My 2012 rMBP is amazingly powerful, more than I need, but I travel more now and want a lighter machine. The 15 doesn't fit well on a plane. The MBA and MB are gimped. I've had to settle for a surface pro 2.
So for 3 years I've been hoping that Apple makes something that competes with the Surface Pro 2, a 2lb machine which has a better and more usable screen than the MBA and a much better processor than a MB. There's nothing that competes favorably with it in the apple ecosystem.
And did I mention, that's the 3 year old Surface Pro 2. MS has had two more generations since that release. Don't even get me started on how the MBA doesn't even compete favorably with a iPad mini on resolution.
Can someone explain why we want USB-C? Does that mean the thing is _powered_ by USB-C, or just that it has a port?
APPLE store representative told me SEPTEMBER 14th is when the new MacBooks will be released.
Not happening. Mid-2017 at the earliest.
This year's refresh will just be thinner, lighter, faster + Skylake. Nothing dramatic.
Drama is saved for 2017 to coincide with MacBook Pro's 11-year anniversary.
I feel the same. Every time I try to use it I find it really uncomfortable. I am surprised some here seem to prefer it.The rMBP keystrokes are a bit too shallow, but workable. The "Magic" keyboard is like smashing your fingertips against a sheet of glass. It is painful after a bit of time trying to type on it. It's more a torture instrument than a keyboard.
Hold down "command" and click the proxy icon in the window tool bar. A drop down showing the navigable path (parent folders) to the file is shown. Very very useful. Is there a way to figure out where on the hard drive a file I see in a finder window (or spotlight search) is? So far I've been using a terminal window and the unix "find" command.
That 'philosophy' is exactly what we're debating - thin at all costs - and it's relatively new for Apple (last half decade or so).
The 2011 macbook pro's were reasonabily thin and wonderfully easy to service, upgrade the hard drive and ram, etc. They also always included a dedicated video card in the 15" versions. However, as processors have gotten more efficient in the last 5 years, Apple has leveraged that for one thing and one thing only: Thiness. They've used lower clock speeds and reduced the battery size in order to give us a thinner laptop, yes, the geekbench scores and battery life numbers have creeped up, but barely. Meanwhile some people complain of fans that kick in too often and are too loud - another sympton of choking off the thermal ability of the machine - because they wanted it so damn thin.
Guys stop complaining. First of all is just a rumor right now. If its real you'll either have to wait til July - September or purchase another computer for another brand. Thats it.
Besides when apple first releases the new computer as usual there will be a bottleneck in the first or so with the production and deliveries.
Guys i wanted a new mac too last year. Had an 2009 computer to do Motion Graphics for many years and I've end up purchasing a 2015 macbook pro last year since i couldn't wait anymore. Im happy with it right now and i know how it feels to have a new computer when you need it.
Ive read LOTS OF COMMENTARIES telling "please not in Q4 every 2 posts" I Believe there is not such a big wait if you wait that long and other people telling "not this keyboard, not that oled strip. Guys you want the computer to work or just to be a mac fan and have all the aesthetics?
If the computers are going to be announced by mid June they will be released between July and September and i believe its going to be a great upgrade for those who really needs them.
This may be new, but how is replacing buttons with a display interesting? PCs have had light up buttons above the keyboard for years.
That sounds like my Dell from ten years ago
I didn't like touch bars back then and probably won't like them now, no matter the execution. The very idea of such gimmicks just doesn't appeal to me.

ew. i do not want to look down on the keyboard to make sure i pressed mission control on the touch bar accurately
Why is is that there's always a few here that have to try to shut down counterpoints as "stop complaining", or "if you don't like it, don't buy it" garbage?
We're here to discuss, meaning point out pros and cons on whatever the subject. That is why it's a forum.
If you don't like it, YOU go somewhere else.
Apple plans to introduce a revamped high-end MacBook Pro this year that'll include a thinner and lighter form factor,
In April, it was reported that the new MacBook Pros would see slimmer designs and new hinges.
could adopt Thunderbolt 3 with USB-C. Today's report confirms both rumors. Apple's refreshed MacBook Pros are also expected to sport faster Skylake processors, with the top-of-the-line MacBook Pros also sporting AMD's new 400-series Polaris graphics chips.
Yea, by a whisker more powerful than macbook pro's made 5 years ago. Meanwhile, some windows laptops are a good 2.-3 times more powerful than your precious $3000 piece of thinness.
A mid september introduction does make sense since the iPhone event by any chances will be hold the first or second week of that month
That is such a odd date....
Does anyone actually use the function keys for anything other than volume? Mission control is surely far easier to use via the trackpad?
.Enough thinner and lighter. All this means is that there will be no room for anything but thunderbolt and usb c (one of each). There is no way that I going to have a whole bunch of adapter cables in my bag.'Thinner' and 'lighter' seems to be the buzzword around Apple nowadays.
