2015 MBA - i5 1.5Ghz/4Gb Mojave - trackpad not "working"

I have an issue with a 2015 MBA i5 1.6Ghz/4Gb running on Mojave - the trackpad does not respond to "touch" inputs - only the physical force click works.
I have done a PRAM/SMC reset (more than once) & still nothing.
I opened it up & had a look & it all looks "normal" - nothing looks out of place at the underside of the trackpad.

One strange thing is when I looked this up online, one of the recommendations was to go into the Library > Preferences & delete 2 plist preferences related to the trackpad - neither one of the plists exist there, and a spotlight search doesnt uncover those plist files anywhere on the MBA...

It's had a fresh install of Mojave, but Im certain it wasnt working before I did a re-install...

Surely the plist files should be there?

In Finder, when you access Go, are you also pressing the Option key to access the Library Folder? I'm on Tahoe and the trackpad plists are there.

PS My 2009 MBP running a patched Catalina version has no click functionality but otherwise works. The batteries aren't swollen so I might just try deleting the plist also.

Edit: never mind. My trackpad appears mechanically stuck.

Hopefully a silly question, but do you have "Tap to click" turned on in the Trackpad section of System Preferences?

Might need a new trackpad. My '15 MBP trackpad failed; totally stopped working. The failed trackpad also prevented keyboard use.

I bought a new trackpad from ifixit and replaced it myself.

If I were to do it again I'd recommend buying a used Macbook pro same model as yours, just the top half of the case which includes trackpad and keyboard and half the aluminum case. You can find 'em on ebay. That way you can get a real Apple part.

The trackpad part I bought from iFixit is almost identical to apple's but the glass surface has a different feel compared to Apple's version.

The keyboard on mine did not fail. Once I replaced the trackpad, keyboard functionality returned.

Thanks for that - pressing the Option key helped bring up the folder I was looking for, however there was only 1 x trackpad plist entry which I deleted, restarted, pram/smc reset, & still trackpad not working...
Might need to order a new one...

Not a silly question, but yes I have enabled "Tap to click" - the mouse cursor does not recognise any touch input from my finger/s & does not move at all when I touch the trackpad...
I can however select things by physically clicking down on the trackpad

It's starting to look like that - there seems to be a few available on ebay cheap enough so I may go down that route...
Lucky for me the keyboard still works no issue - I just connect a wired mouse in order to move the cursor around...
