I come from a land down-under...
I have an irritating problem with my 2013 MBA 13 (i7/8GB). I've found that sometimes when I sleep by closing the screen (as opposed to via the Apple menu or power button), that it doesn't wake up again. I can only start the machine by powering down and restarting.

This only happens occasionally, but when it does it often leads to data loss of unsaved work.

I've had a look at the system logs, but can't see anything that looks obviously wrong, but there is an awful lot of system messages in there!

I'm going to try to keep track of exactly what is running before each time I close the screen, and see whether the same problem occurs is I sleep via the menu or power button.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

I've had the same problem. It doesn't happen very often, maybe once a fortnight. It can be extremely frustrating if you have documents open etc. I'm new to Mac, so I just always assumed it was something I was doing as a Noob.

I had the same problem.

I contacted AppleCare. Reset the SMC, updated firmware, nothing worked.

Went to the Apple store, they ran one of those tests (that tests everything). Found some sort of issue with the OS. Reinstalled it and it's all better.

Another thing I tried before the reinstall was changing: power settings> "put hard disks to sleep if possible (OFF). That reduced shutdowns significantly (but not completely).

Johngwheeler,

I dunno if you're still seeing the symptoms, but I'd definitely take it to your local Apple store or Apple Authorized Service Provider soon. I've seen 2 MBAs come into my shop in the past couple months with similar symptoms, and in both cases, we replaced the MLBs.

That shouldn't be happening, the screen should come outta sleep right instantly
