So how does a 7 speed manual work? When going from 2-3, you don't apply any horizontal pressure and let the centering springs do their work to guide you into 3rd, when doing 4-5, you push it to the right and up.
Seems like it would be easy to accidentally go from 2-5, since there's no longer a 'center' and I'd imagine in a sports car, the throws are short so it's not like there's a wide gap, making 3rd easy to find.
It'll be a joyous day when GM finally ditches the pushrod motor. 450 HP from over 6 liters is just embarrassing. It'll probably have the same pathetic 7,000 RPM red line as now. That's a truck motor.
Of course, the real joy will be when Chevrolet moves the engine to its proper place behind the driver. I believe that's inevitable while at the same time I'm not holding my breath.![]()
So what's stopping you from accidentally going from 4-7 when you want to go 4-5? Seems like it would be very easy to mis-shift.
Again? I'll pass.Go back to the last page and read my rant.
Why do you give a crap about the displacement? Who cares? The LT1 is physically compact compared to Mercedes 6.2 liter V8.
I care because I like the high revving nature of overhead cam engines and I like efficiency. I couldn't care less about package size, that an LS engine has smaller cylinder heads than an OHC engine. BFD.
And you are correct that there's nothing "wrong" with the engine being in front, especially if you've got a truck engine up there.
HP per liter efficiency. Duh. Getting the most possible power from a given displacement.Efficiency in what way?
Just say something along, " The Corvette is an amazing car, I wouldn't buy one since I like engines that rev higher, but still an amazing car" Give credit where credit is due.
Then there's the lies & con job called the "Volt... Electric Car" that had a gasoline engine hidden under the hood. After enough of that hypocrisy, I swore off GM, sold my CTS-V Coupe & replaced it with a new M-6.
Hate it. Too many lines, not enough curves.
Yep- and I'm sorry, it's not a Stingray without covered headlights. It's just not.
I believe flip up headlights are illegal now hence why they have died off in use. Not to mention how ugly it looks when they are up and if one malfunctioned and didn't flip up and the other did....
I'm personally glad GM stepped away from some Corvette design "traditions". The car still looks like a 'Vette, but it's so much better now.

I don't think it does resemble a Vette anymore. A vette should be timeless the way most think of them. Stepping away from the "traditions" has made it look like the engineering teams are sharing designs
4 gates in the shifter could be tricky. Plus, "R" should really be on it's on gate. I could see accidentally shifting from 7th to Reverse. Ouch.

I saw that too.
I drive a six speed manual, but reverse is over and up left.
I have never seen it down right like that.
Go back to the last page and read my rant. Why do you give a crap about the displacement? Who cares? The LT1 is physically compact compared to Mercedes 6.2 liter V8. I'm sick and tired of people harping on stupid things. And HP/liter is completely stupid..... Only ricers use it to to prove something about their riced out Civic is better than a Corvette. It's like James May in the episode of Top Gear that compared the M3, C63, and RS4 and he took a measuring tape to the cars interior to prove something was better in his RS4 and determined that the RS4's steering wheel is bigger. That is how stupid HP/liter is.
And there is nothing wrong with the engine being front mounted. It helps keep the weight distribution as close to 50/50.
