APPLE store representative told me SEPTEMBER 14th is when the new MacBooks will be released.

My 2012 rMBP is amazingly powerful, more than I need, but I travel more now and want a lighter machine. The 15 doesn't fit well on a plane. The MBA and MB are gimped. I've had to settle for a surface pro 2.

So for 3 years I've been hoping that Apple makes something that competes with the Surface Pro 2, a 2lb machine which has a better and more usable screen than the MBA and a much better processor than a MB. There's nothing that competes favorably with it in the apple ecosystem.

And did I mention, that's the 3 year old Surface Pro 2. MS has had two more generations since that release. Don't even get me started on how the MBA doesn't even compete favorably with a iPad mini on resolution.

While the colors and resolution far surpass the macbook air, the surface pro high res screens and many other windows based computers have been useless to me due to scaling. Everything's either too tiny to read at all, or if you bring it up to 150%+, so many applications I use are blurry and ugly. Even built in windows apps like device manager have this problem... Windows also cant figure out how to properly accelerate the desktop, and even i7 based machines are glitchy and slow when moving around in basic desktop tasks.

For these reasons alone, I am stuck with macbook air until apple releases a real competition to windows ultra-portables.

Can someone explain why we want USB-C? Does that mean the thing is _powered_ by USB-C, or just that it has a port?

USB-C is a superior USB port. It fits snugly, on both sides of the peripheral chain, and carries power, video, and USB. Especially when compared to some crappy plug format like USB Micro B, which is always falling out of my portable storage devices, USB-C is a miracle.

APPLE store representative told me SEPTEMBER 14th is when the new MacBooks will be released.

A mid september introduction does make sense since the iPhone event by any chances will be hold the first or second week of that month

Not happening. Mid-2017 at the earliest.

This year's refresh will just be thinner, lighter, faster + Skylake. Nothing dramatic.

Drama is saved for 2017 to coincide with MacBook Pro's 11-year anniversary.

Thats just a rumor too.

The rMBP keystrokes are a bit too shallow, but workable. The "Magic" keyboard is like smashing your fingertips against a sheet of glass. It is painful after a bit of time trying to type on it. It's more a torture instrument than a keyboard.
I feel the same. Every time I try to use it I find it really uncomfortable. I am surprised some here seem to prefer it.

Is there a way to figure out where on the hard drive a file I see in a finder window (or spotlight search) is? So far I've been using a terminal window and the unix "find" command.
Hold down "command" and click the proxy icon in the window tool bar. A drop down showing the navigable path (parent folders) to the file is shown. Very very useful.

That 'philosophy' is exactly what we're debating - thin at all costs - and it's relatively new for Apple (last half decade or so).

The 2011 macbook pro's were reasonabily thin and wonderfully easy to service, upgrade the hard drive and ram, etc. They also always included a dedicated video card in the 15" versions. However, as processors have gotten more efficient in the last 5 years, Apple has leveraged that for one thing and one thing only: Thiness. They've used lower clock speeds and reduced the battery size in order to give us a thinner laptop, yes, the geekbench scores and battery life numbers have creeped up, but barely. Meanwhile some people complain of fans that kick in too often and are too loud - another sympton of choking off the thermal ability of the machine - because they wanted it so damn thin.

It’s only become noticeable within the past decade because thinness has been exploited by every tech giant on the planet as a marketing rat race. Some companies will shave down their devices just so they can take the cake and boast about the newest, thinnest piece of useless metal money can buy. I agree with you there. But companies have always been reducing the size of their products. The iMac’s got a lot thinner in the mid 2000’s and no one seemed to bother. In face of this Apple haven't ever truly sacrificed professionalism and usability in the process. As you pointed out, Apple have sustained the standards of their machines with slight improvements here and there until Moore’s law appears around the corner and then bam!… The standard exponentially doubles.

I can’t say anything about thermal issues. My fan will run when handling something as heavy as simulations, but every computer I’ve had has done that. I’ve never noticed an issue there, at least not to a more noticeable degree.

Guys stop complaining. First of all is just a rumor right now. If its real you'll either have to wait til July - September or purchase another computer for another brand. Thats it.

Besides when apple first releases the new macbook pro computer as usual there will be a bottleneck delay in the first months or so with the production and deliveries.

I wanted a new mac too last year. Had an 2009 computer to do Motion Graphics for many years and I've end up purchasing a 2015 macbook pro last year since i couldn't wait anymore. Im happy with it right now. All I can tell is that i know how it feels to want to purchase a newly released computer when you need it or your computer is getting older

Ive read LOTS OF COMMENTARIES telling "please not in Q4 every 2 posts" I Believe there is not such a big wait if you wait that long you can wait another 2 3 months. And theres other people telling "not this keyboard, not that oled strip. Guys im wondering. want the computer to work or just to be a mac fan and have all the aesthetics?

If the computers are going to be announced by mid June they will be released between July and September and i believe its going to be a great upgrade for those who really needs them.

I really wish there was a hand clapping icon in the emojis, because I couldn't agree more. It seems just lately that more people are complaining because Apple haven't released or announce a new device wen they want it to be. The world doesn't work that way, it will be ready when Apple say it is ready, is it frustrating? Sure I'm not saying it's not. And then as you say, there are the comments about the OLED strip, people are against it before they even know that a) it's really happening and b) what Apple are going to do with it. At least give Apple the chance to announce the new MacBook Pros before condemning the technology that they are rumoured to be putting into it.

This may be new, but how is replacing buttons with a display interesting? PCs have had light up buttons above the keyboard for years.

Because you don't even know what apple is going to release. Maybe is nice and interesting. Maybe is Crap. But how can we know it without seeing it?

That sounds like my Dell from ten years ago ;)
I didn't like touch bars back then and probably won't like them now, no matter the execution. The very idea of such gimmicks just doesn't appeal to me.

Those are capacitive buttons, not a touch screen. Big difference.

Why is is that there's always a few here that have to try to shut down counterpoints as "stop complaining", or "if you don't like it, don't buy it" garbage?

We're here to discuss, meaning point out pros and cons on whatever the subject. That is why it's a forum.

If you don't like it, YOU go somewhere else.

You are right and know what you mean melendezest it wasn't my intention to insult anyone.. but tell me. Do you really think apple is going to hear everything we are saying? Hopefully yes. But They have focused the last years in iphone, ipad, ipad pro, Apple Watch. They even forgot about the mac pro line last released in 2013. On the other hand They should have completely upgraded their notebook line late 2013 and the form factor remains the same but here we are still with minor upgrades. I don't think apple wants to sell crap to all of. The Usual Apple time for the products used to be less than a year -9-10 monhts- several years ago now is increasing.

And because we are here to discuss is that im saying that a 2 or 3 months delay is not that much. Hopefully everyone will have a great product. In my case couldn't wait anymore so I've purchased my upgrade last year

Apple plans to introduce a revamped high-end MacBook Pro this year that'll include a thinner and lighter form factor,

Getting really old. It needs better cooling, not another dose of thinner and lighter.

In April, it was reported that the new MacBook Pros would see slimmer designs and new hinges.

Sad.

could adopt Thunderbolt 3 with USB-C. Today's report confirms both rumors. Apple's refreshed MacBook Pros are also expected to sport faster Skylake processors, with the top-of-the-line MacBook Pros also sporting AMD's new 400-series Polaris graphics chips.

These are all good things, as long as the USB-C thing doesn't result in fewer ports. They are already several ports short.

Yea, by a whisker more powerful than macbook pro's made 5 years ago. Meanwhile, some windows laptops are a good 2.-3 times more powerful than your precious $3000 piece of thinness.

It's hardly a "whisker" considering i've owned every Macbook refresh in the last 7-8 years I can tell you each one was a considerable update. There is nothing 3 times more powerful on the market in this size, I don't want a 17" laptop, the 15" Macbook Pro borderlines on too heavy some of the time anyway - and the key fault in what you've mentioned there is "Windows" thanks, but I ditched that 12 years ago and apart from having to deploy it for work and write a few scripts for it I never hope to use it again. There's certainly nothing "precious" about my Macbook Pro but it looks, feels and is made a damn hell of a lot better than whatever you'd like to show me as a competitor - hell this is why so many Windows users buyer Apple laptops to run Windows on...

...you also realise you're in a Mac forum here right? (Although granted there are more people who seem to hate Macs around these days...must be the smartphone overspill)

Alright...ditch functionality for design even further. Aren't current rMBPs already having heat issues?

And please please please don't give us that awful MB keyboard. I just got one of the new external keyboards for my iMac and I already have issues with that. Don't go thinner...people NEED haptic if they write a lot and for long times.

I'm in the market for a new macbook (redesigned Pro or Air, I do prefer the Air form factor) and I would welcome a re-design, if it's within reason and not for the sake of redesigning the s** out of the macbooks.

Oh, and please keep the illuminated Apple logo. It's so iconic. But looking at the MBs, I don't have much hope... :(

Thinner and lighter... I hope not so thin they can't up the storage. I bought my rMBP almost four years ago and it was maxed at 750 GB. The max right now is only 1TB. With 4k content and higher resolution cameras, it's getting harder to use my rMBP for media stuff.

I'm still running a 2011 MBP. It was a IIRC, 250GB 4GB machine. Then it was an 1TB 8GB machine. Then an 1TB SSD 16GB machine. All easy DIY upgrades.

To spec even the low-end MacBook Pro with a 1TB SSD costs a whopping £640 extra, £2,239.00 in total. All the other models are nobbled. Don't care about crazy-thin stuff.

It'd be around £1000 less to spec a Dell with the same, which I could then upgrade myself if I needed.

I just really hate Windows 10 but hell do I wish I could have options in the Mac world. Ubuntu I quite like and if Adobe CC was available for that I'd happily jump the Apple ship.

Does anyone actually use the function keys for anything other than volume? Mission control is surely far easier to use via the trackpad?

i'm not using a trackpad on my desktop, using a mouse. but even if was using a laptop, i use mission control on keyboard instead of trackpad. i prefer to "hold" the mission control, move my mouse over what application i need, then let go of mission control almost in parallel. with a trackpad, you can't move your mouse while the mission control is activating

i use volume + media keys more than 50 times a day.

launchpad key is useless. maybe keyboard backlight is useless too. screen brightness is useful for laptops, but i don't use it everyday.

Let's face it, Apple does not reinvest too often into their Mac Products. For the money they earn, would be fantastic to see these laptops mid summer.... and let's say what everyone here wishes.

Frequent product re-freshes. i.e., at least each product line gets an update 1x a year. maybe 2x.

Is it really such a crazy idea to wish Apple would have a dedicated team to Mac hardware on an ongoing basis? feels like they shift people around so often Macs are an afterthought.

'Thinner' and 'lighter' seems to be the buzzword around Apple nowadays.
.Enough thinner and lighter. All this means is that there will be no room for anything but thunderbolt and usb c (one of each). There is no way that I going to have a whole bunch of adapter cables in my bag.
