Good move! I returned my retina picked up a base 11 inch I5, 256. I took the money I got back turned it into one dollar bills and took a bath in it. :D

And those $300 will go to a weekend at a hotel on the beach for 4-5 July (my birthday) :)

A spanking new 11" with huge battery life, new Time Capsule, Mojitos and Rumrunners at the beach for two days.

Priceless.

I'll just take the MacBook Air and my battery. Thanks, though.

So far on my second cycle, my i7 Air is giving me an estimation of over 9.5 hours. 15 minutes in (with 2-3 Safari tabs open and 5by5 live audio streaming), I'm at 98%.

Not bad?

----------

The battery time estimation is now at 10:04.

It's at about 1% per 10 minutes.

Im so tempted just to get the i7/8/256 and just be done with this mess. lol.
My wife has the i5, i just would hope under normal operating, web/email, etc the i7 doesn't get really warm. It's logical that when you are pushing both machines to 100% the i7 will get warmer, but its running faster too. My concern is more at or near idle.

I must say my wife's i5 stays fairly cool, pretty impressed.

Yes, the i5 went on for 4 hours AFTER being on battery since 2:40PM the day before for another 4-5 hours.

The i7 went into panic mode, fan started running as son as it was plugged for about 1 hour and the battery laste about 3 1/2 before I needed to plug the laptop again.

----------

That's what I did, i went with the cheaper i5 and got a new Time Capsule. The whole thing was still 300 cheaper than the ultimate 11"

HOw will you justify your time-capsule purchase than not buying the 512GB SSD :) that i got ?

Remember: 2TB in time-capsule is only available to be used for BACK_up and not like your regular external HDD in which you can cut-copy-paste stuff...i learnt it the hard way yesterday

I know how you feel. I'm in the same boat.

Still a couple of tabs open and streaming a live podcast. Computer isn't cool but it isn't hot either. Just a tiny bit warm to the touch.

95% battery after 33 minutes. It's giving me an estimation of 10.5 hours remaining.

It seems you may have a battery "WIN" here by say getting a 9+ hour battery life...but if its HOT as a COAL :( and Flying like an aeroplane with all the FAN NOISE --> then that kills the whole experience :(

256GB for an extra $300 on a 11" mobile secondary laptop? no thank you.

Time Capsule will replace the one I have (previous gen) , I know how to use it and what it does. ;)

Keep us updated for the rest of today on your results.

Think I'm just gonna order the damn thing. (i7/8/256).
I'll just run it side by side with my wife's i5, and if its not what I expect battery and heat-wise, i'll go with a i5/8/256.

Done: Ordered the i7/8/256

I'm reinstalling the OS right now because unfortunately I'm having a small issue with this popping up in Safari...
Screen Shot 2013-06-19 at 4.45.58 PM.png

Hopefully not a hardware issue.

Anyways, I got 45 minutes of use out of it and it's down to 91%.

Now it's on the charger and reinstalling Mountain Lion. Minor heat. No fan noise.

Safari does not open on a fresh install on the i7, don't ask me why but it will crash after 1-2 seconds, installed twice the OS with the same result.

11 minutes remaining in the Mountain Lion reinstall (internet recovery). Fans are blazing. Heat is hot.

Lol ok...goodluck...i am happy with the 512GB SSD ==> as for me its NOT a secondary laptop...! I am retiring the m1330 XPS...and i am not sure how much of magic do those 6 antenna's do for 802.11ac wi-fi signal strength...users are raving about how awesome it is...but i am waiting for apple to LAUNCH an AIRPORT EXTREME in a MUCH SMALLER SIZE !! )Tall is ok --> but size has to reduce)

That's the difference, for me it is a secondary laptop.

i'd be intersted in temperature numbers for i5 and i7 when plugged into a thunderbolt display and in clamshell. will either configuration run cool under heavy workload?

i know this is THE 11" BATTERY THREAD but temps would help evaluate performance, i couldn't pretend to understand why you'd run on battery in that scenario.

Light browsing and podcast streaming right now. i7 machine is cool to the touch.

83% after about an hour or so.

I went on battery at 10PM and now is 12AM, using the laptop non stop, Coda 2, Mamp, Safari, Twitter, Mail.

8 hours left of battery after 2 hours of normal use.

i7/8Gb/512GB

i7/8Gb/512GB arrived yesterday and used the rest of the day to set it up the way i like it. Its now just after

730am in the UK and its been on battery for about 35mins. Just been web browsing but over the rest of the

morning i plan to stream local radio while continuing with safari. I will also be accessing my works virtual

desktop via Citrix. Also plan to download a few shows from iTunes. Current battery is 93% with 9:54, will

report back in a few hours.

Spotify seems to be a real battery drain for me which is a shame. At 100% I was getting a predicted 9h30 just browsing safari. I opened up spotify and ran it in the background and my predicted battery goes right down to just over 5 hours. Is this spotify using the power or is it the speakers?
