I've got an i5/4GB/256 with the display set at 75% brightness (LG panel with the Macrumors calibration file). I'm typically getting 9-10 hours on a charge. Right now my battery meter says 53% with 5:04 hrs remaining. I'm very happy with the battery's performance and it seems to run as cool as a cucumber.

I just got my i5/8GB/256 and I'm getting 7-8hours of battery time shown on my menu bar.

This is after a full charge at 100% and a restart on the mac.

anyone has any idea about it?

John

11" or 13"? For an 11" that's about right. For a 13", well, it's just an estimate and you're in the wrong thread :)

As Musika said, it's mostly bull honkey because it's just an estimate based on what you're doing at that time. If you've just powered on, the OS could be indexing or using some process that's eating CPU cycles.

This is an 11"? If yes, wow... if a 13", check my post above :)

12hours 8 minutes in light usage, full brightness, wifi on/off.

Got it resolved. Yeah, I did allow some time for the machine to estimate my usage so that it can have a more accurate measure.

It kind of stabilised after 1 hours or so of usage.

lol....

get your own thread you 13" mofos!

------------------

anyone found battery life and gaming performance benchmarks for 11 or 13" devices using i5 and i7 as a comparison?

I was just doing some brain math and the 11" pushes about 20% less pixels so should outperform the 13" at their respective native resolutions in games. Then looking at the i7 vs i5, the i7 11" should generate the best FPS in any mba configuration (perhaps 20-30% better than the i5 13" @ native res).

Actually in this regard, I am really looking forward to Jazwire's conclusions...

I have an 11" MBA...

Agreed.
We've seen tests of the 13" variants now, so hopefully the 11" tests should come soon. Although in theory there should be very little difference to the 13" models......... or I could just be completely wrong of course! lol ;)

You say that they were plenty of 13 variants test. Do you remember one about the battery of the 13 i5 vs i7?

Would be great for me and perhaps the end of story

I hope other people are reading this because this is the kind of stuff this thread should be made of. Great research!

What were you streaming the movie through? Safari, Chrome, Netflix app? Are you certain you Command-Q'd all the other running processes?

I'm seeing these results, too.

Yes I had a source link but lost it as i was posting! I'll see if I can find it again and come back to you ;)

Did anyone notice the estimated time remaining jump around quite a lot when the MAc was new? Booted my 13" i7 up for the first time, the etimated time at 94% is 5 hours, was 7 hours 3 minutes ago. Just on Mac Rumors site.

Battery is good but no low battery warning

But first, anyone having a problem where there is no battery is low warning? Called apple and was told that they took that out of the OS! Did they? Wow, only three years have went by since I got a new computer. Why would they do that?

MY EXPERIENCE:

My i7 500/8G MBA works great. I was able to get 8-9 hours of battery life and that included encoding a 10 min 1080p video at really high bitrate (took about 40min), cleaning 10GB of photos/videos and other old files, watching hundreds of video clips (part of the cleaning process) and did some work on photoshop for about an hour. The MBA was also connected to an external monitor for about 2-3 hours while the build in screen was turned off.

I was also able to get 10+ hours just doing work on the next charge.

Just got my 11" i3 MBA for 2 days.
I have fully charged when I disconnect the charger the battery remaining show only 05.30 Hours.
Is this normal?

Lol so the while battery hype is out of the window finally lol

FTW - I am in love with my new air :) blazing fast !

Out the window? No.

We're still waiting for people to post their comparative results. I've posted mine, i5 lasts noticeably longer per charge, runs cooler and quieter, and there's no noticeable speed difference in any of the work I've done.

Anyone else?

Exactly the same here, just returned the i7 and very happy with the i5

Interesting as the mail is downloading 15000 messages from 5 different email accounts, its getting warm --> to hot now at the rear end middle but not too HOT (6.5/10) and this thing does NOT seem to have any fan whatsoever lol...as i have never HEARD any fan come out since last 4 days of having it :)

I5 is rocking...! However i am still skeptical about the 8+ hour battery life as i am using it a lot with many ongoing apps all at the same time...and only able to squeeze out i think on/off around 6.5 hours

Started using my 11" i7/8GB/256GB about 3 hours ago on a full charge. Brightness at about 50%, running Chrome with 6 tabs open, Messages, Xcode and the iphone simulator. I've been using Xcode almost continuously, and an app running in the iPhone simulator the whole time. Battery is at 80% now and shows ~9 hours left, and the laptop is cool to the touch with no audible fans (not sure if they are even running). I do not regret getting the i7 at all, the battery life is amazing! :D
