, I thought the tuck rule would've came into play because like they said in the game, Peyton never really regained control of the ball, it was held on the back of his lineman. Control was lost when he attempted to throw.

Though, I will give credit to Torrey Smith. He single handedly beat Champ Bailey all game with two deep routes.

At the end of the day, Broncos fans shouldn't be too disappointed. Manning came in after missing a whole year with multiple surgeries and won the AFC West with a new team.

Yet so far he's no better than Tebow who also won the AFC West , and at least tebow won one playoff game :p

In all seriousness i agree, it shouldn't even have gone to overtime, really bad mistake by the broncos D there, and they didn't even try for a FG with 30 seconds left and 2 timeouts.

I don't get why the Ravens didn't go after Bailey with Torrey more in the second half either.

So much for those great D's in todays game, everyone scored more than 31 and both games had equal or more than 877 yds combined...

It ends up being the 8th time in his career Peyton makes the playoffs but can't win the first game. That's pretty crazy.

Damn. That's an interesting stat. 8th time losing in his opening playoff game.

With all the defense's that failed today, in terms of stats and yards, I won't be surprised if tomorrow is the same, can't wait for HOU@NE, two offensive minded teams I see points, points and more points!

He did get to the Super Bowl twice and won it once as well as Super Bowl MVP. That's pretty good by me.

As for any lingering doubt about Rodgers being better than a one season fluke, look at other stuff he did besides Super Bowl winning season:

I agree. I just don't think it's completely fair to judge the individual when you could look at other parts of the team as reasons to why a team loses. If it was a low scoring game and Peyton goofs up, fine put all your blame on him. But there was a lot of points being scored. I really believe if Peyton through for 5 or 6 TD's, it still wouldn't be a sure win because the defense played that poorly.

As for Aaron Rodgers, there is no doubt in my mind that he's a top 3 QB in the league. Look at what he's been able to do since taking over as starter. Too bad all that talent on defense can't translate to playing on the field. I'm also calling out Dom Capers. Poor defensive scheming. Not too sure why he keeps playing man coverage. I'd rather play zone and see if Kaepernick can actually read and adjust.

Well tomorrow we get to watch the best QB in football play. Hope he doesn't wind up like the other ones.

Matt Ryan :D
j/k

Loved seeing Peyton and the Broncos lose and especially savored the way it went down
I, along with most everyone else picked Denver, but grudgingly
Flacco gets no respect, but you gotta give him props for what he has accomplished with the Ravens in his time there
Only quarterback in NFL history to reach the playoffs in his first five seasons and this will be his third conference championship
5th career playoff road win yesterday, tying Eli Manning for the most in NFL history

Loved seeing the "discount double-check" go down as well
I picked the 49ers in that one, because I didn't think GB was physical enough for them
They have been relying too much on AR to beat teams

This could happen. We had the best QB with the most yards and TDs still active lose against Baltimore. We had the best QB with the highest passer rating of all time lose against San Francisco. Now the best QB with the most Super Bowl wins still active will play today.

For 3/4s of the regular season, Houston was a far superior team to New England, but the Patriots are hottest at the right time. Just like the Giants turned it on late in '07 and '11, the Pats (along with Seahawks) are doing a similar thing to those Giants and putting their best foot forward.

What could be fun is if NE goes against Seattle in Super Bowl with two teams both playing at their best potential.

What Seattle has going for them is unlike NE, SF, and Baltimore, they have not choked big in postseason lately as bad as those other three. Also Houston doesn't know what total humiliation feels like like NE, SF, and Baltimore. Whether it's good or not, Houston and Seattle don't have monkeys on their back in the same way. NE has two SB losses in most recent trips to big game, SF lost in NFC championship last year, and Baltimore are perennial also-rans in postseason.

You're exaggerating about Houston here. They weren't a "far superior" team ever. They played well to start the year but it wasn't out of this world good. The Patriots were 2 botched replacement ref calls and 3 points away from starting 5-0.

Seattle also has very little (none?) postseason experience. I can tell you from the interviews and quotes coming out of Foxboro this week the Patriots are still pissed at themselves for losing the Super Bowl last year and they are on a mission.

If the Pats play their game, execute, and don't make any stupid mistakes they should be able to win today. This is the first time since Week 1 (and the first time I can ever remember) we are going in to the playoffs with full participation in practice from every player this week. Looks like they got healthy at the right time. I'm interested to see what they can do with Gronk and Hernandez both playing since they were only on the field at the same time for parts of 3 games this year (week 1, seattle wk6, and week 17). It's also going to be the first game of the year that all of our defensive starters will be playing and be in their positions of strength. They looked like they were improving greatly towards the end of the regular season so it will be interesting to see what they can do.

Should be a good one. I hope the Pats win because I would love a rematch with Baltimore of last years AFC Championship. You don't see rematches in back to back years like that very much.

I'm looking forward to the Atlanta/Seattle game too, I think that one could go either way.

I'm still ticked about Broncos secondary and Bailey.

Then they had the nerves to give the ball back to the Ravens with time left. Knowing that your secondary and Bailey was getting torched the ENTIRE game!

I need a beer.

I agree with what Pats have to do today to win and I am not that scared for them if the Pats who show up 90% percent of the time are there.

As for Houston, you can say all you want but they faced harder schedule than you or Denver, and ended at #1 seed. I don't like them but they earned it.

You could fluke out and be a game or two better on regular season record, but you don't get to where Houston is with bad ref calls and luck alone. They are young, healthy, and extremely motivated and NE has better be aware of that. They can't just slide past Houston as if they are a Kansas City or Jaguars.

It's all NE's to lose today and just hope you don't pull out the team who went against us (SF) or the Cardinals.

Lot of missed opportunities by the Broncos. They should have went for something with 20 seconds left and 2 time outs. Also should not have run the ball on a 3rd down in overtime.. should have just let Peyton try for something.

They ended as the #3 seed.

Regardless of what fans might say on an internet message board, the Patriots are not overlooking the Houston Texans. Fans don't play or prepare for the game, and Bill Belichick will have his players ready.

Well they were actually the #3 seed. ;)

Young, healthy, and extremely motivated sounds like you are describing the Patriots too.

Well, one of these teams is in the NFC championship game and the other one didn't make the playoffs. But the results of those two games are hardly indicative of what to expect today.

I saw that on ESPN last night when I got home from the game. I had no idea that Peyton has such a lousy playoff record.

Story of his career. Puts up big numbers all season and then when it matters most he usually chokes.

Why the hell did the Broncos take a knee with 0:30 and 2 timeouts left in the 4th? You have Peyton Manning, the best quarterback in league history not named Brady or Montana, and you don't even give him a shot to make a couple of plays down field and get in to range for a field goal attempt (at mile high no less, where you have longer range than everywhere else).

There is no way in hell Brady and Belichick would have kneeled on the ball like that. You play to win the game, but apparently John Fox was playing to not lose the game. Horrible coaching.

I totally forgot I quoted this post when I wrote what I just said above but you are exactly right.

Agreed. Fans are the only ones overlooking the Texans and we don't count anyway.

Well, fans, and some certain hack "sportswriters" for the Boston Globe.

I'm going out for the games today, hope you all enjoy them. ;)
