Just checked my rMBP 13 and she's got the A018 screen, for what it's worth. It's just beautiful -- bright and gorgeous. I have not tested for IR and probably will not bother doing so. I am happy with my machine, which I picked up at the Apple store on April 1st, and am anticipating that I will continue to be pleased with it. Oops, almost forgot to add: manufacturing date is Week 11 (March 2014) and the machine is the 8GB/256 SSD.

My g/f has a late 2013 13" and 4gb/128 and my late 2013 13" 8gb/256 should be shipping shortly. Can't remember which screen she has but it will be interesting to compare and see if there are any differences. Then again I'm not that OCD about them b/c I have no need for correct color profiles/etc as my line of work involved baby sitting felons :p and not working with computers/photos/editing/etc.

It's all a matter of luck in my opinion, I have an A20 which I bought 1 week after the launch and it's just perfect, no IR or yellowish tint. Maybe one thing that could help with the yellow tint is changing the color profile, I use sRGB something, I don't like the AdobeRBG one.

I really do hope I get an A18 this time! If not the apple rep I was speaking with said he will replace the whole machine. If then it is still showing the very annoying yellow hue I am going to start a blog with me taking my mac everywhere and each day posting a different pic ocmparing its screen with different equipment (screens) showing the "yelow"ness until I either sell it or September when I start new work.

What annoys me the most is that every rep (technician) or otherwise said it is impossible to order a specific model. I mean, in order words Apple don't want to implement that as everyone in repair shops will start ordering the A18. Having said that, I did see some happy customers with the A20. Really have no ideea what is going on. I work in engineering and first thing they teach you almost is the 6Sigma process so really cannot see another explanation to this widespread issue other than :

1. Apple Ordered a lot of faulty screens and don't want to make it public - now they need to get rid of them
2. They do not follow 6Sigma quality process in manufacturing
3. The adhesive they use is at fault, case which again leads to poor manufacture techniques ....

I got the feeling A18 are Samsungs.... Would love to confirm that !

I agree.

You know best however this is something you would notice only when comparing with a like for like model.

Maybe one thing that could help with the yellow tint is changing the color profile, I use sRGB something, I don't like the AdobeRBG one.

I know this might sound strange but, at least in my case, it was a combination of poor (and uneven) backlight + colour inaccuracy that gave it the tint. For example I did try to calibrate it but because colour is a combination of factors I would get to a point where the colour was mediocre however changing the brightness by even one level would completely take it down to very bad.

I am now waiting for my mac to be returned from the second servicing. They've now told me that they checked the screen 5 times with different macs after replacing the screen yet again (conversation which I've recorded of course). I really do hope its going to be an A18 this time, or at the very least an A20 which will not start to develop the yellow tint in less than a month.

A014 replaced with A013 on 13" rMBP

My daughters 13" Ivy Bridge rMBP screen (A014) was replaced on warranty with an A013 unit due to purple stain (mura) on screen. New one looks nice, same screen model as my old 2.9/8/768 13" rMBP.

Still wonder who makes what display on 13" rMBP's !!!

Out of curiosity, what model numbers are being used on the latest shipments of 13" rMBP's ???

3 month old 13" rMBP 2.4/8/256. A020 here, it's lovely and "cool" looking. No IR either. Perfect for me.

Love this machine!

Picked up mine from Best Buy yesterday (Late 2013 13" rMBP 8/256GB) June 7, and I got the A020... screen looks absolutely gorgeous no problems at all.

Any news on branding of 13 inch rMBP screens? I wonder if someone with a "good friend" at Apple have been able to find out who makes the A18 and A20 screens (Samsung, LG or others) or if someone had break its 13" rMBP and can share manufacturing just as revealed by IFixit on a 15" rMBP before. :D

how can i check my display model on my late 2013 27" iMac and macbook pro 15" ??
when i type ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6 on the terminal it says to me that license req admin privileges or re-run as root via sudo ... but im in admin mode....

A020 only really showed this after 10min
A018 showed it after 5-10min

That sucks. People say A18 and A20 are from different manufacturers (one supposed to be Samsung, praised for being non IR prone, the other LG), but yet some people like yourself experience IR on both. My machine is already around 9 months old and so far no issues, did the IR test and did not find any IR at all (mine is an A18)

And as some people have mentioned, I'm not convinced these A0XX codes actually distinguish the manufacturer or not ... I was somewhat happy when I received the A018, until I tested it.

Got an 0000A019 Screen as a replacement (MBPr 15") - looks a little bit pink instead of clean white :(

I got an A020 on my first one that had dead pixels. The replacement I have just received is an A018. I still have the A020 to send back and I've had them side by side and I seriously cannot tell any difference all all, except all the pixels work properly on the new one :)

I'm on my fifth RMBP 13" after having exchanged it several times to find one with a screen that isn't too badly made and I haven't found any correlation between the display number and the kind of defects I've seen, although so far, only two out of five had decent colour / white point homogeneity, and they were both A020 displays (but there also was a A020 with a varying tint across the screen), only two had decent white point luminance homogeneity, and they both were A018 (but there also was a A018 with a rubbish backlighting), and only one had no bleeding defect, and it was a A018 (but there also was several A018 with bleeding).

Overall the manufacturing tolerances are absolutely dismal (basically, only the fifth one is what I'd begrudgingly consider a not so bad screen), and it's a complete lottery, making a purchase a headache. As a consumer it's a lot easier to make a purchase when you know where you stand, but with those RMBP, you can go from a screen that it totally unfit for any form of even preliminary photo editing to something that's actually quite amazing for a laptop. Apple's non-retina TFT screens are, like most TFT screens, pretty poor, but at least they're comparatively more consistent.

I've since discovered that my new 13" 2014 i7/16/512 A018 has a pink tint across the first couple of inches on the left side, so it's going back. I've just snagged a 2014 i5/16/1TB from the apple refurb store for practically the same price so I'm taking it as a blessing in disguise :) would benefit from the extra storage more than the few hundred geek bench points.

just picked up a late 2013 13" with 8gb and 256gb.

A018 screen, looks great!

seems thats the preferred panel scanning this thread a bit, but I dunno? looks good enough to me
