This would be in line with an interview from Phil Schiller last year. He was asked quite a bit about why Apple has avoided doing touch-screen laptops. One of the primary reasons was that interacting with a computer is a hands DOWN experience, because reaching up to the screen is not ergonomic or natural. It would also require redesigning the entire OS to be finger friendly, but then it's no longer mouse optimized. This could be the compromise: leave the main laptop screen mouse-based and add a small touch section for special functions.

This would allow easy access to the dock (via touch) even when in fullscreen mode.

Here's Apple, again desperately trying to differentiate for the purpose of maximizing profit, instead of having the best interest of the customer at heart. This has become incredibly annoying.

What's making me laugh are all these negative comments about the OLED strip, we don't even know if it's going to happen for a start. Also we don't know what features Apple are going to use it for, at least wait until Apple have announced/shown off the new Macbook Pro's. IF it does happen Apple will probably do something great with it.

But do Apple even have OLED tech ready? the last i heard was that it wouldn't be ready for the iPhone's until 2017. It sounds interesting don't get me wrong, but I'm a bit sceptical about this rumour.

So we could see them announced st WWDC and shipped a month later in July?
Yes, Ming-Chi Kuo is referring to Apples fiscal 4Q, if you go back and read his other information, when he is discussing things he is always referring to Apple's fiscal calendar, unless he literally specifies "fall" or otherwise.

Apple's fiscal 4Q is June 26th - September 25th, which means an unveiling at WWDC is very likely and shipments would start in late June/Early July likely (Similar to how they unveil the iPhone in fiscal Q4, but sell/ship them in fiscal Q1).

You know that Apple's fourth quarter ends Sept. 30, right?
If this news matches up to Apple's definition of a 4th quarter, that's amazing news for those of us dying to get our hands on the new mbp. That would, however, mean that for this to be accurate, the 13" macbook would have to be launched by the end of next month. If it does, we can probably expect the new MBPs before the end of september. I guess we'll see.

FYI, for people who are interested, This shows last year's 4th quarter results being reported in October 2015, and reports the 4th quarter ended Sept 26th, which back's up what Admiral has said: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2015/10/27Apple-Reports-Record-Fourth-Quarter-Results.html

4th quarter... and still Skylake? ;).
Also, FORGET about that BS oled strip, nobody needs it.

I'm thinking the new MacBook Pros will launch alongside the next version of MacOS because the new hardware technology will require the software to take advantage of it (Touch ID for example). So it's going to be short term frustrating for those of us waiting on a refresh, but definitely worth the wait if they really are bringing these new things to the table.

Yea that makes sense, what also makes sense (at least to me) is that Apple are using the Bill Graham Civic to announce the new Macbook Pro's, if you look back this is the place that they have used to announce new (and sometimes big) products. The iPad Pro 12" was announced there along with the new iPhone 6S and the Apple TV 4, also the Apple 2 was announced there (i believe) many years ago. If Apple are planning to overall their Macbook Pro line and add new features and technology such as the OLED panel then this would be a great place to do it.

I could be wrong i'm just guessing and looking at what Apple have used the Bill Graham Civic building for in the past. WWDC is a software based event but they have announced Macbook's at WWDC in the past. Also with OSX due to be shown off, wouldn't it make more sense for Apple to show off the latest version of OSX with the new Macbook Pro's? that way they could show off the new features such as Touch ID and even the use of the OLED panel (if it is indeed true).

Apple plans to introduce a revamped high-end MacBook Pro this year that'll include a thinner and lighter form factor, Touch ID and a new OLED display touch bar above the keyboard, according to a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The new MacBook Pro would come in 13- and 15-inch variations and arrive in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Kuo calls the new MacBook Pro updates the "most significant upgrade ever undertaken by Apple." The new "thin and light" design will be helped by new metal injection mold-made hinges and the butterfly-mechanism keyboards that debuted in the 12-inch MacBook. There has been speculation Apple would introduce Touch ID to MacBooks and, in the meantime, Apple engineers are working on a way users could unlock their Macs with Touch ID on iPhone.

The 12-inch MacBook will also be joined by a 13-inch MacBook, according to Kuo. The analyst believes that Apple will move forward with all three MacBook lines this year, with the MacBook Pro occupying the high-end slot, the MacBook will replace the Air as the medium-level model and the MacBook Air will serve as an entry-level model with comparatively low prices.

In April, it was reported that the new MacBook Pros would see slimmer designs and new hinges. Additionally, speculation indicated the new MacBook Pros could adopt Thunderbolt 3 with USB-C. Today's report confirms both rumors. Apple's refreshed MacBook Pros are also expected to sport faster Skylake processors, with the top-of-the-line MacBook Pros also sporting AMD's new 400-series Polaris graphics chips.

Actually guys this report confirms nothing and is just another rumor. Besides what would be the point in a 13 inch Mac Book?

I love you for clarifying this. You turned a big letdown into an "ok, that's not so bad."

The keyboard on my new Macbook is WAY better quality than on my 2013 rMBP. The butterfly keyboard is so accurate in its movements it makes the old style keyboard feel loose and mushy..id even describe the old ones as "cheap and crappy" in comparison.

Whether you like the butterfly or old style is another question...

I prefer the butterfly keyboard. Way better imo.

Unpopular opinion, but one I completely agree with. Would never want to go back to an old style keyboard, just feels cheap and nasty after owning the rMB.

I've only had the opportunity to play with the keyboard in the store, but I thought it felt great. Seems like a much needed evolution in keyboard design to support ever-thinner machines.

ERMAGERD...an actual Mac rumor!

Seriously though, Q4 is way to late.

Yep, the whole mac line needs to be updated constantly as new hardware comes out to remain competitive. I get why apple holds back so they can get people to upgrade for hardware reasons but i think they loose more buyers by not being very up to date. I fear this is the profit/money making arm of apple that can't resist pumping people for cash when apple should really be avoiding that tactic at all costs IMHO it's really damaging their brand.

4th quarter? So uh ... Nothing at dub dub then? Back to the waiting for skylake thread.

This is real simple folks, a lot of the new technology, especially GPUs built on 14/16 nm technology has yet to go into mass production. By the way there is no indication of calendar quarter or Apples physical quarter. This could happen sooner than people think.

Tell me more about the Airs...
The Air (no s ...as Apple tought us never to pluralize names ;) ) will NOT recieve any more updates, it is an EOL product.

EDIT:
There you go
Apple might be playing at the long game, however, as the analyst foresees a coming end to meaningful development of the MacBook Air series. Instead of upgrading to high-resolution Retina displays, speedy I/O technology and Force Touch trackpads, 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air upgrades are predicted to stagnate, turning the former thin-and-light flagship into an entry level offering, Kuo says. Much the same happened to the erstwhile polycarbonate MacBook.

From what I've read elsewhere the hangup hasn't been entirely on Apple's side. They've had trouble getting the latest i7 skylake chips from intel in the quantities they need them. There are other machines on the market using these newer chips, but in nowhere near the quantity/time density that apple will need them once they open the floodgates on the new mbps.

Well, this puts a damper on things. 4th quarter? I was hoping Ol Timmy would drop the bomb and say "you can place orders for the new macbook pros this friday" after WWDC
If it is Apples financial fourth quarter it could very well be two weeks after WWDC in the first week of July. That would be pushing it though.
