2017 Macbook Pro hardware issues? need AppleCare?

Apple used to produce great computers for it's customers, today Apple is totally self serving with designs that are fundamentally hostile to the customer requiring extended warranties by default due to the ridiculous repair costs. The MBP is now closer to being an appliance than a computer. A disposable purchase that now requires additional purchases for many just to regain basic functionality, solely due to Apple's nickel & diming of it's customers.

Reliability is also clearly compromised, just exactly why didn't Apple fully qualify this new design of keyboard, cost, time or general lack of interest? All rather inexcusable really, yet two years on. When I decided to look at Windows 10 I purchased a cheap 2 in 1 for the grand sum of $315 and even this bargain basement no-name hardware has a vastly superior keyboard and most importantly reliable. In summation AppleCare is now mandatory

We can all only hope Apple changes direction for 2018, equally I have little hope, 2020 MBP probably even worse. Apple's most renowned CEO once said Apple would never produce garbage...

Q-6

My Apple hardware has always lasted longer than my windows hardware, especially as relates to running the latest OS. I’m in the minority that likes the new keyboard but I hate the elephantine trackpad.

Yeah seriously what were they thinking with this. Its like a comedy oversized version.

My guess is they may have been thinking an Apple pencil could be used. So they wanted some usable space. But it has not come to fruition. That's my guess. Otherwise I have no idea why it's so stupid large.

I'm the owner of a 2016 MBP and I actually think the keyboard is the least of the worries even if it's a common failure complaint. The repeating keys sometimes will fix themselves after a while. I've had the repeating key issue happen intermittently for a few keys, but then the problem would go away. This also sometimes happens with my mechanical keyboards. Something bugs out the switch and they repeat for a while and resolve on their own.

Anyway, I don't worry so much about the keyboard as much because in a worst case scenario, I can always use an external keyboard... which actually I do often anyway.
The issue is that a laptop of the Macbooks caliber should not have keyboard issues to where keys will stop working or get stuck. You can buy a $200 Lenovo that has a more reliable keyboard and that is why the issue is massively infuriating for Apple fans.

I can't believe users on this forum are suggesting a 200$ Lenovo and 300$ windows computers have better keyboard than the current MacBook Pro. It shows how inexperienced most users are.

Don’t put words in my mouth I said *more reliable keyboards not outright better

It shows how inexperienced most users are.

Keyboards are a matter of preference and the 2016 and 2017 keyboards do have a high failure rate and a crazy expensive repair cost if out if warranty.. Inexperience has absolutely nothing to do with it....

The keyboard on the Lenovo X1 Carbon's are stellar and I've never heard many complain about them.. I personally don't mind the MacBook Pro shallow keyboards but some do be it the failure rate, the shallow key travel or the clickety-clack sound when typing. Some just don't dig it..

I don’t mind the new keyboard just like I don’t mind the ipad Smart Cover keyboard. They all stink compared to my deafening clicky-clack IBM PC from 1986! I currently use my 2002 iMac wired keyboard on my 2015 iMac.

I think the “keyboard failure” has been WAY over-exaggerated. Unless someone has solid numbers, it seems more like some failures with a lot of hate heaped on.
