This season has been an unexpected treat. After last year I thought it would take the Red Sox another four or five years to become contenders. When they were winning earlier this year it felt as though it was with smoke and mirrors and wouldn't last. Now they have become a solid team. It's too bad it will all end one way or the other in a couple of days.
The collapse of 2011 and last year's terrible record would make any fan superstitious. But did you experience the ignominy of 1986? One strike away in game 6? Bruce Hurst being announced as series MVP in what was supposed to be the final at bat of the series? That one took years to get over.
My team also had a game 6 meltdown and we were so sure of a WS win the champagne was popping in the clubhouse. You had your meltdown but these types of things don't happen twice to the same team in a century or at least two generations. You later went on to win two WS to erase that game 6 as did my team. Things tend to work out that way as terrible things are followed by great things. All the teams have cycles of these things and no team is always winning and no team is always losing. It felt like it for me 56 years winless and your eight decade curse, but things always turn around.
You already were the victim of a stupid rule in the third baseman obstruction and that was one for the ages. You saw here as even NYY fans were pretty shocked at this one. I don't expect a Buckner type thing or similarly bad third baseman obstruction thing for you in the next game or two. Just play the game you have all year with solid pitching and being at home next two games, you definitely have a huge advantage. The only good thing for the Cardinals is that they know your game and are pretty much the same team as you in all aspects with team heroics being spread around and a team working together.
While I want a game 7 I am pretty confident you will win this one 4-2 or something like that behind very solid pitching. The stress is on them and it's hard to hit a team who has good pitchers in their own stadium in the World Series.
