Hi All,

Just an update, my mbp's finally running well (touch wood)

Finally got an appointment at my local apple store, took it in and after waiting an hour for them to defragment & rebuild the hard drive (I'm guessing that's what they did) I was told it was fixed. I made sure I gave it a good test and the problem was still there so they said they'd take it in.

A week later I had a call, they'd replaced the logic board and top case. It's been 2 weeks now and so far so good. I've re-installed the software I had previously and its still running as intended.

Hope you get your solution soon.

An update on my issue. I received a replacement MBP, which I happily used for about 4 weeks until it crashed when switching users and then experienced a kernel panic. The problems occurred within a couple of days of each other and after updating to OS 10.12.4.

This time however there was a different error message:

*** MCA Error Report ***
CPU Machine Check Architecture Error Dump (CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6920HQ CPU @ 2.90GHz, CPUID: 0x506E3)
CATERR detected! No MCA data found.

Searching the new error message, I found several discussions of crashes and kernel panics which affect a much larger number of users of the new generation of MBPs. According to many reports, the problems occur when backing up to external HDDs. Porsche designed LaCiE HDDs (which I'm also using were mentioned several times).

I'm not sure if this is exactly the same problem that I had earlier, since the error message is different. But in any case, it appears that there is a design flaw with the new generation of MBPs that can be triggered by certain external devices. I would not recommend buying a 2016 MBP until Apple sorts this out.

Did you ever find out the cause and fix for this? My 2016 MBP 13" has the same error.
Happens when I log a user out. It crashes and restarts.

After having called Apple and having done the SMC reset, clean install I even had the logic board replaced. Did a clean install after it was replaced and it still happens! A lot of people seem to have this problem with external disks when using time machine or copying files. I don't have that. I do have a LG Ultrafine 4K USB-C monitor connected which I suspect may have something to do with it, but I am not sure.

Unfortunately, there was no fix. My MBP was eventually replaced by Apple under warranty.
