I wanted an Air, specifically the i7 13.3, badly. However the 4GB of RAM limit was a deal breaker for me. While that's fine for just about everything, I do a bit of video editing work that previously was in Premiere but now will be in FCPx (and I couldn't be happier). I know Premiere on 4GB is a stretch, and I've read that FCPx is pretty notoriously hoggy as it's a 64bit app.

That said, I'm seriously tempted to replace the white MacBook I'm typing this on with a 13.3 Air. :D

the maxed out 13 inch air is nice.

I will take my 15" i7 MPB over any Air. The Air isn't strong enough at it's price point. 1-2 more years before I like it more.

The reason why a Poll like this is moot is because both the MBA and the MBP is perfect for any specific user's needs. Of course if you're a power user who depends his livelihood in crunching numbers, your love is for the Pro. If you're a teen who just wants to surf Facebook in Starbucks and wants the best portable OSX money can buy, you'd grab an Air instead of lugging around a heavy Pro. Some people just need a computer for Office files. Some people need huge storage on the go. Some people need 16gb RAM. Etc. etc.

This is like a poll asking people "How many would buy Running Shoes over Dress Shoes." :)

Now if you want real concrete figures of "How Many People Prefer...", check Apple's sales figures of which machines sell more.

I have both and enjoy using both. When I need a more powerful computer when I travel, I use my MacBook Pro. If need to pack light or I need to read the news while on the throne, I use my MacBook Air.

will we have two separate lines in 2012 or will the mbp and mba merge?

in 1-2 years i would think mbp would ditch the optical drive and look more like the air.

Nah, I think the air will be it's own line. There are still too many programs that use an optical drive. It will be at least 4-5 years before the drive is non existent in MBPs. The Air will be stronger but always be a year or two behind the pros. The Air isn't a power machine and isn't ment to be.
