You only notice True Tone when you turn it off really, if it’s not something you’ve ever had it’s not something you’ll really miss.
With that being said, unless you really need the screen real estate or you’re doing GPU intensive tasks, there’s very little reason to choose a 2017 15” over a 2018 13”. Performance will be similar with the 13” actually having the better processor of the two. I can’t say whether the keyboard is fixed or not but iFixit did a stress test and this year’s model held up a lot better than last year’s. Only time will tell though.
The 13” will actually feel smoother in day to day tasks too because the iGPU is what handles those animations and the iGPU on the 13” is better than the one in the 15”. Not to mention that unless you actually need a dGPU, it will only be an extra component in your computer heating it up, draining its battery and being susceptible to failure.
The pprtability is a lot better too, you barely feel it in your bag. The 15” is far from being a big laptop but if you can have the same performance on a smaller chassis then you’ll be increasing tge amount of places you can use your computer in.
In my opinion, if you have the chance, bump up the RAM on the 13” and you’ll have a better purchase on your hands than the last years model.
