Yes! The Mayan's were interpreted incorrectly! December 21, 2012, NOT the end of the world. Apparently that's when the Mayan's predicted new Mac's would arrive!

Who'd a thunk it. The prospect of the world ending is less distressing than a delayed Mac refresh

If the iMac doesn't come out that day, would it be the end of the world?

I was excited as you are when it was April but now the significance of this machine has worn off on me. The only thing that will get me to buy it now is it gets a design change. I am thinking black anodised metal like the iPhone5 with that crystal cut bevel, thinner with non reflective screen. Black anodised keyboard and Magic trackpad. I would be sold in a second for that. Otherwise I am more than likely switching to a bulky PC.

I don't really care what it looks like. I just want the specs to be current. And I'd like it to come out before Thanksgiving.

From the ridiculous over-reacting on the ridiculous number of threads regarding delayed Mac releases, you'd think it already has :p

I think It's justified when It's been 519 days till last update, it may not matter to those who don't mind paying full price for dated hardware, but It's a problem for me..

Even If the performance is incremental it makes a difference because It's an iMac and you cannot upgrade the hardware down the line.. So I wouldn't want to pay full price for out-dated hardware..

Anyway my hopes are we see an update by the end of October..

Lol yup but I hope you are not one of those people that has been saying oh iPhone5 looks the same just thinner and longer so not worth the upgrade, then :p

So, the current iMac already looks better than most (or all) of the PCs out there. Yet, if the current form doesn't change, you're going to buy a 'bulky PC'? Why not get a nice framed picture to put on your desk, you obviously don't need a computer :)

I think it's not worth the upgrade for a whole lot of reasons.

I'm pretty sure we won't see "retina screens" on the next iMac.

It will be a spec bump with a faster processor, better GPU, USB 3 and a "non-glare" screen. Since the new screen will require some redesign, it will be interesting to see if they use this opportunity to get rid of the optical drive.

Although processing speeds won't be dramatically increased, the combination of a better GPU, USB 3 and the new non-glare screen may be enough to encourage some users to upgrade. For new users, it will be a great machine!

I'm really happy with my 2011 iMacs and since I've found a solution to the glare issue, I'll probably sit tight.

...

I do think will see "retina screens" as I believe they're the reason why we did not see an iMac before ; however retina will not be on 27 inch. iMacs but only on 21 ... or better : Apple has applied "retina screens" to 21 inch. iMacs, but they're having a hard time with 27 ...

Yes you can.

Yes you can.

Memory upgrades make no impact on the performance of any computer, unless your addressing more memory then what you have currently..

The only other alternative is buying & installing an SSD, apart from that you cannot upgrade the graphics card or processor..

It's not like an SSD or Memory upgrades will improve Gaming performance or Rendering times..

You can in some models.

You still can though...

Even if I had the money, I wouldn't buy an aluminium iMac. I really hate the reflective screen. It made it much easier to be content with my white 24" iMac. I've had a play on a retina MBP, and the reduction in reflections is great. I think I could cope with that.

My ideal iMac would be a return to the G4 layout with the computer in the base and the monitor on a very adjustable arm. It could look stunning in aluminium and with a razor thin screen and tiny bezel.

I would love the ability to easily rotate the screen with a couple of fingers so that I can sit in the armchair near my computer desk when I wanted to watch video on the Mac.

I'm not expecting it to happen, but I would love it if it did. I am expecting some kind of redesign, otherwise the new iMac should already be here.

well i do need a computer lol.. for money reasons as well as entertainment. All I am saying is a spec bump does not justify this wait and the spec bump to current is already half way through it's cycle so it will be 2nd best soon and yet we still pay best price.

It'd be awesome if someone managed to do a hackintosh in G4 body.
