This season has been an unexpected treat. After last year I thought it would take the Red Sox another four or five years to become contenders. When they were winning earlier this year it felt as though it was with smoke and mirrors and wouldn't last. Now they have become a solid team. It's too bad it will all end one way or the other in a couple of days.

The collapse of 2011 and last year's terrible record would make any fan superstitious. But did you experience the ignominy of 1986? One strike away in game 6? Bruce Hurst being announced as series MVP in what was supposed to be the final at bat of the series? That one took years to get over.

My team also had a game 6 meltdown and we were so sure of a WS win the champagne was popping in the clubhouse. You had your meltdown but these types of things don't happen twice to the same team in a century or at least two generations. You later went on to win two WS to erase that game 6 as did my team. Things tend to work out that way as terrible things are followed by great things. All the teams have cycles of these things and no team is always winning and no team is always losing. It felt like it for me 56 years winless and your eight decade curse, but things always turn around.

You already were the victim of a stupid rule in the third baseman obstruction and that was one for the ages. You saw here as even NYY fans were pretty shocked at this one. I don't expect a Buckner type thing or similarly bad third baseman obstruction thing for you in the next game or two. Just play the game you have all year with solid pitching and being at home next two games, you definitely have a huge advantage. The only good thing for the Cardinals is that they know your game and are pretty much the same team as you in all aspects with team heroics being spread around and a team working together.

While I want a game 7 I am pretty confident you will win this one 4-2 or something like that behind very solid pitching. The stress is on them and it's hard to hit a team who has good pitchers in their own stadium in the World Series.

Girlfriend? Do tell and what does it have to do with baseball? Now you have me intrigued! :)

Also, what kind of nice present, and would it be a bribe?

A girlfriend is a person you like that you spend time with, share meals with, sleep with, go on trips, etc. :p It has to do with baseball (and sports) because I get a little...intense when my teams are in the playoffs. I have mellowed about it a lot in the last 10 years, but we Bostonians take this stuff seriously, and sometimes I can be deserving of a smack.

Not sure about the gift yet, that all depends on the Red Sox.

It really has been a treat. I was pretty happy with the offseason the Sox had in terms of dumping Bobby V and signing some non-bastard players. I was content to see them be respectable until our stars in the minors were ready. So yes, it's been the most relaxing, most fun postseason run I've experienced. 2004 shaved 3-5 years off my life, although nothing will ever top it in terms of sheer nirvana.

Unfortunately (fortunately) I was too young in 1986, but I can certainly remember some lowlights up until 2004. The horrible *******s on the 2001 team led by Carl Everett and the 25 guys, 25 cabs entourage. They just laid down in the most embarrassing fashion. Wasting amazing pitching in 2002. Wasting Pedro in his prime year after year. But 2003 was the worst.

My stepfather and I always watched Red Sox games together, and he and I were watching in 2003 when the Red Sox were rolling in ALCS game 7. I can remember it like it was yesterday, he decided to go to sleep since he had work very early, and I was so happy. We hugged and he went to bed. I was still a little bit wary, but not overly so.

He woke up a few hours later because he heard me crying on the floor in the livingroom. That night was the first time I really thought the Red Sox were never going to do it and I was so sick of the abuse - from my own team and from Yankees fans. What a difference 10 years makes. :)

Get the gift and an early congrats.

You are likely going into 9th 5 point lead and Koji? Forget it Cardinals, it's Boston's series.

So going by their track record, they will win 2 more then another 86 years.:p

3 World series championships in 9 years (2004, 2007, 2013) is a feat that few MLB organizations ever accomplish.

Congrats to the Red Sox. The cardinals were a worthy opponent and I was concerned game 6 could have swung their way.

What's awesome is last year they were the worst team - in last place. Today they're world champions.

Fear the beard baby :D

Wow, what a completely unexpected championship!

I'm sure people are going to be pretty sick of hearing about Boston and the Red Sox for quite a while after this. ESPN is close by and the press seem to have a special place for the Red Sox. We do get coverage that is out of proportion.

To fans of other cities: Thanks for being tolerant and gracious :)

Hush. :D

Thank you. I don't expect to see another for long while.

Also hush! The Red Sox have built things to compete for awhile, and once you're in...who knows? ;)

You Yankees fans are a good bunch, if all your brethren were as levelheaded and reasonable, we might never fight again. :)

Now if this was '04 it would not be so cordial. :D

Same with '03. :D
Usually I would be throwing things and swearing like a sailor if the Red Sox won the world series. A few things that are different this time. The Yankees were so far out of it that the sting wasn't as bad. Had the Yankees lost in the ALCS it would be far worse. Boston as a city deserves it and it proves resilience. I do wish the Yankees were able to pull it off in 2001 but they gave it a great ride and I really could not ask for anything more that season. Altho I was mighty pissed when Rivera blew the save.

The curse is long since over and that is not something I can hold over Red Sox fans heads anymore. And believe me that was fun. Granted had you guys lost I would be there with the stick poking the dead carcass

Something I never would have said in '04. The Yankees won a ton and now the Sox have 3 in 10 years. I will let you guys enjoy it as the Yankees will rebuild and be back soon enough. I don't expect a 30 year drought.

Living in CT I have no choice but to deal with it. this is Yankee/Red Sox country where either way 50% of the people will be pissed. So while I would have loved to see the Cardinals pull the upset and send Red Sox nation into turmoil I will graciously offer congratulations and the fear that the Yankees will be back on top soon enough.:D:p;)

Look who is back on the bandwagon.

Look who's jealous his baseball team's been playing golf for the last month. :p

I don't have to be a die hard baseball nut to enjoy my city's teams winning yet another championship.
