I have 2016 13TB & 2017 15TB. The 15" have 16GB, max out graphics and upgraded HD. I am tempted on the 2018 because of the keyboard fix and obviously the 32GB option. The CPU bump is nice. I am tempted but I like having 2 computers and will wait a little before upgrading. Totally unnecessary to upgrade now.

bought a like new open box 2017 13 Touch Bar at a steep discount right before the 18s came out, no reason for me to upgrade for what I use. Was using a 2nd gen 12.9 iPad Pro as my portable device with an older non-retina mbp at home connected to a monitor.

I put my 2017 13" 8gb 512gb up for sale just to see if I could get enough money back to justify getting the 2018, and nobody really seems interested so far. I had the keyboard replaced last week and it feels much better, so it looks like I will be hanging on to my 2017.

I've just ordered the 13" 2018 512GB/16GB model to replace my maxed out 2016 15".

I miss having a smaller laptop.

Not sure if I'll sell the 15" or not. So many scammers on eBay, it's such a hassle.

Having tried the new 2018 models, I love the feel of the new keyboard - I’m guessing it’s because of the membrane underneath? It’s quieter than the 2017 one and much more tactile. I also really like the True Tone display.

Quad core is a nice upgrade too, so will I upgrade? Head says no, heart says yes.

I would upgrade for the speakers and ram alone. However I'm a wait-and-see (probably should add this to your poll) because of the throttling and performance issues. I think if all that gets worked out (I know apple let out a patch but I'm waiting to see how third party software optimization affects performance and which processor is really worth getting) and next years upgrade is expected to be incremental, I would upgrade. My issue really is price compared to real world performance.

Decided to stick with the 2018. Running bootcamp through VM gives similar performance as booting into bootcamp in my 2017. Giving my VM 16GB is a huge plus too. Maybe because it’s faster, or maybe because of True Tone, but I don’t mind cranking out work. Before I would get restless on my 2017, not yet on my 2018. Time will tell.

I will, after I sell mine. Let me know if you think this is a good deal:

Specked out late 2017 that comes with;
OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock

G-Drive 4TB USB-C Drive

Mophie Macbook Pro external battery pack

QacQoc USB-C hub

Bring the security of magsafe back with a Leonis Magnetic USB-C charging cable

Belkin USB-C BLACK cable

QGeem USB-C to HDMI cable

and unlike Apple, I will include the extension to the power brick

Everything like new and barely used, for 4500

Sound fair?

MBP 2017 nTB, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

No reason to upgrade unless there is acute need for more performance.

Perfect machine for my needs, will upgrade around 2020

I went from the 2016 MBP 15"/512GB/16GB/2.9 i7 to the 2018 MBP 15"/1TB/32GB/2.9 i9... Noticeable speed increase in daily functions...

I have a fully loaded 2016 15" model (which is as fast as the 2017 model except 10bit video). I definitely won't be upgrading. The Screen still isn't 100% Adobe RGB, which on a PRO laptop is required in 2018. (Come on Apple) True Tone is probably the WORST feature on a pro machine. PRO need color accuracy and can't have the screen changing all the time. TERRIBLE IDEA APPLE! I don't think I'll be upgrading for a long time. The GPU is still VERY similar too. I'm actually surprised 2016-2018 models have basically the same GPU, kinda crazy. I never had a issue with 16GB of RAM, EVER. Unless my workflow of Final Cut and Photoshop changes so drastically, then I'll consider it. For me it's a business tool, not a toy so it has to make sense.

Tempted - I have a maxed out 2016 13" TB, love the form factor but was disappointed that the CPU wasn't quad-core. I develop software and tend to multitask a lot so feel it would make a difference.

Debating between either the i5 or i7 13" models, the base 15" (6 cores intrigue me but will probably hate the size), or perhaps just getting the Blackmagic eGPU (I have the LG 5k display so figure I'd see some improvements there) and holding out.

It would have been much easier in 2011-2015 when they weren't priced so high - you could get a decent config for $1500-2000.

going to two cores to six will be a big difference for what you do. In your case it might be worth it. It all depends how much of the CPU you max out while working.

I had 15” late 2016 configurated model. My case is different, I sold for passing to iMac. Otherwise it was already a good machine and i wouldn’t upgrade to 2018 models.

That’s a good point - I guess with a 2018 I could be running Parallels and give the VM two cores to work with.

That's my thinking, while I don't own a 16 or 17 model, I generally don't think its worthwhile moving up from one generation to the very next, unless there's a specific feature I need or the performance jump. Given where we are on the life cycle of computers, long gone are the days of double digit performance leaps.

Without knowing the configuration of the Mac (ram/storage/cpu), it seems awfully high, especially since people can buy a brand new MBP for a lot cheaper. The extras thrown in rarely have any effect I justifying a higher then norma price.

It's top spec 3.1,16,2tb.

I'm only throwing the extras in if somebody wants a bundle, otherwise I was thinking about listing it for 3500 on ebay. It's pretty much brand new. I think they're ranging from 28-3800. Mine has box, zero signs of use, and... lots of... L... Love?

Good luck,

In speccing out a 2018 15" MBP with high end CPU/GPU/2TB comes in at 4,300 retail, so there's really no way people will be willing to buy a used 2017 machine for 4,500 as you mentioned, regardless of the extras. Using the EDU prices, makes it even more evident, I'm seeing 3,950 for a top of the line 15".

Pretty much band new, is pretty much used and that's the issue I think you may be facing. I'm not trying to be harsh, but quite often, I get sticker shock over the realization that the MBP that I'm selling needs to be priced lower. You may have better luck then I

13" MBP mid 2017 still going strong. Have absolutely no reason to upgrade until 2020 (applecare expires) or longer. I have a gaming machine to play games anyways.
Jeez anyone who sports the DD avatar really does have the world at his fingertips, "Hats off to you, Sir".
I'm still rattling around in my MBPro mid 2012 retina 15' 8/256GB SSD with an additional 256GB USB card, (transend), and it still keeps up with my twin zeon beast .....
Anyway, I'm becoming tempted with these new models so may invest into Macs for another 5+yrs Then I'd defo dump my Bob dog and go for a streamlined DD..... way to go, hey!

Well I did note that I was also considering selling just the Mac, for 35 as a starting list price.

Also, you almost make it seem like what it's included with, should be free. The 4500 ask price isn't just for the mac. If someone out there wants it all, it'd be great, but if not, I'd never ask for that for just the Mac.
