Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson say hi. Same crime. There's a huge double standard. Hope Solo shouldn't have been allowed to play.
Charges were dropped, however, what isn't disputed is that during one incident she assaulted cop. It can be argued that alone warrants suspension. I wouldn't have lost sleep had she been suspended.
There is no doubt that she has serious issues.
These days, fortunately, there are higher standards! I lived in housing that had state university basketball players in the 80's and some of them were thugs. We had to babysit our crack addicted roommate but he was our school's big star.
When Tark was with similar school in California I saw a news show where it alleged he had a player who slit someone's throat and left them for dead, and another of his stars raped a senior citizen but got masters though it was disputed he could have even qualified for undergrad, but such was NCAA sports in California back then or what were zero standards. It may have been that the NCAA and the press were always after Tark but others blame those two and not the coach but Tark got millions in his lawsuit against the NCAA. In the end there was probably enough blame to go around.
Some say this is typical fare for the neighborhoods Tark's players he saved came from. Some will say he saved these kids while others claim scholarships should not be meant as a platform to make known criminals reform. Tark wanted to be a father figure but woe to any professor or school administrator who dared defy him. Mention his name and the facts around him resemble a Sopranos episode. "Loveable mobster" is the best description I can think of.

I guess my views of not seeing Solo as a monster stems from what I have seen but maybe there should be zero tolerance for bad behavior which should include any crime. But Hope Solo doesn't have articles about her that involve dead bodies in trunks of fancy cars in famous unsolved cases. Still so much gets by in "college" ball that makes Solo look tame by comparison. But for Solo we are still talking about a person that is representing an entire country.
I don't have the answer for Solo or if she deserved suspension or deserves to lose her endorsements, but with only so much love for women's soccer it may be Carli LLoyd who is the big endorsement star in advertising and not Solo anymore.
