I wonder what this Oled strip will accomplish, clearly it will do more than replace the function keys
Yes, I'm sure this latest "innovation" will be far more important and functional than those awful cursor and paging keys, and the numeric keypad offered on competing products. /s

4th quarter?!? I was going to get my daughter a laptop as a graduation present. She was totally cool with waiting until June to see if something was announced at WWDC. I'd really like to see something new before she heads to college this fall.

I'm pretty sure that Apple has a keen appreciation for where Back To School figures in their overall sales. Apple's "Fourth Quarter", by the way, starts July 1 and ends Sept. 30.

Why do you need laptop? Desktop will suit your better for fraction of price

My primary workstation is a Mac Pro (2013 6c/D700 32/1TB) which I'd love to see updated as well -- but given that I'm not always sitting in my office I need some decent power in a mobile package: keeping docking stations at each of two offices makes moving from site-to-site reasonably easy.

I'd rather use Mac(s) for my work because they are simply built beautifully: they're wonderful to use and they last forever. They can run both OS X and Windows natively and they're properly supported by the manufacturer. Apple, however, has minimized the "Pro" when it comes to the "pro" laptops. I recognize my use is atypical but it'd be nice to stick with what I'd like to think is still the gold standard.

For those of us that do actual work on our rMBP (you know: circuit design, thermal transfer simulations, measurement instrument control, perhaps some programming), then you realise that:

Actual work, eh? Get off your high horse. I'm a software developer but would love to see what could be possible with this little display.

That 'OLED display touch bar' sounds very tacky and also very gamer laptop'ish. Not sure if it fits in with the MBP design.

A tablet that weighs almost as much as an rMB!
Fair. Weight is an important factor and Surface is not a feather, but when it comes to personal use mine doesn't include standing with a tablet in hand, mine is always on a desk, table or on my legs. And here the included stand makes a big difference. If we talk about carrying around the gear in a backpacket or bag, Surface & cover weight are barely noticeable

I remember when Lenovo ditched function keys in their popular Carbon laptops for a row of adaptive touch "keys". It was nearly unanimously disliked and they went back to function keys the next year.

Never heard of these Lenovo adaptive keyboards before. Just watched some demos on YouTube... an interesting concept, and even more interesting that Apple *may* introduce something similar. If they do, I suspect (hope? pray?) it will be dramatically better and more useful.

If they're not going to announce new MBPs at next months WWDC keynote, what are they going announce? New versions of iOS and OSX are a given, but what else is there? Updated Mac Pro at long last? New design iMac would be nice. This is already sounding like it's going to be another boring keynote.

Why don't they use that cash pile to invest in new product lines like more pro software. Buy Adobe. Bring back iLife and iWork with pro versions so I don't have to use MS-Office anymore. Turn WWDC into a developer and pro software event.

I thought Apple had missed the boat with this touch screen nonsense. I believe they'll close the gap, and if it happens in 2016 it'll be very late in the year.

Macrumors, the place where people want bulkier hardware and dedicated top graphics in a laptop that can't run engineering programs nor games because of its OS.

Tim @ the event: 'We've heard you guys really liked the useless illuminated Apple logo and was dissapointed we removed it from the 12inch line and now the new rMBP. Fear not! Here you guys have another useless illuminated OLED strip for bragging to your friends about it!!'

Q4? Pretty disappointed, been holding out on an upgrade for some time to replace my Late 2011 pre-retina 15" MBP. Was hoping for WWDC! :(
