'b' key failed on my 15" 2016 as well. In the shop for a week so far, ETA is end of next week. It appears they are putting the 2017 keyboard in (Perhaps it has a fix for this recurring problem).

Curious - do you do consistent work on it that heats it up? I had a 2017 fail after 6 days. It was indistinguishable from new condition-wise, fans were on full speed most of the 6 days I had it. So I suspect heat, because I use both the GPU and CPU.

You mean the fans can run below full speed? ;)

The 20lbs block of aluminium that keeps the fans off on my 13" nTB makes it anything but portable, and "slim" isn't a word that comes to mind. But, with an external keyboard, external trackpad, external monitor and external cooling, it's not so bad. I'd never use it away from external cooling, though, since the fans sound like they become mechanically unstable when they pass 6KRPM (if the utility I use to check is accurate).

My wife and I are waiting for our Macbook Pro TB 13's to be delivered next week. I didn't realize this keyboard thing was as bad as it was. Reading the threads here is freaking me out.

I'm very hard on keyboards - When I was younger I did 187wpm on Mavis Beacon and can wear out a keyboard doing full speed heavy typing fairly easily. My Macbook Air 11' 2015 lasted and handled my typing with ease - even heavy typing.

After dropping this much $ on a Mac Pro, I really hope that the keyboard isn't an issue. I didn't buy a laptop this expensive to not use its keyboard. :(. Looks like I'm going to prefer external keyboards if I can and definitely get AppleCare+ x2 for both of us.

I too have purchased Chromebooks whose keyboards have held up to years of my heavy typing.

Edit: Just read this: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2017-macbook-pro-13-non-tb-review.2056971/ and proceeded to crap pants. lol. I guess it's a good thing we got the TB with 2 fans :/

We don't have proof of Apple refusing to replace a keyboard under AppleCare+ right? So at least we can be assured 3 years of usage ... But for a machine $2500+ this is kinda sad. Oh well, I guess I'll try to prefer an external keyboard whenever I can.

Did hours of reading on this - looks like it's dust/debris related. One user saying 20 pounds of pressure on the keyboard pushes out the crap under the keys --- others say using a can of air regularly helps.

After AppleCare+ I guess we trade in? Was kinda hoping to keep a near $3k machine more than 3 years.....

Realized that I'm doing the same thing I did with my first iPad. Found Macrumors, spent hours reading, freaked out about all the little imperfections and was unable to enjoy it. Many many people use these laptops for years without problems and the number of people with problems is probably low vs overall. Quite a few posts of people claiming to program/develop on their Macs for 12+ hours a day for years without problems.

I'm a little confused - if I bought a Macbook Pro last week, it's the 2017 model, right? So all the threads with 2017 keyboards applies to my purchase coming next week.

That is correct. Apple models are known by the year the design was first manufactured. Some designs can be manufactured for years. For example, Apple still makes the 2015 15" MacBook Pro with magsafe, USB-A port, SD card slot, etc.

So when you see reference to a 2018 MBP, people are referring to the new MBP expected to be announced at WWDC in June or in the fall.
