Lenovo X1 Carbon anyone? The worst idea ever to replace the button row with a touch strip. Then again, if they're going to butcher the computer with Macbook 12" crappy keyboard even the touch strip will feel pretty much the same as the rest. Then again, why not get rid of the keyboard completely and replace it with an iPad for fully adjustable keyboard layout? It won't feel any worse than that useless ultrathin keyboard.

I truly hope that rumor has no basis in truth. Otherwise I'm stuck with this rMBP15 for the rest of it's life and then forced to move away from Macs. :(
Cry me a river!!!! I mean you do not even kinow how it will look / function....

Huh?

What are you talking about here?

Yep, the whole mac line needs to be updated constantly as new hardware comes out to remain competitive.
Apple will do that as soon as that new hardware ships in volume. I really don't understand this line of thought, I mean really how do you expect Apple to ship hardware when the components don't exist to offer an upgrade.
I get why apple holds back so they can get people to upgrade for hardware reasons but i think they loose more buyers by not being very up to date. I fear this is the profit/money making arm of apple that can't resist pumping people for cash when apple should really be avoiding that tactic at all costs IMHO it's really damaging their brand.

I think what is damaged here is your thought processes. Apple hasn't held anything back at all. If anything they are a bit pissed off with Intel and the SkyLake delays.

Same, the Macbook keyboard feels terrible. The iPad keyboards are much nicer even. I'd hate to see Macbook Pros going to a terrible keyboard, those machines are so great to type on.

Not sure about how real that OLED stripe thing is, not really an Apple way to do things. Then again, there's no Steve to shut down stupid ideas anymore...

Could that OLED stripe thing be a menu bar meaning they detached the OS X dock station and instead on the screen shown on the OLED making it a swipe thing or a scroll through the menu type of thing like iOS? Just a thought...

This. Apple redisgned the mechanism with improvement in mind. Smaller gaps between keys, less glide, less wobble, individual LED backlighting per key.... All improvements. It takes a while to get used to typing on it, but it also takes a while to get used to ANY new keyboard. Just because you're afraid of change doesn't mean the change is bad.

No, it really is bad. I have been trying to get to like it for about 6 months, but it is so terrible and inaccurate that I have cheerfully gone back to my MBP.

Include an option to be able to secure it to a desk and I'm down. eg kensington lock option from past generations

I don't like the sound of a touch display, either as part of the keyboard or on the actual display. Since the trackpad is made of glass then why can't the Touch ID be placed on there? I hope that's where it will be.

Making the Air an entry level model (which it already is) is rather unusual as it's better speced than the MacBook. I'm not sure why we need a 13 inch MacBook as well, in fact I'm not entirely sure why we need a MacBook in anyway.

Right... Like 5400rpm drives in iMacs, a 2013 spec Mac Pro, 1080p ATV, 16GB iPhones etc etc ..... Apple has not held back anything ? Lol we are in mid 2016 btw.... If you live in the past, might seem okay.

What I am hoping for:

16 GBs of DDR4 RAM Standard, expandable to 32 GBs
Latest Intel Kaby Lake processors
4K or 5K Retina Display
USB C ports, 4 of them, HDMI and all the rest.

Still have no plans to upgrade, my Early 2015 MacBook Pro is serving me well.

8GB will almost certainly be standard on base models. 16GB might be standard on high-end configurations.

Suitable Kaby Lake CPU's won't be available until Q1/Q2 2017 according to the roadmaps I have.

I wouldn't rule out a 4k/5k display. It would make sense to at least better what the current machines have.

I'd assume all USB ports would be type C. Apple doesn't tend to hold back with adopting new standards.

If they're including touch ID, I wonder if they'll be including some kind of password manager in the next OSX?

Love the idea of an OLED strip being the new dock. Whatever Apple does with it, I'm sure it will be great. Apple wouldn't screw up a new UI thing.

I'm simple worried about a config being offered with enough local SSD storage. I need 2 TB please.

Well why not just make it a piece of glass then? It feels exactly like typing on an iPad and at least then it could change the keys per application.

Right now you have the worst of both: a glass pad feel but without the ability to change what it displays.

I'd also hate a glass pad keyboard, fwiw, but at least then I'd understand why they did it. With the butterfly I just don't get it.

They are preparing you...

Oooohhhhhh.... Sounds very interesting especially if they do out the Polaris in there (is this only the name of a nuclear missile or does it come from somewhere else too?).
But an OLED touch bar thingy? Hmmm. Sounds interesting.

I think a good tech line up will be an 9.7" iPad Pro, a Microsoft Surface Pro 5 when its out, a new Apple computer either the Pro or a laptop.
I need a new computer, hmm I may have to plumb for a maxed out new 15" model, although I really like the Mac Pro but it's so much more money and has ancient specs hmmm..

Is this AMD Polaris 400 any good then?

My family is planning on getting my nephew a MBP to take to school. Going to be pretty pissed if we have to settle for the same old design.

THIS article explain a possible idea behind that oled strip

This
Apple plans to introduce a revamped high-end MacBook Pro this year that'll include a thinner and lighter form factor
worries me as they will probably introduce more efficient hardware while limiting the thermal design of the system. Resulting in the system performance NOT so different from the last generation. Current rMBP is thin enough and most of Pro users would be happy with more performance at the cost of thinness.

AMD R9 M400 Series released so far is all rebrand of R9 M300 Series and none of them contain the new Polaris 14nm FinFET design. Speculation is that R9 M495 and R9 M495X would be based on new Polaris but I doubt it would be used in rMBP as it would need far more power than available.

Touch ID would be an excellent addition to the system, it may also add Apple Pay to MacBooks for online payment.

Thunderbolt 3 with USB-C would be an excellent addition but I would hate for MagSafe to go as it has saved my laptop several times in the past.

Please tell me that the Touch Bar won't happen, have a Toshiba laptop with that on and not a fan.

The first page moans were so predictable - I knew "Q4? Thats too long", "why thinner and not bigger battery?", "don't want touch strips!!", "I don't want a different keyboard!" were be the first four complaints.

I think Mac Rumours should just make up stories about devices and watch people go rabid in the comments about whats wrong with it.

Ah just had a thought, this is Apple, and a new thinner design WILL mean reduced features over the current model, so I would guess no MagSafe and no USB 3 ports, perhaps 2 maybe 3 USB C ports, no SD card reader, and a thunderbolt port. Nothing else.
Would be alright apart from all the adapters you will need for USB devices. But I really like MagSafe.

I am just guessing here but when Apple does thinner, history shows it drops features.
I would like to have MagSafe as its saved me countless times, a full size USB 3 port and 2 USB C 3.1 ports, and the latest thunderbolt standard port. That would do me.

I also want a machine capable of easily running a 4K monitor too as these days the eyesight would appreciate a nice size monitor haha.

Touch this touch that, thinner this thinner that... more things to break... I just want a decent macbook with proper keys that doesn't overheat when I work. The sooner the better and with as many ports possible
