I really do hope I get an A18 this time! If not the apple rep I was speaking with said he will replace the whole machine. If then it is still showing the very annoying yellow hue I am going to start a blog with me taking my mac everywhere and each day posting a different pic ocmparing its screen with different equipment (screens) showing the "yelow"ness until I either sell it or September when I start new work.
What annoys me the most is that every rep (technician) or otherwise said it is impossible to order a specific model. I mean, in order words Apple don't want to implement that as everyone in repair shops will start ordering the A18. Having said that, I did see some happy customers with the A20. Really have no ideea what is going on. I work in engineering and first thing they teach you almost is the 6Sigma process so really cannot see another explanation to this widespread issue other than :
1. Apple Ordered a lot of faulty screens and don't want to make it public - now they need to get rid of them
2. They do not follow 6Sigma quality process in manufacturing
3. The adhesive they use is at fault, case which again leads to poor manufacture techniques ....
It's all a matter of luck in my opinion
I have an A20 which I bought 1 week after the launch and it's just perfect, no IR or yellowish tint.
Maybe one thing that could help with the yellow tint is changing the color profile, I use sRGB something, I don't like the AdobeRBG one.
Out of curiosity, what model numbers are being used on the latest shipments of 13" rMBP's ???
My rMBP 13" A018, previously had a A020 that looked just the same. My first Mac purchase ... unless this is normal, this one is going back too. Manufacture date CCD71000

That is IR, not normal. How many minutes of test did you did?
A020 only really showed this after 10min
A018 showed it after 5-10min
That sucks. People say A18 and A20 are from different manufacturers (one supposed to be Samsung, praised for being non IR prone, the other LG), but yet some people like yourself experience IR on both. My machine is already around 9 months old and so far no issues, did the IR test and did not find any IR at all (mine is an A18)
I got an A020 on my first one that had dead pixels. The replacement I have just received is an A018. I still have the A020 to send back and I've had them side by side and I seriously cannot tell any difference all all, except all the pixels work properly on the new one![]()
I'm on my fifth RMBP 13" after having exchanged it several times to find one with a screen that isn't too badly made and I haven't found any correlation between the display number and the kind of defects I've seen, although so far, only two out of five had decent colour / white point homogeneity, and they were both A020 displays (but there also was a A020 with a varying tint across the screen), only two had decent white point luminance homogeneity, and they both were A018 (but there also was a A018 with a rubbish backlighting), and only one had no bleeding defect, and it was a A018 (but there also was several A018 with bleeding).
Overall the manufacturing tolerances are absolutely dismal (basically, only the fifth one is what I'd begrudgingly consider a not so bad screen), and it's a complete lottery, making a purchase a headache. As a consumer it's a lot easier to make a purchase when you know where you stand, but with those RMBP, you can go from a screen that it totally unfit for any form of even preliminary photo editing to something that's actually quite amazing for a laptop. Apple's non-retina TFT screens are, like most TFT screens, pretty poor, but at least they're comparatively more consistent.
