Contacted hootoo support and was told that it was more than likely a faulty device. So, I reached out to amazon and another one will be delivered tomorrow. Hopefully, it works this time.

Mine was not working at all except for the HooToo light turning on. So, some power was being transferred to it, but when I put in my SD card, it did not read it. I also tried to connect an external hard drive using the USB ports and it was not recognized by the computer.

The external hard drive works with Apple's USB-C to USB dongle.

That's the same behaviour on my 13" TB. Just lights, nothing else. So if I only had this notebook, I would say we are suffering the same problem.

I just happen to have another 13" without the TB. And it gave me different behaviour.

I went into my local Apple Store to test out my misbehaving Hootoo USB C hub. I tried it on both Touch bar 13" and Non-touch bar 13", and find the behaviour to be identical to those on my own 13"s. Ie. The hub worked on the non-touch bar version (but only in 1 orientation) and didn't work at all on the touch bar version. I also tried the Apple USB C to A adapter, and it worked in all ports with all orientations on both machines.

I spoke to one of the Apple genius and he said the circuitry and chips used for USB C interface in the TB and NTB are different, and the Hootoo must be none-compliant in some way so it doesn't work consistently.

Just shows how sensitive and delicate the USB C interface can be... kind of concerning.

I've bought the hootoo dongle for my new macbook pro 2016 TB, and I also have problems with it.
When I use it on left side ports, it doesn't work properly, there is a "bad contact" when I touch it, so I have to find a position in which the hub works.
But if I use it with one of the two right side ports, that works properly. Stange no ?

Another problem, with an Anker USB-c to Ethernet adapter. Some times ethernet turn off, I have to disconnect and reconnect the dongle...
It's a dongle with ethernet and 3 usb port (but I just have my keyboard plugged in it), and I wonder if it's not a matter of power supply...

I have a similar product called dockcase and I am having problem using it in macos catalina.
I get it tot work in windows bootcamp but my usb devices won't get detected in catalina.
Can I assume it is an issue with the os?
