I have a 2017 15" that's maxed except with 1TB not 2TB SSD. I'm probably riding this one out for as long as I can unless it fails or there is a compelling upgrade that addresses a new need of mine that may arise.

Currently own a 2016 13" nTB 8/512, which I will be changing out for a 2018 15" base i7/16/512/555X in the next month or two. The nTB has served me well, but I'm looking for just a bit more oomph and some more screen real estate, which is why I'm looking at the 15".

I have a 2016 15" and I don't really have a need to upgrade, it's been a great machine for me and I have a desktop for any significant processing so I'm not too worried about hex core or 32 gig and the 2016 has been plenty powerful for my usage (photography). I'll probably wait for the next major redesign and stay on that cycle but even then there isn't too much that I feel I'm missing with the 2016 it's really been my favorite laptop so it wouldn't surprise me if I kept using it past the next redesign unless there's something really compelling. It is a great update just there isn't really anywhere I find the current machine lacking enough to justify an upgrade for me.

Got one on order, currently have a 2017 2.9GHz. I will spend the two week window putting the machine through it's paces, I'm not feeling overly excited about spending the money, but I was looking for 32gb of RAM when I bought the 2017. I upgraded from a 1TB to 2TB as well. I've just about maxed out my current machine, and if I had gone with 2TB the first time I don't think I would cared about the update.

I have a 2016 nTB 13" 512GB SSD/16GB RAM that has worked flawlessly for me. I haven't had any issues since I got it, including luckily no keyboard problems after 20 months of use. The new machines are tempting, though, and there was a moment I thought I might buy one.

But my needs are modest and with my eGPU setup there's nothing I do now with my 2016 that I think would drastically change with a 2018. I will ride this one out and hopefully get my planned minimum of 4 years of use out of it, maybe updating in 2020.

I’m in the same boat. 2016 13” nTB base model. Very tempting to try 2018 15”.

If the power isn’t needed immediately, I think waiting for the 10nm cpu would be the best bet. I’m sure next year the cpu gains will be marginal but they’ll probably throw in the Vega mobile gpu making all these Radeons look like igpus. It just never ends.

Loved my 2017. But then they answered my dream computer needs and introduced 4 cores on a 13".

Needless to say my 2017 is in the sales forum and I am typing this on my 2018 as we speak. So impressed and satisfied.

I traded my 2017 13" MBP/TB for the 2018 13" MBP/TB. I'm usually on a two-year upgrade cycle, but the processor upgrade was just too tempting. I teach CS courses and shaving off a few seconds during a lecture every time I launch an app is a win. I also assumed that the value of the 2017 model would drop more quickly than usual due to the significant difference between it and the 2018 model.

I have a 2017" 15 which is currently my main machine and I'm on the fence. I have an eGPU with a 1080TI and it actually runs most games I play very well but I could always use more performance. I'm working overseas but in about 8 months I'll have access to my desktop PC but it'll need a hardware update.

I'm debating on:
-getting a 2018 15" as my main machine
-keep my 2017 and upgrade my desktop once I get it out of storage.
-Get a 2018 13" instead, since I probably won't be using my laptop much once I have access to a more powerful machine

Not sure what to do. Maybe I shouldn't do anything.

I’m keeping my 2017. If I do anything I’ll get an eGPU for it. Other than tech lust, there is no reason for me to upgrade.

I’d get more of a rendering boost with the eGPU than I would with 4 more threads. At least that’s what I’m telling myself. :-D

I’m keeping my maxed out 2017 15” till next year. I try to stay a year behind the new hotness, to buy used and avoid paying tax. Plus for web design, I don’t need 32GB. LOL.

I bought my 13” 2016 MBP after waiting patiently for a new form factor with retina screen. Very satisfied for the last 2 years and except for the loud keyboard I would not think about upgrading.

Since Apple is giving my old MBP a 4 year free service warranty on the keyboard AND my son is heading for college, I am thinking about upgrading to a new 13” 2018 model because:
1) upgrade from 8 to 16Gb ram
2) upgrade from 256 to 512Gb SSD (faster SSD is a plus)
3) quieter v3 keyboard (yeah)
4) larger battery (20%)

Hopefully for my use case I will get longer battery life. My son will be glad to move on from his 2011 MBAir 11”. For him it will be a huge upgrade.

PS most responders have 2017 models. In the case of 2016 MBP the CPU upgrade has a bigger impact

I am very tempted, although completely out of sync with my usual thoughts as I very frustrated with the keyboard

I have played with the idea of going back to a 13" now that they are quad core but I think I'll sit this revision out and wait for next years update.

I'm very tempted. The 32GB of RAM is very alluring because I have at least one VM running almost constantly. Even so, 16GB of RAM is not an issue 90% of the time and I can usually manage by closing a couple programs. Occasionally I need to reboot.

I'm also very tempted by the Blackmagic eGPU. I want a 2 screen photography editing setup and running two screens that are doing a lot of image processing is not pretty on just a 2016 MBP alone.

Tempted - I have a maxed out 2016 13" TB, love the form factor but was disappointed that the CPU wasn't quad-core. I develop software and tend to multitask a lot so feel it would make a difference.

Debating between either the i5 or i7 13" models, the base 15" (6 cores intrigue me but will probably hate the size), or perhaps just getting the Blackmagic eGPU (I have the LG 5k display so figure I'd see some improvements there) and holding out.

It would have been much easier in 2011-2015 when they weren't priced so high - you could get a decent config for $1500-2000.

I have a 2017 13” MBP with TB. It’s super tempting, and I would love the much higher processor/RAM specs, but I really can’t justify trading in a computer after only one year, especially with the fact that my 2017 model is plenty fast enough for my needs. The want is real, but so is my budget. Lol

I realized I had shot myself in the foot getting the 2017 nTB model and decided to get the 13" 2018 model. I haven't even gotten a chance to mess with it since it's been at my desk restoring from a Time Machine backup, but I imagine I'll have a much nicer time with it than the previous model.

Pretty happy honestly.
