I agree he won't like it, but if he's expecting a larger paycheck and if the Lions have the cap space why not keep him for another year.

Franchise players in lame duck situations tend to be locker room problems. They tend to play less intensely because an injury hurts their value. Coaches would rather have their players under contract.

Well after being a half yard away from back to back super bowls the Seahawks have lost the DC to the Falcons and now Ken Norton Jr. linebacker coach to Oakland.

Not looking good in the coaching arena for Seattle.

I think that's kind of the price of winning, no?

That's the natural order of the NFL. Losing teams want asst coaches of wining teams.

I think the core players in Seattle will continue to flourish under the system and Carroll will find talented coaches, I have no doubt about that.

Ya well I hope he finds one that will tell him to run the friggin ball from the half yard line.

Nah, they lost the defensive coaches, I don't think their offensive coaches are scoring any points (figuratively). :)

Wow, it seems the Bills have seriously upgraded their offense with the trade with Philly.

I also think Kelly blowing up the team and trading for another Oregon Duck seems like a mistake that may bite him in the end. I wonder if he'll sell the farm to trade up to get Mariotta.

WOW.

Patrick Willis is retiring. At 30, he's no spring chicken but not close to retirement age either. This guy is an amazing condition for an athlete so it's somewhat surprising. He's battled injury last couple of seasons but I figured they were minor and nothing too significant? Major blow to an already vulnerable 49ers team.

Nothing would make me happier than seeing this. Of course, this is coming from a Cowboy fan who despises, loathes, and all around absolute hate for anything related the Giants, Eagles, and that team from Washington D.C. :D

A bit over the top, no? Everyone knows you're supposed to despise, loathe and feel absolute hate for the Patriots, Dolphins and Bills.

I'm surprised as well. He was still playing well despite the lingering toe problem. I personally think the shortness of his career hurts his chance to get into the HOF. The toe must have been worse than I imagined.

I was also sorry to see Frank Gore leave. He's one of my favorite 49ers of all time. But I am happy to see him get one more big payday. He deserves it.

Gore reported to have second thoughts. Since he agreed to the Eagles during the so called open tampering window (Which is a silly thing in its own right and now the NFL is waving its finger at people because they gasp - agreed to contracts). This will result in one of two things, the Eagles will throw money at him, or B, another team even the 9'ers will make a run at him.

I can't remember someone who did as much Willis did in his career. 8 pro years, 7 Pro Bowls and 5x first team all pro. Maybe Ray Lewis? Patrick Willis' accomplishments are HOF-like but 8 years is a bit short? If he played two more years, he would have been a lock.

What a crazy day in the NFL! Eagles and Rams swap Foles and Bradford. Saints trade away Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks. Jake Locker retires. The Lions get Ngata in a trade from the Ravens and the Bronco sign Owen Daniels from the Ravens.

I wanted to see how Bradford would turned out if all the correct pieces were in place but I guess that's not going to happen. At this point, Foles is a bit better, if not equal, to Bradford without the ACL injuries. Going into the draft is going to be simple for the Rams, shore up that offensive line and perhaps a weapon outside and the Rams can finally be competitive. I hope that one outstanding year is no fluke and Foles turns out to be a solid QB.

Not sure about this trade. Jimmy Graham is a very good TE but man, Trading Ungar is gonna hurt the hawks offensive line.

No surprise, Revis to the Jets. I'm still not sure why the Pats passed up on the option.

News of three relatively young players retiring - Jason Worilds, Patrick Willis and Jake Locker. How much of this do you think has to do with the recent brain injury studies and the long term effects of playing football? Players just wanting to play out their current contracts and get out of the game.

Especially since they are pretty thin at CB at the moment and no rumors of them talking to any of the big names left out there.

Revis is home. I died a little every time I saw him in a Patriot uniform. Anyone know if he's bringing a QB back with him?

I guess the offers were extremely similar, its more that he wanted to return to the team that drafted him.

I think the nostalgia factor is nice, but when it comes to Revis it's all about the money. I don't mean he's greedy, he's just super smart business wise. I heard one commentator describe him as a "Hall of Famer on the field and off the field when it comes to contract negotiations".
