Any reviews or suggestions regarding the different video cards options for the 27" models?
Can the RAM be upgraded for the 27"?

Anyone know about this Intel Iris Pro 6200? Is it a decent GPU for the 21.5" iMac? I wonder how the Iris compares to the nVidia GPUs that were typical options in the prior iMac BTOs.

What? Apple downgraded the 1TB fusion drive from 128GB SSD to just 24GB SSD?
Just .... Why?

I really think they are trying to produce a wider range of computers that at the base entry end will satisfy the poorer 3rd world markets (middle class of india, china, etc) and with the upgrades scale to the upper class in the 1st world markets. It is challenging to offer such a wide range I think and still be considered a company focused on quality. I am going to assume they don't really expect people in the 1st world markets to buy many of the entry level models anymore. They will be easier to budget though for schools, govt, and business use etc.

Except most people can barely afford the entry level iMac, much less another $300 pushing the price of a beater used car for crappy innards.

They should be shot for the hard drive alone.... its that little crap that has turned me off of apple so much in the past several years. For those price points, a better hard drive with fusion at the base price give them more than ample margin.... are they trying to discourage sales?

Please provide example of competitor all-in-one with equally good 21" screen that is selling for less. Then you can complain about the price.

How does lack of competition stifle the ability of anyone to think that the price is too much?

Was really looking forward to finally upgrading my Mid-2010 21.5". Except my 5 year old computer has a 7200 rpm hard drive, and this has a 5400 rpm one? Factor in the 12 GB of RAM, and my computer is faster than the base 4K model in 2015? This is absurd.

While I have not fully researched the new iMac, I find some of his statements are compelling. Based on the same quality of displays seem to competitively priced to even some monitors. Some of the lower spec'ed models could be aimed more for institutions rather then regular consumers. Consumers may have to choose higher specs to match more what they are wanting. Will have to look more into this to see if its feasible.

Because some people cannot afford it themselves, does not mean its not competitively priced.

So Skylake but no Usb-c or Thunderbolt 3? I think i'll skip for the next one.I hope for the Macbok pro.

"...the lack of USB-C..."

Is a good thing.

USB-C is not needed and should just die. All it does is add fragmentation and reduce capability. Thunderbolt, Lighting, and legacy USB are the only interfaces needed. The only 'new' thing that is needed is a Thunderbolt compatible Lighting style plug to connect iOS devices directly to Thunderbolt when the new 3D Flash chips take iOS device storage to levels too large for legacy USB to handle effectively. USB-C is just a backwards step that will bring necessary costs and USB should end with 3.0.

Not only that, but 1tb fusion HD is now equiped with measly 24gb of flash storage - 1/5th of what it was a year ago... Wtf..!
Thank you apple for allowing me to save my money, looks I'll be waiting yet another year.
Not spending my hard earned cash on retro design, that current range of iMacs represent.
What a disappointment :(

All i can see, despite Schiller and Ive words,is a certain lack in innovation.Ipad Pro and Microsoft the Surface Book are showing this to me.No round watches.Protuding cameras,Mac Pro left in the cold and no Thunderbolt 3 at all despite the Skylake on the new Imacs.I love Apple but i think they can do more for what they ask in term of prices.I know its just me and i'm wrong but i won't open my wallet for the next Macbook pro without Thunderbolt 3 in it even if Ive and Schiller will start saying that "i" should .Maybe its time for just an Ipad mini 4 or a Surface book, dont know,i'll see.

Point invalid.

Selling round watches is not innovation. It's anachronism.

Apple says

"
Memory
8GB (two 4GB) of 1867MHz DDR3 memory; four SO-DIMM slots, user accessible

Configurable to 16GB or 32GB
"

This really isn't changed from the situation in late 2012. 21 inch: not a chance. 27 inch: go for it.

So is anyone still defending the 5400rpm spin drive on the 21.5" iMac model and no USB-C?

I think it's pretty clear that Apple views their desktop PCs as almost a "hobby" compared to iThings and Macbooks.

Omg; You really have no idea about tech, do you...
Well, until usb-c flash drives become common, there's not a whole lot of point to having a usb-c port on a desktop. It's not as if you plug in other sorts of things into the back of an imac on a frequent basis. The higher current isn't all that interesting, either-- the imac has a proper power cord. Likewise, a the embedded Display Port doesn't add much-- the imac already has two minidisplay ports and thunderbolt 2.

What would be meaningful is thunderbolt 3 and the faster 10 Gb/s version of USB 3.1. Quite honestly, I thought those would be arriving with DDR4 and the rest of Skylake. But nope-- new cpus (at least in the 27 inches) and few of the ancillary benefits.

Well it sure makes Microsoft's choice of not having USB-C on their new Surfaces not as bad. USB-C clearly is not "ready for prime time" in 2015. Maybe next year.

Buy the 27" one then. It's £250 more than the 21", and you already have an iMac to sell on eBay. So you could buy a 27" at half price in effect.

That would solve all your problems.

I'm confused why people are whinging why the components in the lower model are out of date, yet they don't think having a 21.5" screen is?

If you want the best components, buy the model with the up to date screen size!

For some tasks multiple smaller screens is better than a single larger.

Best Desktop? You can build something yourself that's better, upgradable and a third of the price.
