I doubt most of these posts are real, folks.

Not only do I have contact with 11 of these new machines (2 are mine and I'm on at the moment) I've heard NOTHING from the big Apple Store near me and I have friends working there.

My battery life on my 13" is at least as good as my MacBook Air and no other issues.

BTW, this is the best laptop I've used at any price. It's stunning.

How many are 15 inch?

Brightness of the screen people

I've run tests on the new machine, at 80% brightness the laptop estimates about 5 hours......heck in 30 minutes I lost 15% browsing Macrumors

just dropped it down to 30% brightness and getting an estimate of 9.30 hours in 30 minutes I lost 3%....

this is also great news. 2 reports of great battery life on the 13" model has calmed me down a little. not sure what people are doing to get such poor battery life lol

Someone needs to understand the meaning of "up to X" hours doesn't mean you will always get X hours regardless of what you are doing on your laptop.

Someone needs to understand that this falls far short of Apple's typical promises vs real life usage scenarios of literally every other product they've released.

While I too am not happy about the reports of less than expected battery life, especially for the 13" tbMBP, this post is ridiculous. Apple is not going to recall MBPs because their battery life estimates are overly optimistic. Other PC OEMs report widely inaccurate battery life all the time. It is simply disappointing that Apple may be following the same practices this time. Apple would never risk setting a precedent for recalls based on highly variable and user dependent battery life experiences.

I think everyone needs to just accept that battery life this generation isn't so good. Apple has moved backwards in battery life within a product line before. I expect that eventually processor efficiency will improve enough that, without a redesign, Apple will be able to accurately hit their 10hr estimate. If you really care about battery life (I do), you will just have to keep waiting for the next revision or buy something else.

The only way your 13" is getting the same battery as the air, is if it was a pre haswell model. Otherwise, I call ********. It's a great designed computer, but it suffers battery life due to simple physics. The refresh will most likely include a larger battery as well as more power saving features from Kaby Lake.

Agreed, I have no evidence to suggest such a thing.

That said, I haven't heard anyone I actually know personally getting anything like expected battery life. We're not talking computer illiterates here, these are people who know about workloads and are finding that the 2016 is not doing what they expected.

... I mean, admittedly, the "0 seconds battery life, and won't even power up plugged in" I've been seeing is probably exceptional.

That said... So many compromises were justified by "but that's to get incredible battery life". If they can't deliver on the battery life, the whole thing's sort of pointless.

There will not be a recall. And any implications that there are issues with the actual batteries are flat out wrong. The issues with battery life are 100% due to power consumption being higher than Apple estimated. I returned my 13" TB because it was draining around 7 watts with barely any usage at all. My battery was over 100% health. The 13" NTB that I replaced it with can achieve battery life much closer to the rated 10 hours.

At best there will be a firmware update of some kind to adjust the throttling of the CPU (as an example) to lower the power consumption. If that's not possible I think Apple owes customers an explanation for how they managed to overstate the battery life estimates by such a massive amount.

I got more than 10 hours on local file browsing and 7-10 hours on web browsing. Using heavy Xcode development is around 5 hours.

I have been on my Mac about an hour and 5 minutes now. When I woke the Mac it was at 95% power remaining. I had it off the charger since 2:15pm and it was asleep for all but a half hour while I was at work. right now this is what the time remaining states. This is a 13" Space Gray MBP with Touch Bar and the screen is non 45% brightness and sound is on the lowest setting without being off altogether. 12:05 remaining is pretty good considering it has already been on for an hour and a half already.

I'm skeptical that a recall will fix the battery life issue. What would fix it is putting a larger battery in, which of course can't be done without a total redesign. That would be billions of dollars. I think that what Apple could do is just lower the price (never would even consider as it would dilute the already diluted brand) and upgrade the older MacBook pros with newer internals. They'd never do that either as that would admit that they spent the last four years going backwards.

Once the precision trackpad of microsoft gets stable, if it ever does, I'll be taking my first look at windows computers in a decade. I suspect macs will still be less hassle overall, but the difference may not be worth the huge price premiums. I'm not sure why I keep paying more for less. The money adds up.

Their total R&D budget doesn't support your estimates.

Last night when I got it the estimate was also 3-4 hours. BUT! It only went down 1% every 6-10 Minutes. Which means that I would have gotten the 10 hours of usage. Can it be that the estimation calculation could possibly be buggy?

I am not saying that there might not be a problem, but I can't help but think to myself if it is a software problem? I mean it wouldn't be the first time that an OS drains the battery of a device?

CaptRB I can assure you this post is legit.

Macbook Pro 15" MLH52X/A
2.9Ghz i7-6920HQ
460 GPU
1TB SSD

Nothing over 5 hours. And worse if I use chrome, see the attached pic. (i've been switching to Safari and it does make a difference but I can't stand it)

I don't think Apple has ever done a recall, and I don't see this occurring on this problem. They'd rather sweep it under the rug, lest the computer buying public gets wind of a poor product from apple and the sales crater.

The more I read about the article, the more that the title is clickbait. Apple isn't going to do a recall, and its just another story of the sub-par battery. I'm not defending the battery life, but as I inferred, it would spell doom for a recall. The only time we'd see a recall, is if the laptop posed a safety hazard like the samsung phones.

With an average energy impact of 41 (Chrome), you can't expect more than 5 hours. You need to fix your Chrome issues, then battery life will be better. My Chrome never uses that much. Any plugins gone rogue?

I have good battery life on mine 15' too 9 hours real usage (not heavy rendering use or something like that)
